Admittedly, I haven't done a whole lot of harvesting lately, so kindly excuse this very latent observation. I thought SE fixed the chances of a successful harvest? If so, why am I still failing to harvest 2-3 times per node @ level 50 with very good gear? This is just plain lame, especially for a level 50 botanist. Some causality here would be nice, as opposed to some lame RNG coding that ignores level and gear.

Are you in gathering fatigue by any chance? Granted, I haven't harvested since a couple of patches have passed us by, but I find it hard to believe that your success rate at 50 would be ~70%.

No fatigue for certain. Haven't done any DoL activities in some time. I even tried modifying my gear setup from perception/str heavy to output and int for offhand and I notice very little to no difference. This could have to do with the fact that I'm Dragonhead looking for crawler cocoons. I really have no idea but it's very annoying, considering my level. Thanks for taking the time to bring this up, though.

Well your explanation of your setup makes it sound as the reason you are not having great success on offhand gathering is because you are not statted correctly. Neither Perception nor Output will affect your harvesting success % since that is controlled by how much Gathering you have on your gear. I recommend trying that if that is mainly what you are going for.

I wear all the gathering I possibly can along with a few other setups and still miss 2-3 times per node, HQ tools and all. If there is a RNG that takes stats into account, it is not functioning correctly as far as I can tell.

follow the guides and you should never fail as long as you lvl and gathering are at the right lvls for the nodes.

Devs have already confirmed that "randomness" is intentional for offhand gathering. You can only influence it slightly with gear stats.
