I mean he has been working on the new FF game + FFXIV ( with a recent new expansion which is even more intense ).
Bit much perhaps to juggle three responsibilites with being on the board too.
I am not too worried about FFXIV really, whether he's on the board or not I think he regardless holds immense respect at the company and he's still the game director.
XIV and XVI will be directly impacted by any major issue that Square Enix encounter. Much like how money was siphoned from XIV to feed XV by the company's own admission. I don't doubt that the staggering losses sustained by the Avengers game resulted in something similar.
Given that the company has been flirting with NFT's, I suspect it's only a matter of time before they make their way into XIV. Much like how there were no plans for a housing demolition system but it ended up being added at a later date regardless.
They also sold some major I.Ps (TombRaider, DeusEx, Thief , Legacy Of Kain) and Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal studios.
They wanted some of that Marvel gravy and made the worst possible game with that super expensive licence .
I forgot that also had another blunder after Marvel disaster with Babylons Fall
good he needs to get far away from this company if he could take XIV and make it it's own thing without the reigns of SE looming overhead i would say go for it. SE is getting ready to basically bankrupt themselves with how they talk/act and the fact XIV accounted for majority of their revenue but won't invest in it.
Money being siphoned into different projects is just normal tho.
Inb4 people get madge because I mention Blizzard and WoW, but Blizzard didn't put all of the money that WoW made back into WoW development.
They put it into other projects too.
It makes sense as a company to take money from your big successful money-maker and invest it elsewhere too.
He probably stepped down because his input wasn't being taken into consideration and was just stressing him out.
My only hope at this point is that FFXIV takes the way of Destiny and they separate to form their own studio. Given their talk of the future direction of the company, I'm betting SE is stupid enough to let this happen.
The more likely scenario is quite simply that having three jobs simultaneously was the stressful bit.
Hopefully he addresses it during the live letter, would clear things up.

According to this post on the ff14 subreddit Yoshida was never a Director at Square Enix Holdings ( the division of SQE OPs linked PDF shopws) as is still on the board for SE Japan

Huh? It's not 'misinformation' to state 'I suspect...'
If they're truly such a no go affair then the simple fact that the company is pushing them to begin with should be a major red flag. Especially with a push for 'story focused' NFT's in particular:

This is what happens when you trust Reddit as the sole source without doing the proper diligence, I suppose.
It's not happening until the big man at the top of the company says it is, then it will. Yoshi P has a boss. That said, they apparently took the recent NFT market crash pretty seriously, so they appear to be shifting away from NFTs a bit. They'll probably still try it, but maybe not at the magnitude they were planning on initially. We'll have to see what they mean by saying that they now plan to put the money they made from their recent IP garage sale back into their franchises. That could mean literally anything.
Edit = removed due to new information having been posted.
Squaresoft and later on Square Enix have had a cycle of Stupid Decisions that Nearly Destroy The Company, followed up by a success that lets them recover and get good enough again to make another stupid mistake.
The OG "Final Fantasy" was so named because they thought it would be the last game they published.
Square's failed attempt at making a movie with The Spirits Within wasted so much money that they had to get married to Enix for the money.
XIV 1.0 bombed so badly that - well, we all know that story already.
Their mishandling of the Marvel IP is just the latest disaster in a long legacy of disasters.
I think if SE forces XIV to flirt with NFTs, it'll be ones outside of the game, not within it. Enough fanboy whales will pay for a limited edition digital Y'shtola painting to justify releasing it on the Square Enix store, not the XIV / Mogstation store.
Nothing has been confirmed other than Yoshi P's displeasure with the idea of hosting them. He can dislike it all he wants, but if the CEO wants NFTs in FF XIV, he will have them and he will have to deal with it. I'm not saying I agree with it, but that's just how the world works.
Aye.
I'm sceptical that they'll never come to FFXIV on the basis that they're currently happy to promote merchandise that costs £1000 and £250 during Live Letters.
Let's not forget, many people were fiercely against microtransactions and loot boxes when they were first proposed but over time they gained a foothold and now it's more likely than not to find them present in a game.
Misinformed, post edited, everyone move along
There's no sign at all of them being added to FFXIV.
Just because something makes it into one game published by a company doesn't mean it'll make it into everything.
A studio/ publisher can have mtx and lootboxes in a game it doesn't mean they'll have it in every game under their umbrella.
I expect Yoshi-P to have the most insight on this and if he says they're not on the way I'll believe him.
There's no need to worry for the sake of worrying when there's nothing really indicating that it'll happen.
Right. Just like they said they'd never add housing demolition. SE has said a lot of stuff and not all of it has been true. If we're not gonna spread misinformation or make stuff up, let's not pretend SE has a perfect track record with their promises. I could 100% see them adding NFTs a couple years from now. Their promises have been broken before, they now mean NOTHING.
Confirmed means nothing when 'confirmed' or 'deconfirmed' things have been proven to be false.

You're welcome :)
Answered your own question.
I'm not worried. I'm just saying that it can happen, and just because Yoshi P doesn't like it, that doesn't mean it's impossible. His word is not gospel, as he has proved time and again. Like I said, nothing has been confirmed one way or another.
Prelude to the end
-sigh-
I sometimes believe you people don't even watch live letters or any kind of official communication from Yoshida...
Unlike the "Go play ultimate" quote that the Forums invented, here's an actual full quote from Yoshida, as well as the source:
"Based on how Final Fantasy XIV is designed, we don't intend on incorporating any sort of NFT element on the game at this point, so if anybody is worried or concerned about it, I can clearly state at this time we do not have any intentions to incorporate that into the game."
He's not saying he has a distaste of this or that... he's saying "No" (twice) and that's it.
i think we should have shaved hrothgar just to see how weird they are
I watch them, but I take everything that is said with a huge grain of salt. Anymore, his word means little. "At this time..." is also open ended. The possibility is there if the CEO wants it to happen, though I do think it is unlikely given their other avenues for revenue, and the recent NFT market crash. As I said, I'm not particularly worried about this, but I do think that some people are letting their trust in Yoshi P cloud their judgement. He does not speak for the company, the shareholders or his boss.
Well, I am not sure then if you'll trust Yoshi posting on the forum but it will have to do. At the 1:14:22 question.
I sometimes believe you people haven't even watched any live letters or any kind of official communications from Yoshida that haven't occured in the past week...
'Not yet'. This states that they do not CURRENTLY have intentions to add it to the game, not that they NEVER will. And no, you can't interpret this as a clear statement that they never will. That would be 'spreading misinformation', as you put it.
He's not saying he has a distaste of this or that... he's saying "Not at the moment" and that's it.
Nah, if you don't remember that clearly happening, do some research. I'm not Wikipedia.
