So why do you?
But who asked?
Needs vs wants.
You don't need them, but they do add certain QoL things that the devs have refused to do over the game's lifecycle. I don't use them but I understand why others do.
That's a good life lesson.
You don't have to agree with a stance, but you can attempt to understand it.
The point was console players are perfectly capable of clearing high end content up to and including ultimates without any third party tools to make things easier. So PC players have no excuse for needing such addons. It's time to just admit it's compensating for a lack of skill and situational awareness and not necessity.
I shudder everytime I read one of your posts. I truly do.
That said, I will say this for 3rd Party add-ons:
- UI/Non game interfering mods = Who gives a rats? If someone wants their UI to have KH themes how does that matter?
- Intrusive game altering addons = No bueno. The button collapsar that replaces your combo with the next step auto style is a distinct gameplay advantage.
PC will literally always have the advantage over console due to mods of various sorts though. Not exactly new, nor something you don't know as a console player going in.
Do they don't need them or they have people using them and then giving call out through discord benefiting from said 3rd party tools while pretending they can clear without addon.
or, or
Or
some people have standards that the game should at the bare minimum give the same amount of information that mmos from nearly 20 years ago gave them by default
Seriously, there's no getting around it, whether or not something is possible isn't the issue, the ui not displaying info that should be readily available is. no ifs, ands, or buts about it, there's no argument in the world that can convince me that buff timers in the party list is some sacrilege of gaming, or that seeing a shield on hp other than the party list is cheating (Lol?)
I'm glad the devs are looking into implementing things like this for the sole reason that console players deserve the same QOL that PC players can currently attain via plugins, but the snark they're giving to people for daring to have higher standards than them is just irritating.
They provide more than QoL elements to the gameplay. They can and do give distinctive advantages over console players.
A poster here already admitted to me that healers can see the mitigation and ogcd heal cooldowns of their teammates. That is one hell of an advantage if you ask me.
I am trying to understand it myself. My previous question of why would a player seeking more difficult content support and use addon tools not supported by the dev team that makes the content less so got no response.
Seems to me players care more about the credibility than the difficulty. Thoughts?
Admitting to that you cannot beat the game with the console setting of UI and the likes and so on and so forth just mean you are not able to actually do that savage og ultimate content that you do and claim to have passed on the same terms as any player in the game whom does not have the same advantage.
Clearly many forum users don't play with actual people who succeeds great time on consoles.
That is the most baffling part. People playing high end content seem to overwhelming try to find means to trivialize said content. The likely explanation is they want the prestige of clearing it, and the rewards said content gives, without actually earning it.
But they'll never admit this, of course.
Even if it's not a need, there's so many things that would benefit literally everyone playing the game. A small QoL update like adding timers to the buffs and such displayed on the party list alone would help tremendously, for example. Things like chat bubbles would be great for RPers and people taking funny screenshots, and wouldn't bother anyone especially if there were an option to toggle them on and off. Being able to change the colors of various markers such as AOE puddles would help a lot on troublesome visual fights like P3S.
A lot of small things can go a long way. And if you don't want them, you don't have to use them. But there's always benefits to more options, accessibility, etc.
It's because PC players, are used to using other 3RD party programs, mods and addons in the games they play.
It's a feeling that propels them to act as if, they are some how entitled to their use of them, because of whatever reasons they make use of, to mask their own inability to play a game w/o them.
It's akin to, athletes using synthetic injections and steroids to have an advantage over those who don't, they require these tools to make of for what they're lacking.
Don't know your rotation? Download an Addon.
Don't know where not to stand during any given fight? Download an Addon.
Don't like not know how your DPS stacks up in the instance, while also wanting to know others stats? Download an Addon.
There is an endless cycle of Addons to take pretty much any guess work, out of any part of the game, including crafting, market board selling, economy shifting ect.
If you're not confident enough in yourself to clear certain content w/o the use of Addons, then look at yourself and how to improve, over needing 3rd party help to bridge the gap between player skill and demanding content.
Also from the realm of the outside looking in, I found it really interesting that all of this came up after the release of Dragonsong. I would throw a massive chunk of change in the wager tank that the dev team put in a ton of work to ensure this content wouldn't get cleared within the first week of release.
Don't be envious just cause your betters have access to nicer toys than you.
I believe the issue is that you're confused in your premise of what others are seeking and haven't bothered to take the time to really understand what's being sought after. They're not necessarily looking for difficulty; they're just looking for a certain level of engagement, which can be provided via many things, including difficulty.
Hell, if mods could provide that long sought-after engagement, I'd install that in a heartbeat.
More people whining about content they will never even attempt.
Lets go back to the stone age. Don't need AC, tv or electricity. Just a big pointy stick. Return to monkey
What's scary is the nonsense the OP is spouting is actually getting plenty of upvotes.
There's something wrong with the ff14 community tbh. While they love to ramble about filthy elitists and evil toxic WoW players, there's a sort of sneaky passive aggressive toxicity under the surface of some of the playerbase that's rather disturbing. Usually it involves belittling veteran players in whatever way they can while hiding behind the ToS as some sort of shield which they can use to stifle and dismiss opinions and throw scathing remarks out or gloat when the developers take their "side".
Meanwhile the veteran player is expected to carry them through content, smile and be nice even if they refuse to contribute and is banned from bringing up valid forms of proof of this, or proof if blamed for things that were not their fault.
It's tiresome. I mean, really. Good players who achieve things being accused of being handheld by addons by players who can barely scrape through leveling roulette, when all they want is to enjoy the game peacefully.
Wow. That sounds exactly like my argument when I would have to enlighten players seeking said engagement that engagement entails much more than just difficulty.
Now that difficulty and one button smash dancing is no longer the wards of engagement, we have shifted to needing tools not supported by the developers? Shift the goal posts much?
What a disingenuous post, good god. The content is made to not require third party tools. The devs themselves clear them before releasing them. Console players are able to clear it just fine without these addons. Why the hell do you need them? You want to cheat because you don't want to put effort into the game but still want the prestige and rewards from that kind of content. If you could at least be honest about this I would have some semblence of respect for you guys. What I hate is how you gaslight about why you really want addons in the game. You just want to trivialize the content. You KNOW it is not necessary, but you don't want to put the effort into the game. Just fucking admit it and stop this fake victim complex and moral grandstanding.
No one needs a personal housekeeper but it sure would be nice to have one.
Nobody needs them, its a matter of making your game more enjoyable to play. You sound mad jealous tbh :3
Also there are no addons that actually makes fights themselves easier, merely some things like skill rotations. And even those are far from used by everyone on PC.
Other addons assists with targeting. Did you know that its entirely possible to make macros ingame letting you heal somebody by mousing over their name in party list without changing target?
Furthermore, did you know there is an addon that does the same, but without the games inherent skill queing problem? Square needs to up their. But I digress. You give somebody tools to assist them and they will use those tools.
And those who are too poor to afford said tools don't get to use them, and will inevitably try to make their lack of something useful a point of pride because denial.
Oh no addon/modder brothers we got too cocky.
What are we going to do now that FFXIV will not look like Second life?.
Help, help. Someone installed a DIRTY MOD that fixes audio crashes! Or gets rid of that obnoxious gigantic gap at the bottom of the left side of the character screen after belt removal! Police! Arrest that lawbreaker!
Dude just admit you're a casual and go back to being hardstuck in plat lol
youre being intellecutally dishonest. addons go from things as harmless as "change the bgm" to actual cheating and automation. use some critical thinking for once and stop clumping them together and pretending people are all pining for the cheating ones.
theres plugins that do help and make things "easier" but not by a substantial margin. theres one addon out there that makes battle countdowns show for every second instead of just the last 5. it makes it "easier" in that someone doesnt have to count in their heads to use sharpcast or whatever at -12 seconds, but do you seriously think theyre unable to do that themselves? moreover do you seriously think that being able to use sharpcast at exactly -12 is going to make someone suddenly able to clear savages and ultimates with no practice? youre just arguing in bad faith at that point.
people are defending the fun and harmless stuff. things like changing bgm, adding a background image to text boxes, or filtering icon clutter when opening the map. people also defend the things that anyone could do without help. yes anyone can count seconds in their head, and anyone can target a party member to see how many seconds are remaining in their buff/debuff. yes anyone can sift through the battle log to see what killed them. these addons arent giving anyone any big advantage, theyre just saving them them some needless effort by displaying the already available information better than the vanilla ui does.
and of course theres the addons that just fix the shit SE themselves wont fix. like the one that solves the issue of controllers randomly disconnecting on PC, or one that lets you restart audio without closing the game for when the game poops its pants. or the one that prevents the client from closing when it fails to login. or the one that makes animation lock not last twice as long if youre not lucky enough to live in Sacramento.
N O B O D Y is saying they cant clear with the vanilla ui lmao. the jp guy that got banned does world prog. in case youre not aware, add ons dont work for the first week-ish after a patch, so anyone who clears stuff in the first days clearly can play with the vanilla functions of the game, they simply want to have better qol.
i suppose that being a squenix simp and being intellectually dishonest go hand in hand.
It is too bad this is an obvious bait thread as it could be a actual good discussion.
I don't need an add-on, mod, or a plugin to turn my 123 combo into a one-button just like in PvP. However, when the option is available, it would be expected if I took the opportunity.
Instead of punishing players with bans and warning for using third-party tools. Why not provide them with official in-game alternatives that give players no reason to download third-party tools?
Titanmen is a way better troll. This one is just cringe like the younglings say.
