Battle Pass - Please don't.

In the past Naoki Yoshida has repeatedly stated that he's perfectly fine with players taking extended breaks from FF14, and up until the introduction of the "PvP Series" Battle Pass with patch 6.1 this has been supported by the complete absence of game mechanics designed to induce "fear of missing out". While there has been automated demolition of player-owned plots (houses) that mechanic has "only" demanded players to maintain their subscription and putting in a token effort of logging in every few weeks to avoid losing their in-game property.

Now the developers can't just backpedal on this and claim that they did a lil' fucky wucky, so the solution to this that I propose is to make each Series cumulative.
That means that, when Series 2 releases, 1 stays open for everyone who hasn't finished it already. When Series 3 releases, 1 & 2 stay open to everyone who hasn't finished them already, and so on. This way the game has something that encourages PvP fans to keep playing, which is what I assume is the point of the PvP series, because they'll always be on top of the grind and they will be the first to obtain the series pass cosmetic rewards. But people who want to take occasional longer breaks, or players who join the game at a later point in time, are not punished for not forcing themselves to burn out on FF14 by grinding a gamemode they might not even enjoy all that much, because they don't want to miss out on the series rewards - or worse, for not having been there today when they buy the game in 2 years from now.

I'm assuming that old Crystal Trophy rewards will just move to Wolf Marks. In essence, loosely copying the tomestones for PvE gear - you have your "limited" current tier goodies, which then become the "unlimited" stuff when the next content push arrives.

Fear of missing out isn't real.

Also the series battle pass can literally be completed in a few days of casual play.

How is the different than any of The Feast seasons and it's exclusive rewards?
The Battle Pass thing isn't exactly a new concept and isn't very functionally distinct from other time limited rewards.

Huh? But all items will be purchasable even after the series ends. So there's no fomo there

you dont have to grind it at all you can just chill on frontline dailies and get the reward by the end of the season easily
heres where my alt is from doing just FL roulette every day give or take a few games of CC for wonderous trials

Ah, is that what the author of the topics thought was a battle pass?

It's just a plan for when you loot either marks or emotes/glam's gear rewards.

You've seen a loot plan and you're stressing about it because you've been playing Genshit too much and it requires you to pay? Here, you pay your subscription and you get everything, it's not a F2P.

It's only a few hours a day for a maximum of 1 week, it's not like a battle pass that will ask you to play every day for 30 days and not see the end of it.

The most motivated have their skins in 2 days maximum.


Rank 30 you get the PvP skin, after that if you think PvP is worth it you continue.
Otherwise you stop at Rank 30, if you just wanted the skin to show off with red glowing effects on Ascians armor.

Personally for a rerol, I did like 3 to 5 hours per day over two days, I was rank 15, I just wanted a good skin for a low level character. And of course it happens in the crystal conflict. It goes up 2x as fast if you win, that's all.

Meanwhile me waiting for 6.2 to spend all of this trophy crystal :)

FOMO or fear of missing out is apparently a recognized phobia. Even if you don't wanna belive it so, and there are far more crazy sounding but not insignificant phobias for people to have. Ex: arachibutyrophobia
