With this era of ffxiv coming to a close in the coming years, other than what has been confirmed what are your hopes for 7.0? specific story elements? new jobs/ job changes? completely new form of content? I'm curious!
To be brutally honest im hoping 7.0 will be the beginning of the end of ffxiv as a whole..
while i love ffxiv and have played since beta phase 3 back in 2014 ( with a few breaks here and there ) i fear it may go the way of WOW !!
what needs to happen is a successor to ffxiv so a ffxvii mmo with true next gen graphics a new story some , new races , new classes to keep it fresh
the graphic upgrade said to be coming will be just some filters laid over the current engine .. it needs a ground up rebuild before is grows stagnate and fades away !!
yoshi -p needs to be at the helm though ..
but i truly believe ff14 needs to end and 17 needs to happen in the next few years !!
Mostly hoping we go to central Ilsabard proper to sort out loose threads with the remaining Garlean legions and deal with other potential new problems.
We're long overdue for getting a complete map of the three Great Continents.
I hope I'm wrong about this but probably that the graphical overhaul will push the minimum requirements up too high for my poor, old laptop to be able to run the game anymore...
Old Sharlayan housing.
Mount special animations based on type that has a cooldown, like korpokkur can jump high, birds can speedup then glide, etc.
Judge class. New tank. Holding two weapons like Gabrath from FFXII.
And updated character models.
I know I am asking too much but those would be ideal for me.
Full Blue Mage Job!
Capping out at lvl 99 and swapping to other methods of power progression for the foreseeable future.
Glamour Log and Beastiary! I want to be able to go back to all of this game's content and farm it up.
Account-wide glamour/mounts/minions.
Accessories that are more than regular rings/necklaces... glamour wise. For example, imagine if there was a ring item that appeared as a glowing rune hovering over your chest. Or a necklace that had the appearance of a scarf.
Expectations:
- More of the same, for which I'll probably drop in for patch months.
Hopes:
- Reversion of changes which reduce skill ceiling more than skill floor. If change for the sake of change must come, go whole hog into the most fun parts of job kits and expand upon them, with an eye to building and capitalizing upon unique identities. Jobs > Roles.
- QoL features the likes of what's provided by benign plugins.
- Finally, some actually variety, including in difficulty, of 'midcore' content, especially within light party play.
Meracydia, Geomancer job (let me ring my bell), more Gabranth, maybe an alliance raid based on the Mana franchise.
Hoping they add back gear for item glamours and more slider bars for character creation.
I expect that the game will continue with the simplification of jobs, absolutely horrendous gameplay 1-50, boring itemization, 1 button healer dps, continuing to not listen to us, maybe a good story?
What I want is them to have a new team come in and rebuild the game in a new engine like unreal 5... but I know that is a 0% possibility.
I'm hoping for a time skip, used as a justification for a graphical update. And maybe finally letting the twins grow up while we're at it.
A dead game. If the zero queue times on release of 6.1 is any indication.
I think this is a weird fear many people have. This game is no where near what WoW is. I do agree I think it would be better if the game died and a new game was made as the skeleton of 1.0 really shows it's face a lot at times, and limits what can be done with the game.
This part I disagree with. While I think what Yoshi P did with changing 1.0 to 2.0 and reworking the game into something better was great. The game has gone in the poor direction it has with Yoshi P at the helm. As much praise as we give the guy, no one seems to want to acknowledge that all the problems with the game are his fault as well. Which doesn't surprise me as a majority of the people that praise him so much, see no problems with the game.
I doubt the game is going to die though, as they do want it to go on for 10 more years and there have likely already been funds allocated to potentially doing this. I hope class design starts to improve, I feel that most classes don't feel as interesting or fun anymore. I hope the story is interesting, I was not a fan of EW story at all I thought it was a pretty crappy ending to past 10 years of this games plot. Would definitely like a greater variety of content and a less formulaic patch cycle to maintain my interest and curiosity more.
My expectations though are very low. I think the next expansions story will be bad, I think class design will get worst, and I think the patch cycle will stay the same. I likely play at launch, then never play again.
I think we'd be fine with Yoshi P if he'd be allowed to just focus on the one game instead of also having to work on XVI. It feels like the game's focus is suffering from the split attention.
Yes, I know that's not how big corporations work. Doesn't mean I can't wish.
It feels equally as likely that more creativity is then able to fall through the cracks, into realization, with him distracted.... A pragmatics-first approach, let alone that in such a way that frequently misinterprets or misconstrues players wants, can only take a game's direction so far.
In either case, though, it'd be good to start putting some fresh eyes on the scene, even if not at the helm, to compensate for both XVI's distractions and Yoshida's more persistent blind spots (see, for instance, healer complaints).
More job "redesigns" that oversimply eveyrthing for players that probably don't exist.
expectations? more F U's to the playerbase because the devs have their feelings hurt by modders that do their job both better and for free.
Less "flavor of the expansion" content, if Island Sanctuary is finally released in 6.2x and then has last update in 6.5x, it's gonna be yet another system online being worked on within an expansion.
Mostly I just hope the game keeps at the pace it's been this whole time; as nothing has really changed that much from what I can see since I've played ARR beta- or at least changed in the ways that would make me want to stop playing.
If anything, things have gotten a lot better over the years, so that's why I hope it keeps at this pace for the next 10 years or so.
Final Fantasy 11 is still up and running; albeit in maintenance mode, but still running and people still play and subscribe to it; so I don't see 14 going away anytime soon.
EDIT:
To be more specific; I'd like to see deeper NPC interactions that go beyond dialogue in the future.
I'd like to see more
space travel and exploration via the Ragnarök
I'd really REALLY would like to see Gold Saucer get a proper overhaul or expansion of it's activities- what we have right now is terrific, but eventually, people are going to consume all of what it has to offer- (except Mahjong, that'll never see more then the 3 active people that play it)
________________________________________________________________________________
- - -I don't think it would be best for the Gold Saucer itself to be expanded, but perhaps a new games establishment entirely that have more sporting-like games, like Baseball and Bowling type games you see in Japan, Darts, Pool, etc.
further simplification and removal/merging of abilities and skills on healers that cater to people who will still only press Cure 1 on a 7s gcd and complain about how healing in XIV is hard.
All AF head gear, pre order head gear, mogstation headgear, special/holiday event headgear and glamour reward headgear being wearable by Viera and Hrothgar.
Hoping:
All healers get an overhaul to better balance the damage/healing ratio, and more unique playstyles based on their theme/identity
Expecting:
All Healers get even more healing ogcds that are basically copy-paste versions of each other, and to avoid button bloat, their dots are now removed too.
Hoping for 7.0: a more tightly woven story, focused on local events and characters. Increasing depth of jobs. More deep dungeons, Gold saucer expanded for better party play. More PVP actions and better balancing. Ultimately, I want to be surprised by whatever they do.
Expecting: more power of friendship, similar tropes, callbacks to non-Nomura FF games, job simplification. I'm perfectly happy to be wrong on all of this
More complaining.
Mostly looking forward to the graphics update. Hope that it's good and that SE doesn't cut corners.
plenty of QoL that this game needs and the graphical update.
A more "grounded" plot about being an adventurer again.
Revamped character customization.
More midcore/harder 4 player content.
Maybe a UI revamp? It's more or less been the same for nearly a decade and it's beginning to show its age.
Playable Loporrits released with female Hrothgar. Would literally never happen in a million years but I can dream.
The only think I want for 7.0+ is the first step of the relic weapon starting at 7.15.
Otherwise, I except nothing. Yoshida said he wanted to focus on players who don't like MMOs. Which means more of our subs will go to f2p experience. And with his vision of "casual players", we'll probably see even more job simplifications, and why not, dots removal for all healers. Because omg anxiety.
Discontinuing the PS4 client in favour of building of a modern baseline on PS5 and more recent PC hardware. The PS5 will have been on the market for a full three years by the time 7.0 is likely to drop on a two year expansion cycle. They've already got plans for various graphical improvements so it would be nice to actually see that alongside much newer hardware to build the best zones yet. You can see the difference in the game between PS3-era zones and those that came after PS3 support was dropped.
Maybe if they can actually get enough PS5s out to stores first......
Expectations: More of the same formula.
Big quality of life UI changes in light of the recent third party tool debate.
Even more job simplification sadly.
Hoping for: Proper DRK and NIN changes
Complete healer rework/overhaul
Expanding on SMN abilities
Complete rework of BLU
Complete rework of the glamour system
Hoping:
Healers all receive much needed TLC and have more interesting downtime DPS options. Removal of bloated oGCD heals so there's slightly more of a focus on all of the healers needing to use their GCD heal kit.
Moving away from the boring 120s burst window
Expectations:
7.0 will be ShB 3.0 in terms of gameplay and jobs will get very little changes, most DPS jobs will get a "finisher" added onto their rotation at level 99/100 that is merged with a button they already have.
They will randomly pick a DPS job that had little to no complaints (probably SAM or NIN) and completely rework it, alienating all of the former mains and making people wonder why they even bothered. The devs will ignore the outcry.
Every job will get easier.
SMN will only get 1 summon that plays almost exactly like one of its current summons does.
They've already sold 19 million PS5s despite all the stock problems which is pretty impressive and they're current forecast has that number doubling in the next year (assuming no stock problems again). Realistically there will be enough PS5s on the market in the regions Square Enix officially support to safely drop PS4 support in 7.0. Not that SE will likely care but markets like Brazil that don't have access to PS5s or higher-end PCs still has a lot of PS4 players so you'd lose those but I guess SE probably wouldn't care.
I'm expecting more of the same:
- Healer issues unaddressed because the devs have 0 clue what healer mains like (despite massive feedback) as not a single one of them mains the role
- Class changes that drive away people who like the job
- Boring battle content across the board from dungeons to savage
- A decent to great story
What I'd like to see:
- Better class identity in PvE as seen in PvP (for all the problems the kit has no class feels the same)
- Healer changes to match the design of content in the game
- Actual. Midcore. 4man party. Content. Because dungeons are not it and arguably neither are deep dungeons.
- Removal of glamour restrictions; allow us to be fully creative with our armor
- Possible character creation overhaul
I'm hoping for an actual change to the content formula they got going on now. I don't want to be able to predict what will come in patch 7.1, 7.2, etc and be mostly right. But I'm not expecting it...
