Warrior tank (Button/Ability Overload)

Hello,

I would like to say before I get into the heart of things I have not made it past the first expansion (Im only setting at lvl 54 or something like that).
With that said I was looking forward at some of the warrior set up and rotation guides; especially after making the transition from maurder to Warrior. I gotta say the swap is a bit overwhelming from someone new to the game.

I think I noticed where the abilities change/replace the previous ones though I could be wrong. I have moved onto leveling two more jobs to level 50 as well. My question though is how much more complicated is the ride going to get as far as setting up and prioritizing my bars and actions. I normally in a previous game used most of my 24 buttons with a max being 28; them being a mix of mmo mouse and keyboard. Sadly it feels like I still don’t feel like I have enough things mapped for what is to come.

So my question is this roughly how many keybinds and bars does other people use to feel comfortable playing through endgame content. Also, should I start practicing adding in alternative keys now lol to boost things up a bit to 30 or mid 30s?

I feel Warrior is the lightest on the number of abilities compared to the other tanks, with about 32 buttons, not including extras like potions.

With an MMO mouse with 12 extra buttons, I'm able to map almost all of my abilities when using keys 1-6, Q, E, and Shift as a modifier.

One thing I like to do when learning a new job is put all my abilities on my hotbar right away, since the game does show you everything you will learn up to level 90. It gets me used to what I'll be pressing and I can adjust things later.

What other jobs are you playing that you find simpler than WAR ? I haven't played many others yet but I'm honestly shocked by this post and genuinely curious. It was my impression that WAR was THE easiest job inthe whole game, overwhelmingly so. And on top of that the job gets adjustments to be even simpler all the time, as recently as the last major patch.

If you're just new to the game, I'd say keep at it. Getting through ARR these days prepares you very little for what the job is still levelling into, so take your time with that as you're still very much in that early game levelling space.

In fact now that I think about it, early WAR does at least have a basic rotation / burst phase that you have to actually think about. Just know that's temporary, your Berserker buff will eventually upgrade into soemthing that ONLY DOES MAX DAMAGE with no real way to screw it up. Not any more, anyway....

Honestly, if you are using an MMO mouse, with shift, ctrl and or alt, you should be able to manage 36-48 keybinds quite comfortably really, and that's not including using the keyboard for easy to reach buttons. Personally only use ctrl and shift as modifiers, and can fit every action for every job on hotbars without issue. Might be that you may need to organise your hotbars a bit better.

Some actions upgrade into different actions, like Berserk into Inner Release, Inner Beast into Fell Cleave and Steel Cyclone into Decimate.

Its also probably the most well designed tank in EW atm. Everything in its tool kit just goes well together* (after the IR changes in 6.1). My only gripe is that primal rend doesn't overwrite IR, similar to how you have skills that can't be placed on the hotbar. Just a personal issue tbh but I hate the design of gcds that are only active after it's proc'd, meaning its a dead button until then. It just reminds me of shield swipe and to a lesser extent og DRK low blow.

All one min gcds should be tied to the skill that proc's it to reduce button bloat, ex, Confiteor, Contiuation, etc.

They need to change Overpower back to a cone but yeah I'll agree Warrior is the best tank we have and all classes should be more like it!

Yeah, it is definitely looking like I am going to have to work on learning to use shift. I think what I am running into is being stuck in my old gameplay setup that I used playing a tank on Wow. I think my reasoning was sound for doing so; but I am also definitely throwing myself off at times.

Interestingly enough I have found ninja, and summoner to be similar in setup, or at least my setup. The big difference to me at least aside from the obvious has been Warrior has a builder and spender with Inner beast and steel cyclone; where Ninja and Summoner has a cd on their big abilities.

That is really awesome news, aside from the builder with beast gauge, keeping Infuriate and Storm's eye up was a bit of a pain.

I appreciate it and I look forward to that damage increase and less harsh uptimes.

It's really not. Just ludicrously overpowered in dungeon pulls and the most unchallenging burst window in the game excluding healers. It does have a place in the game as the simple tank job, but it's like calling the white bread the best cooked part of the meal in a 5-star restaurant. Even though the amount of butter is an overkill, if not borderline nauseating.

I'm not sat in front of my screen at the moment, but I have 4 bars in general and WAR occupies three of them and doesn't even take up every button. It's actually my most relaxing job by far in terms of button bloat*. I love playing it. You have something like 25 buttons iirc. To fit these on my bar I use 1-6, a combination of shift/ctrl modifiers, and then I also use R, T, Y, F, G, H, C, and V. I'm dumb and it works out for me, so I'm sure you can do it!

*EDIT: I forgot SMN exists, never mind. SMN has like my lightest tray of all jobs that I actively play. Wow that job really simplifies. OP, if you want a light button bloat job play SMN, unironically It's like 15 buttons and they basically stay the same from start to finish.
