New Magic DPS job idea!

So I took like a month break to catch up on WoW to see what I missed (for those who left and haven't checked in there isn't much to talk about) and I noticed something. WoW has quite the selection of magical dps classes (jobs) compared to FF14. So I started brainstorming a possible idea for a magic dps job that would be suited for FF14.

Now beware as I don't have a lot of knowledge of the final fantasy franchise outside of my experiences in FF14, FF7, FF6, and FF tactics. But I think a non far fetched idea would be...

The Painter job!

The Painter job is a Magical Ranged dps job that uses a Brush and Palette. By using aether around them they begin to form pictures in the air (or on some white rectangle thing i cant think of name). Once these pictures take form they are unleashed upon their enemies.

A few nice examples on how this would work: Painter begins painting a water fall, within the cast time of finishing it above the enemy a heavy wave of water pours onto the enemy and takes big damage.

A painter can begin painting a chocobo stampede and from the picture in front of them a bunch of chocobos rushes into the enemy in a stampede like animation and exploding back into paint upon impact.

A painter paints a picture of a Moogle caster (or any sort of pet / minion variant) that works as a timed pet combatant that fires magic at their enemis.

With the art and magic of painting anything is possible, there is no fantasy limit that they will have themselves bound too and within the FF14 universe we've faced a boss in Stormblood (i believe) that used paintings as magic against us and we used them to protect ourselves. So it isn't a far fetched idea.

Not a bad Idea but doesn't sound like a major class so far form what I've read more of a limited job
Also I don't remember there being and this FF that could transition into this so it has that as a handicap
Not a fan of more pet classes since they don't really come out as people imagine

cheesing Mechs like flying can be exploited making that a impossible option to be a main class hard to balance around

Ah well I wouldn't be sure what they added or did but I just would like another magic dps and as i was thinking something out I was trying to get something like Demonology Warlock from WoW into FF14.... but more fitting for the FF14 theme.

So, a bit like a player version of Chadarnook in Sigmascape V2.0

Yeah something like that. I came to that conclusion because between green mage, time mage, mathetician mage, Geomancer and other FF Tactic inspired jobs I couldn't think of anything that would really fit as a player version. So I was thinking and thinking and for some reason my brain kinda of drifted towards Sai from Naruto Shippuden how he would use a scroll and draw images that came to life as Ninjutsu so i thought... what if players drawed... no painted images into attacks then i remembered the boss from stormblood and i was like .... this isn't that far fetched :D

Is there a difference from this to SMN not to run over your idea I like it but I want to see a bit more as to where this could be unique

Well Tbh I wasn't sure those were just a few ideas i came up with in terms of spells. I wouldn't know how Square Enix would design the next magic dps class or how they would like it to be different from others. But painting environmental things like earth quakes, volcano eruptions, tornadoes, hurricanes to things of wild animals like chocobo stampedes, flora vines coming around and lashing or entangling enemies, to Raising a barrier of earth as a defensive cd, even painting fire bombs to charge at their enemies to explode.

Tbh i'm being inspired by think Druidism with nature manipulation, Shamanism with Element manipulation, Beast Master (ff job) for animal magics / controls (a bit of BLU too), with a bit of Demonology magic of just summoning demons (minions) to charge in and die. All in the art of paint making it happen in a theme befitting Final Fantasy.

So like Relm then? Also the class name would be pictomancer, calling it painter just kills all excitement. Personally I'd rather they add chronomancer, plus, creating an art picture for each attack would be a lot of work.

I agree it would be a lot of work animation wise, i was just wanting another magical dps job with constant casting. Think gunbreaker with the cartridge ability that has 3 moves, and then you use a off GCD in between each one in a synergy like fashion. Something like that could work with chronomancer and its time magic.

I could see this a a really cool tank mage alternating between minion and self and magic CD but I'm sure that's not what your going for
I think you want more of a DPS sacrificing your minion to do more damage is interesting reminds me of the old rook and bishop for Mch
Multiple summons is a cool idea but gonna have to be tweaked for FF to not murder peoples frame rate but that's not a question right now
Were trying to make the class first

There is something here maybe we can flush it out

- Minion that can be sacrificed for dmg
-Multi summons (maybe a sort of dual cast or delay cast could be an option)
-Earth Barrier (Like this Idea Maybe you become the rock and reduce meteors or party dmg to who ever is behind you)
-chocobo stampede is simply fun and cool
- Volcano (maybe a aoe dot or ground dot)
-earth quake/ tornado (I can think of somethings but this also could be used for other classes so IDK)

So far I can see some solid Mechs here and some uniqueness
might need to clean up the theme a bit but overall not impossible

So in WoW there is a warlock spec called demonology, you would cast a simple shadow bolt 3 times to get 3 soul shards (resources) and you would cast "hand of gul'dan" its a flaming small meteor from the sky that explodes and does decent damage to the primary target and minor damage to those around the primary target. After the mini magic explosion 3 wild imps are spawned near you from said meteor. They begin shooting small fire balls for a specific time before disappearing. How ever you can use a spell called IMPlosion that orders your imps to charge at the enemy and combusting upon their foes sacrificing them for aoe damage. There are other spells to summon demons that fade within a short time. This is the inspiration i get with summoning minions to do your bidding.

Sage was highly influenced by the world of warcraft priest specialization: Discipline that would give allies a buff called atonement and any damage upon enemies would heal allies with atonement. Penance is the at one spell that shoots a big orb of heal towards an ally, bubble based cds are disciplines shields and so on.

Hunters have an ability called Stampede that just has a bunch of animals running through an enemy doing aoe damage, the animals themselves dont have any physical bodies to block you as its just a spell. And elemental disasters can be really anything.

Im familiar with Sage and hunter never played warlock in WOW so Im getting you

I do wish for them to put a version of atonement in the game for a class this could be cool to have

I think this could be very strong as a limited job but with unlimited options and opportunity but I can see this working as a full job too

a combo spell that does damage and summons is pretty cool think that would be a good fit for your idea

I think combo spells would be the X factor of this class and give you that Sai outlook

FFXIV just brought us Pictomancer job but apparently the forums have had an oracle this whole time.

when i saw the pictomancer video i thought i was watching a new splatoon trailer at first

ehh...those skill effects can't be the real ones right? They look bizarre and out of place.

Blue mage story did say it was from the new continent.

So safe to assume this will be it's OG and combat version.

Not really clicking with it, is that just me?

Glad for those who are excited though, I'm sure I'll level the job anyways (and we haven't seen the gameplay so maybe I'll love that), but the visuals and theme don't really connect with me. Maybe that's good since I've liked all the other normal jobs, so perhaps this is diversity finally leaving my window lol. Just curious if anyone else is having a hard time hyping it (not upset, just also not getting a pumped feeling). I would have traded pictomancer as limited to have blue as normal, personally lol.

The idea that it doesn't have raise is interesting, maybe a more mobile yet high damage based job then.

On an aside of visuals though, loving the other stuff (zones, gear, updates).

Not personally excited about Pictomancer or Viper. Overall kind of underwhelmed with the new jobs this time around.

The most I will do is get both new classes to max level and never use them again. It saves me room not having caster or scouting gear.

Crazy when I saw picto I thought of this thread been searching for it to say congrats and someone beat me to it

How do you feel that your speculation has become true now? Including the Moogle caster part no less!

Mine is still waiting to become true. Hopefully someday in the future :(
