Am I the only one who thinks Dalamud is not an asteroid?
I think it's an egg of some sort. Super mega egg of wave existence...
I think it will merge with the current world...Think Spirits Withiin movie...and cause a renewal.

Well..we do know it's a weapon of some kind.
well Cid says that its a meteor that was built by an ancient race and that its purpose was to hit and reofrm the planet. at least in the Immortal Flames quest he says it.
But you idea is not unrealistic i do believe that can/will happen. Wave Existence made me think Xenogears lol. i wish they would remake Xenogears.
That's no moon...
It's a man-made star. Says it somewhere in the game, I think in one of the newest GC quests.
Well I think it will open the door for new race, and all the changes that are coming.
I honestly think its one of those candy balls you can't chew.
We have already said its Vana'diel, when it collides FFXI will be gone and everyone from FFXI will be forced to FFXIV.
I was with you until you said "Think Spirits Within movie"

Its a ball of super condensed negative aether that has become solid mass. That's what I think at least. I'm more than likely wrong and it's just a moon to a moon. :3 Myself, I don't actually think that when they say "Meteor" they actually mean a physical piece of rock floating in space, but the process of making something from space crash into the planet being a meteor itself. If that makes any sense, but that's all I have to say.
Still, it's kind of hard to believe that this was man made when their technology is like muskets and air filled pods. Looking at the garleans side their technology is so much more advanced, but our axe wielding, fist throwing, thunder casting, pure curing people can stop that. How was it made? What is it made out of? How did they lift it off the ground? How did they make it to space? If it is man made I hope all that is explained eventually.
Actually it is somewhat mentioned that it was built by an ancient civilization that predates the Allagans (or i'm derping and it was the Allagans themselves). There is supposed to be a 'transmitter' on Dalamud and a second 'transmitter' on the land. The eorzean transmitter was apparently destroyed when the Garleans misused it (it was Cid's father no less) and it obliterated an entire city in the process.
Cid suspects that the Garleans are attempting to rebuild a second transmitter and it seems to be working
I don't think it matters, the way SE are with targets atm it'll probably miss.
It was the Allagan Empire, and that's what has been implied. I remember at one pointing reading quest text that had Cid saying something about Dalamud not being the meteor itself, rather a weapon used to literally rip stars from the sky. I can't for the life of me remember what quest this was, though. Something in the Immortal Flames.
Dalamund, from my understanding, is an artificial satellite(said a few times already, I know) though it's original purpose is still, at the moment, unknown. Based on the (possible) fact that there will be multiple new enemy types emerging after Dalamund hits, so it is plausible to say that it may have been used as a prison to contain the more aggressive mobs of the Allagan's era, Furthermore, It is currently being used as ammunition for a transmitter capable of pulling down celestial bodies. So we're screwed... :D
It's spelled DalaMoon.
SPOILERS (don't know how to make the hidden box thingy).
The Allegan civilization built it and put it into orbit. The Allegan civilization was wiped out in the 4th Umbral Era. 1,500 years has passed between the 6th Umbral Era and this 7th Umbral Era. If we go by this and say they all happen at the same space of time, that would place Allegan civilization destruction about 4,500 years ago. This would mean that Dalamud was put into orbit about 4,500-5,500 years ago, sometime during the Allegan's Astral Era.
And from the wiki:
"Cid also mentions that Dalamud is actually a colossal machine created by the Allagans and is not a natural moon. To activate it and cast Meteor, ancient stones known as Allagan runestones are required."
Theirs with you.
I think it's a huge red pimple on a invisible dragon what you guys think?
It's the finger of the giant space buddha statue thingy from Asura Wrath.
Erm.. no haha. Let's not get fanfic mixed up in real lore, please ^^! I took the OP as a serious question and thus gave information that is found within the game.
The scene you're talking about is a disagreement over whether or not it is a good idea to use Dalamud and cast Meteor since the spell is very unreliable and they don't know exactly what will happen. It is fact that it is an Allegan-made colossal structure, "Artificial Moon," that is involved in summoning Meteor.
Convenient that Dalamud will be at its apex near the conclusion of the seventh umbral era. Around the moon mouse festival.
satellite..?
In FF5 there was 2 planets that were spread apart and eventally towards the end of the game they become combined and become 1 planet. Well what I take from the artwork is when the Meteor shares down it will create new mountains and such made outta crystal.
it's sephiroth's galactic surfboard
It probably has something to do with Ultima and Omega.
is going to be the biggest piƱata game ever! >:D and inside it instead of candies! there will be a whole new surprising races!
Dalamud is the smaller of the two moons, though graphically doesn't look anything like a moon.
It's not a moon, it's DEATH STAR! It's not coming to crash on us, it'll stay up there and lazor our asses!
Has something to do with the primals as well. Once you defeat Garuda the power she had from the crystals goes to Dalamud. I'm excited to see how this all plays out ^_^
