What improvements would you like to see with the bard performance mode?

CHORDS, please give us chords, alot of the songs i make have chords, and everytime i have to adjust them to a single melody line to play with

more octaves, yep, i know that we can adjust the songs to play only there, but more could be better tbh

a decent soundfont, the piano sounds soooo bad, the harp sounds more than a piano that the piano itself, the violin better not talking about it...

for musical instruments, i would love a pipe organ, idk how it would be implemented, BUT i need that...
voices, would be cool to be a singer too

Maybe a music sheet function? to write manually all the notes, so it could be played itself (WINK WINK if you know of what im talking about here)

Really just let any class play them since like last time I checked changing into a different job doesn't really change your memory on how to play something, it would also allow players like me who like using certain glams when performing that we just can't do on bard with gear restrictions

The best music system I've seen in a game by far was archage, where you write the notes on a paper, and your character play it, and it was still possible to play 2 notes at the same time (I don't remember if it depending on the instrument).

The only issues were that I needed to have inventory space to carry the music papers, and there was a very short limit on how many notes could be put on these papers, and even if you wrote the music on two pieces of paper, there was a cooldown of a few seconds for that could start the next.

Perhaps with the resolution of these problems and the implementation of this system, we have the resolution for the bard music player. Well-known program and already mentioned in topics around here on the forum.

PS: Has anyone seen me writing that I want old music method deletion? No? So before anyone says they prefer the old one, I never wrote that this one was supposed to be deleted from the game.

I'd love it if we had a Pipa instrument somehow. I don't know how to play the others.

More octaves would be great. At least one more higher and one more lower would be a huge improvement. The current range of only three octaves is too few IMO.

More octaves, or lower/higher variants for existing instruments (mainly the piano)

A single "drum kit" instrument with the different percussions (drums, toms, cymbals, etc.) assigned to keys.

and otherwise, just more instruments : harpsichord, pipe/electronic organs, accordion, etc.

Idk if they added it yet, but for instruments that can support it, playing more than one note at a time (within reason)
A bridge to be added to the violin models. edit: nevermind it looks like they added one, I swear to god they used to not exist..
I second the "any job can play once unlocked" as being a brd isn't mechanically significant for what performance is. (Id be ok fir then to make it more significant if they don't want to do that)
sheet music that you can write that auto-plays at the end of a syncing countdown.
And if they wanna do another instrument collaboration like with fender, give me a branded USB midi keyboard that can hook into the game like a controller. :)

Drum interface not being on the same stupid ass keyboard

I'd like to be able to fully disable particle effects while performing.

Heck I'd like to simply be able to do that, period. It irks me when I'm in first-person perspective and see the particle effects of my mount blocking my view, or the "orbs of sneaking" whizzing in front of my eyes while gathering.

It's... it's just silly in first person view.

I have every setting I can think of turned down for these effects. The bard still shows a rainbow when playing.

Minor. But it irks me.

I'd like a bassoon, church organ, electric bass, synth, voices, a multi-selection instrument (as we have with the guitar) that let's you easily switch between chimes/bells/glockenspiel/xylophone/marimba.

Another thing I would also like to see is to add a menu like the guitar menu we have to all the current instruments so we don't have to switch to a different one each time we wanna play a different type

Another thing i would love, but its a hopeless dream, graphics for each instruments, a real piano (or minipiano) for when we select the piano, a real harp for when we select the harp, ect....there are already the models in the game (housing furniture instruments from haukke manor iirc), that would be great for immersion and RP i suppose

Oh my god, yes. For me, it's the violin and viola that make my stomach turn. I'm not sure where they got their sound samples from, but I think they captured a 5-year-old's practice session with rosin issues.

Holy cheese please this. My Warrior of Light can defeat gods -- repeatedly -- but evidently is incapable of playing a chord on a guitar even if the fate of the world depended on it.

Sure, not all instruments the bards can use can realistically do chords, but some of them sure can.

The one and only time I ever bothered to try to perform one of my own original compositions in game, I couldn't do it -- I had a midi keyboard hooked up, and muscle memory betrayed me so hard, because it was like a coin-toss as to which note of a chord would get played.

i just saw some videos on youtube about it, how can a free-to-play mmo have better performance mode than ff14...

I only need five things:
1. Better quality midi samples than those we currently have in game. Even free online sequencers out there have them. Come on, squenix!
2. Ability to play more than one note at a time at high bpm. Well, you can do that somehow by pressing 2-3 keys almost simultaneously with a really short delay, but simulating a guitar strumming of a fast-paced song, for example, makes a cacophony (or should I say an ear torture?).
3.More octaves. Even Mordhau, an indie croudfunded medieval slasher game about swordfighting with daily online peaking at 1.5k players is giving players five octaves for their lutes and shawms instead of our pathetic three. Should I say that lute also sounds much better there?
4. Proper drum set as a single standalone instrument instead of a snare, bass and cymbals being divided into 3 separate ones. Just look how BDO implemented it. Real life drum music sheets never contain 37 variations of a bass drum. It's always just a bass drum mixed with other drums and cymbals. Period. Leave 37 buttons for bongos, but give us a godsforsaken drum kit already with bass, snare, toms, open and closed hi-hat, china, crash, ride, splash, cowbell and so on!
5. Bass guitar with different modes, like the strat we already have in game. And with the slap mode of course. Again, even absolutely free to use online sequencers have it. Make it another Fender collab, I don't care. Double bass simply doesn't suffice.

Without all of that I already lost interest in performing and writing music for FFXIV. It just takes too much effort to make something that sounds good. Looking how other games managed performance much, much better also demotivates and makes me leaning into playing those projects instead of renewing my subscription. It's just one less reason to keep on playing for months between major patches without devs actively making content for us in that period. We could've generated our own content instead, if we were less limited.

1. For sure, being able to play notes simultaneously.
2. Get rid of the slight delay between button press and note. I don't know if this is a ping problem.
3. Being able to move my character's head in GPose while holding an instrument. Last I tried, I couldn't move her head to face the camera while she held a guitar.

This is something that's almost definitely never gonna happen and is maybe even far enough to the left to be its own separate feature... But I wanna be able to just have my character play the instrumental tune of any orchestrion roll I've collected
Closest I could see actually happening would be like, a play along note sheet or something, but I have zero interest in learning how to play my own music and so don't actually bother with this feature at all as it stands currently.

So. Probably not gonna happen, but would be neat.

Even though we don't have chords...you can simulate chords easily enough. It just plays each note of the chord in rapid order. It's a good middle ground until full on chords can be used. I think the thing I'd like most is just one more Octave. I have a few songs that go beyond the three we are able to play so it just has dead space on the notes that should be played.

I play violin in game.
Violin sounds like an abomination.
I cry and go back to basicass harp.

Not a musician, but chords for sure. NKRO gaming keyboards are common these days, and even DualShock/DualSense registers multiple buttons at once. And no, arpeggiating doesn't cut it, it's easy to go too fast and press two buttons at the same time.

Native MIDI input support would be nice.

A Casio keyboard from the 1980s could synthesize instruments better

For my friends on console, Key change presets. Right now we have the D-Pad and Face buttons mapped to C Major, with Shoulder buttons to play flats and sharps, and triggers to switch octave. That works great, unless you want to play anything in any other key signature. Being able to quickly transpose every button up or down to a different key, and switch from Major to Minor would be awesome, but would require at minimum one more octave added, preferably two with a range from A2 to A7 instead of the current C3 to C6.

With regard to the instrument voices, Piano definitely needs a rework. Right now it sounds like it has a muffler constantly applied or something. The notes fade after a single second no matter how long you hold the button down. That's not how pianos work. I can go over to my own IRL piano and press a key with the lightest touch, and it will ring out for at least 8 seconds before it has faded out completely. When playing at a regular volume, it can take anywhere up to 20 seconds for a note to fade.
I saw someone mention the putting the mode switch from the electric guitar onto other instruments. They can keep the old piano sound and rename it Muffler, then add Regular, Sustain and Una Corda modes.

I'd love a simple MIDI editing sub-program to write my own songs....

And chords to say the least....

Short of that....I would point to the Star Wars: Galaxies Musician system.... there were a selection of about 8-9 songs, as well as a half dozen to a dozen "flourishes" or "fills".... with a simple macro, you could write your own unique performance....

Let us program and automate the songs with ingame tools.

It is way too much effort to learn to play properly. Time which is better spent in learning a real instrument.
