Gathering?
Guildleves used to give idiotic amounts of gil when the game first came out. It's most likely people returning from around that time.
Leves?
In the early days of XIV there wasn't much else to do other than spam leves and behest so people have had a year and a half to amass these fortunes.
Not particularly difficult I would imagine. The game has been out for a while now. A lot of crafters made big big gil in the materia boom. Even farming mats can make you a mill in a day if you're lucky. The only thing it takes to make a lot of gil is commitment to making lots of gil. Cba to myself, I just make gil as and when I need some.
I don't think you will be super rich off gathering. Nowadays, the only way you will get that kind of gil (without playing all day everyday, and, if you are, I feel bad for you) is selling double/triple melded gear to people who made 100s of millions back in the day.
some people are bot fishing and selling the fish to npcs for 500k a day or so
soo....
it's quite easy to make gil very quickly in this game. i've made millions a day crafting, millions gathering, farming, running dungeons, and many other methods. it's not a difficult thing to make well over a million gil a day and if you look at it that's only 3 months worth of time. this game is getting close to being out for 2 years now. if you have been playing since release and don't have over 100 mil you have either been blowing an insane amount of gil or hardly playing at all.
Equipment, melded or otherwise is not where the moneys at. A tip for you all, which kinda sucks, but what are you going to do. Farm, make, the mats that crafters can use from lvl 30-50. Why? I am not going to say, but figure it out. Raptor skin, raptor leather. I have made 10s of millions on those 2 items
i agree with you here actually. you make more gil on a daily basis selling materials than you will gear(especially double/triple melded gear). yes, when you sell multi melded gear you will make a nice profit if it sells, but it does not sell daily and will likely sit in your retainer for a long time before it ever sells. that takes up a slot you could have thrown a stack of materials on and sold some off your retainer each day.
In the old days 15-20k gil from a single leve (30-50k from a fraction leve) and 5-10k gil from a coffer during the leve was a common thing.
I'm sitting around 50mil right now and have spent at least 50mil on stuff as well.
The materia boom was a big plus, mainly because you can spend 5k on a Dated Electrum Ring and turn it often into a Materia that sells for over 200k, sometimes 500k+. There are 11 materia conversion slots in your inventory. When i buy a set to bond and convert i spend usually about 150k and it turns into over 1mil worth of gil in Materia. Because the dated stuff is still around, it's really easy to spirit bond lv 50 gear, even if you're at lv 30.
For crafting leves, you still get usually an average of 10k worth of free stuff per leve and meanwhile you are spiritbonding. 3-5 hours of crafting leves will be worth 1-1.5 mil gil pretty easy.
For gathering, it's even better. Raw materials like Iron, Cobalt and Electrum (not to mention the new stuff) drop like water from Gathering points and sell constantly in the markets. 3-5 hours effort is worth 1mil in materials sold plus another 1mil in materia profit from spiritbonding.
Given the games been out as long as it has and with all the various other price booms created from patches along the way, it is very possible. Although i notice there's also a great number of penniless people around too.
you can get 100,000 gil reward with just one fraction leve.
I'm after mining achieves, started not long ago, and selling alot of my ores to linkshell members at a discount and I'm sat on 8mil now, if I was just selling on the wards, I could make alot more.
It's easy really..I just literally sell everything I get >.> All those random drops, gathering stuff, stuff I craft and get from leves..
