7.0 Dragon companion for Dragoon

Inspired by FF11's Dragoon.

And not a clunky summon like Queen Automata. Something akin to 6.0 Summoner's summons, but you call for your Dragon on occasion between combos to deal it's own special brand of draconian damage and teams up with us with a few occasional powerful moves, like upgrading Dragonfire Dive to use duo dive attack.

And also, our dragon, like in FF11, is raised by us from birth and it progressively grows as we level up.

Thoughts?

Please no! I don't want DRG to be a pet class. It is fine the way it is.

The only way I'd be okay with that if it is purely aesthetic and has no impact on gameplay whatsoever. All damage should still be dealt by the DRG, not the pet, no animations and attacks should be pet-dependent, etc.

That does already happen with a lot of the attack animations although it appears blue.

I remember how disappointed I was when I saw XIV's version of DRG and it didn't have a dragon. haha

But in all seriousness, I don't think any job improves by getting the pet treatment. At least not in XIV. It's sad, but here we are.

That's why I said in my first post that I wanted the Dragon the Dragoon could summon to be just another attack animation Dragoon controls by summoning the dragon to do a quick attack, like flying over a group of enemies and blasting them with its fire breath before leaving and only quickly showing up to do cool combo single skill button powerful attacks.

To myself, lore wise, it would make sense for a Dragoon to eventually obtain a Dragon companion in this game now after everything that happened in Heavensward, plus the progress the player character goes to with mastering their inner dragon as a Dragoon all the way up to level 90.

So the most logical step, at least in my opinion l, to progress Dragoon further as a job is to give them a Dragon companion that they team up on occasion through certain attack combos and special big heat attack skills.

That way Dragoon doesn't eventually get stripped of its identity so it feels "new and fresh" to the devs and playerbase. But instead, gets to keep what it already is and just when then have the Dragon the Dragoon could build upon with.

I advise going to play XI then.

Im a Supporter of Dragoon getting a Pet Dragon again from FFXI.
BUUUT....if that happens, I think Dragoon as a Whole would get weaker to compensate & Balance it.

And that wouldn't be good for the Job.

But...maybe in 7.0 new moves could take place and the Dragoon Gauge can update to factor the little guy in and get some move.

I guess you’re willing to compensate for pet damage by sacrificing 40% of your damage then? Because nerfs would be guaranteed.

Beyond the balancing nightmare that pets bring, there’s also lore to consider.

Remember in ARR and early HW the dragons are considered the enemy. Sure by 7.0 they’re our friends, but what about new players who aren’t that far yet? Wouldn’t make sense for adventurers to be running around with dragon friends. Same reason they probably won’t add a loporit race, because then when new players get to EW and everyone’s like “What is this strange bunny creature?!” While the player and all his friends are loporits it would raise some questions.

This has already happened, however. Minions, outfits, heck in Heavensward playing as an Au Ra was lore-breaking (I dunno if they eventually went back to change all the quests involved with Yugiri hiding her identity or not). Getting an ability later down the line wouldn't be an less jarring than any of this.

I recommend the Wind-Up Dragonet from the Moogle Tribe Quests. It would serve as the closest thing to a XI dragon pet in game right now, on the field. In dungeons, I personally like how Dragoon currently plays and would prefer it continuing to rely on its own power.

Could make it so dragon replaces your chocobo and can't use your chocobo for combat when it's out.

She wasn’t hiding her identity because of her race, she was hiding it to avoid garlean detection (and the obvious real world reason that they hadn’t revealed au ra yet). They have since retconned au ra into all sorts of places in eorzea, same with hrothgar and viera as if they were there all along.

As for mounts and minions, they gave up their lore relevance when they made an elephant fly.

There are admittedly lots of lore problems with jobs already, such as BLM and WHM being restricted arts that we were exclusively allowed to practice… but then everyone is doing it. But that’s more of an inconsistency. Dragoon having a dragon ally would fall into more spoiler territory.
