Hi folks. Been off the game for a while after a massive bit of burn out. I'm finding it hard to go back. I'm just curious... What keeps you playing the game? Maybe I can find a new reason to enjoy. Thanks!

Although I may be on a similar note what keeps me engaged are these following reasons:
- PvP: Despite being broken, can’t deny its very active & I endorse the simplicity of PvP job general abilities which makes it convenient for the worthwhile (I do it daily out of bored & Frontlines online; not interested for Crystal match).
- Player house/apartment visits: I love exploring & seeing how unique are the decorations/layouts that players created for their home. I also love spending time in my apartment & delight on how comforting & pleasing it is to me as I was never interested for housing property anyways.
- RP Community events: I love attending these type of events! Coffee nights, Bar nights, Casino. It’s highly intriguing & amazing how immersive it feels like.
All in all I play at most 4 or less hours away as I am utterly satisfied in completing the storyline, geared my jobs & truly no longer concern to make the most Gil or grind on through collections (helps me to pace myself between the game & irl sorts).
Waiting to see what the next big patch may reveal & bring!
I enjoy it still, simple as that. I do pretty much every type of content the game offers, and I haven't gotten sick of it. Probably helps that I play other games too. I don't limit myself to just this one. New game comes out, I play that till I'm done, except raid nights or FC stuff, then when I'm done with w/e is new, back to XIV.
Lalafells duh...
Mainly story, yeah, typical.
Also, pvp and some silly farms here and there.
Right now just the current Ultimate. And I'm staying around to see the graphics upgrade.
Currently, PVP. I am busy grinding out the HQ texture job sets along with the seasonal armor for my main and alts. Otherwise there are very little worthwhile grinds to pursue at the moment.
RP. The rest of the time, I play other games
The people I raid with.
Prog is always a blast, irrespective of how critical I can be towards some of the gameplay direction, the people make it fun.
I.. don't know. I don't have any friends in-game, I don't play EX trials or savage raids...
So, I guess I'm just invested in the story.
I'm invested in the story mostly. During the droughts between patches I either play other games or participate in my other hobbies. I've exhausted all the current available side content aside from ARR Tribes (and the Vanu Vanu, but they're almost maxed) + Savage content (which isn't really my thing) and once I start feeling the burnout, I just don't play for awhile or only do my weeklies on reset day.
It's like a minor part of a routine until the next big update drops. When it starts getting boring, I just give it a rest. if you're not having fun, perhaps just give it a break for awhile?
I fell for the housing trap...
I still enjoy the game. I log in when I want to play and do what I want to do. I don't worry about Savage or higher and only occasionally do the random Extreme when I'm interested. Right now I'm working on my 590 crafting and gathering gear so that's keeping me busy. I was working on finishing old animas and resistance weapons for classes that weren't finished yet. I play almost every night doing something. If I'm not feeling it a given night, I do something else.
I been playing since beta ARR in 2013, never been away from the game for longer then 2 weeks since then.
For me personally it's the best game ever, but over the past couple years I've noticed it's better to play other games as well.
As far as burn out goes I just play through it cause I know right now there isn't a game that can take 14's spot as my dominant game.
Dragons Dogma and The Last of Us multiplayer came close but by the time I started those games then Thier content cycles were done, but still those 2 in all Thier glory wasn't as grand as FFXIV in all it's glory.
catgirls .
---- Hope ----
Been playing for 2 years and still really enjoy the game. Got my future hubby and my friends in my FC. I mainly do mentor roulettes at the moment but the grind is almost over (1520/2000 as of this post), and I raid on the weekends with my FC's static along with farm night on Sunday. I've done some BLU stuff, I do PvP, main story whenever it's available, maps, hunts, etc. I try to do a bit of everything really, and there's still lots of things to do.
I take a lot of breaks and play other things, usually saves me from those massive burnouts that would make you want to not come back. I'd still rather have more reason to want to keep playing this specifically though, many of my breaks aren't even due to burnout.
Story brought me to ff14 and savage/ DSR keeps me playing the game.
Story and glamour.
I have several alts so I've usually got something I'm working towards with one or another of them. I've never gotten to the point that all are fully sorted out and I don't have anywhere to get them to.
If I don't feel like playing FFXIV I'll play something else and come back to it another day.
If anything, I've got to work on that feeling of not needing to play every day, and get some other things done.
Just sort of enjoying the various elements of the game and doing weekly stuff. I'm currently taking the slow road to levelling all of my jobs to 90 while gearing out my main jobs. I've also recently dipped back into checking out the relic weapons from pre-ShB. I've wanted to get more into PvP and am very interested in doing so but just haven't really found myself in the mood so once I feel like it, I know I'll be getting into that. I don't really care for the Series 1 reward armour set so I'm not feeling like I'm in any rush on that.
Basically, I just don't expect the game to occupy all of my time and just log in to do what I feel like doing and then log out to do or play other things, and I currently definitely have things I feel like logging in for.
I like to do every quest I can find, and run roulettes. Not interested in high end content, don't even like running the new expansions dungeons, so I mainly level alt jobs and crafting.
certainly not the forums lol.
I just enjoy playing. I find it relaxing and enjoyable.
I dont find it the steaming cauldron of garbage that many that post here seem to. maybe I have different standards or just have a different playstyle, but I have fun, despite the flaws
The fact that the MMO industry is kinda dead/dry rn. Your option for good MMO are WoW and FFXIV and both are on downward spiral rn.
PvP & story. It's fun to have job diversity.
I've been avoiding PvE though. Healer job design have nothing to keep me interested with the insane amount of healing tanks get and the amount of times I just become DPS instead of a healer.
Running out of things to get for PvP though since rewards with crystals are just one-time unlocks. Ranked PvP also doesn't really offer any rewards other than a frame, which means there's no point in playing ranked next season until they introduce different rewards for reaching a tier outside of just what we have currently. Rewards for only top 100 players is mainly an unachievable goal for many, and if that's the only incentive, ranked PvP will die again.
Frontlines will still be played though. Though now that everyone's nearly done with Garo event, we're starting to really get into the stage of not having a reason to play for rewards.
I'm a loser with no friends and socially awkward.
My friend and I are reprogging savage as tanks. Currently on P3S. It keeps us busy.
#1...My FC. They are a great bunch of folks and really fun to group with.
#2...Glams. I keep hoping that one day SE will stop being so stingy with their glam system and actually put in something as robust as what exists in GW2.
#3...Housing. I haven't given up hope of one day having my own house in the game. Although, that prospect keeps looking dimmer and dimmer with each passing day as SE does little to address the issue of housing availability.
I enjoy it. I did stop for a month because I felt burnt and played Elden Ring then came back and picked up where I left off and it was as fun as I remember. Also this one of the few MMOs that has made me not grow weary quickly.
Other games like GW2 kills my enjoyment within the first week.
I always did a MMO shuffle every year where I would pick a MMO to play or rejoin
Tera, GW2, ESO etc
I enjoyed ESO but once I finished what I wanted on ESO I felt kind meh to keep going. GW2 always lasted for me for 2 days before I absolutely hated it and Tera was a slog.
FF14 never gives me those issues I always have fun when I play it and only wish I had more hours in the day to play it.
Edit - Also the never ending quest to look as cool as possible.
It's a mostly chill game... when in the game. Ya'll outside of the game are equivalent to Twitter users.
My character.
No, seriously. I’m attached to my own WoL. ;) Anything becomes enjoyable so long it involves him. Grinding, Glamour wormhole, Gpose wormhole, NG+ playthroughs. I’m a simp for my own WoL basically.
Then there’s also my static who provided me my comfort space to deal with sufficient dose of high end contents.
I don't think I'm like a twitter user.

Habit. Nothing else at least now.
For me, it's the story. I farm for gear and weapons so that I can get ready for new MSQ content. (Whether it's making sure my ilvl is on point or getting the right glam for cutscenes) I do also really enjoy playing through side quest stories, running trials, and 24-man raids (that aren't CT ones), but I mainly return for new MSQ. It is a Final Fantasy game, after all lol.
Ultimate and parsing. Sometimes DD solo and hanging out with friends.
The Titan Family.
Friend group. And sunk cost fallacy. Haven't really enjoyed the game as a whole since 4.0-ish.
