The nature of an NPC

Why do NPCs seem so static these days?

I want more life out of them!!!

For instance the Black Market NPCs they added to each city...why didn't they just create 1 and have him be hiding out and appearing from city to city. He does a transaction and disappears. At least there's some sense of accomplishment and meaning to finding him and getting an item you couldn't get by any other means.

Why are there no NPCs walking around town? Why are there no NPC houses? They could make for good side quest content.

Why don't NPCs change or appear during different times of days or nights...or after certain quest chains are complete.

Why aren't there dynamic NPCs that move from town to town?

Shop NPCs should have made it so that they carry items that were sold to them and selling prices are based on supply and demand, and faction/city state you in. That way shop NPCs would be unique...instead of these static shops we have now. They could also make it so that certain NPCs when you sell them off a certain set of items that they'll make available a rare item (THE LAST REMNANT did this so well LOVED IT!)

They could also make it so that an NPC treats you differently based on what class/job you in.

I'm just throwing ideas out there. What do you want out of an NPC

they said they bring more life in 2.0

What does that really mean "more life" just curious to know what peoples expect out of an NPC.

I'm sure peeps are getting annoyed with having to see Louisoix over and over again...that's not a good example of the ideal NPC. Especially when it's the same text over and over again.

They be moving more some NPC would walk around town talk,trade and do other stuff most quest npc sadly would just sit there due to the fact that people would get piss if NPC A move to spot X when they use to seeing him in spot Y

I personally would like to see more plant growth, birdies, butterflys, fishies and other sorts around the areas. I think 2.0 will be fine but Areas will be too small and even smaller with chocobos.

not really yoshi-p said that each zone would be pretty big :) each area would have 4 zones or more and look diff and feel more alive :)

I'd like to see the npc's interact with you differently as you become better known like with the fame system in xi. I'd also like them to give you their full spiel the first couple of times you speak to them and then have a TL: DR version for after that. Luisioux in particular is due to have his beard set on fire if he doesn't shorten his speech. yada yada yada just give me my bloody lamp you old fool.

i kind of like the idea of traveling merchants! and not just merchants that disappear/reappear from time to time. i'm talking merchants that actually pack up their wares and ride to each area. maybe if you meet them along the way you can buy something! or protect their caravan from thieves and get a free... something haha

I'd like to hear NPCs talking outloud once in a while.

you kinda have that now. I wish i could shut up the guys anouncing invading forces.

The best part of Xenoblade was definitely trying to hunt down the bastard NPCs who moved around and had 'dynamic, exciting patterns'. It made the game scintillating and fun and added a wonderful level of difficulty to the quest system. The only bad part about it was that you had the ability to teleport around to landmarks with no cost and you could change the in-game time at any time, which honestly made tracking the dynamic, 'alive' NPCs way too easy. Real men played without using fast travel and time change.

This is definitely a feature I'd love to see in 2.0.

I'd like some voice overs personally.

I don't mean voicing entire dialogues, just little things like, when you click on a shop NPC they say stuff like "Welcome to my shop" or "How can I help you today?"

Also I think city guards should be patrolling outside the city, not just standing at the front entrance all the time. Maybe put some low level beastmen near the city too and if the guard encounters one, it attacks it.

Could have monsters attack each other too, like when a wolf comes across a marmot, it kills the marmot, etc.

Wait what? I mean literally hear their voices. Not just in the chat log. You know...you stroll up to one and hear him speak and then as you running away in gets fainter. I'd love that.
