Crystal is indistinguishable from unranked/bronze. Please bring back the old Feast brackets.
I do feel like they needed to come up with a system that can curate players based partly on their actual performance in a match because there's been so many instances of ending up with people who don't know how to stay alive or push buttons in general and have jarringly low damage dealt/healed values at the end of the match.
I really hope they tighten this up for next season. Hand out rewards however you want (as long as it doesn't become the giant mess that is Frontline Roulette), but the matchmaker needs to be able to correctly track winrate and adjust accordingly. The aggressive upward tendency hurts everyone.
Ranking and server ticrate are my only substantial problems with CC. You're so close, Square!
People reaching Crystal with a 30-40% win rate really says it all. The old Feast ranking system had a lot of issues as well, albeit less so in seasons 1-3, but the quality of high ranked matches was on a completely different level - though to be fair, part of that was due to the much smaller playerbase.
A system that saves you from dropping down an entire tier is a good idea but it shouldn't be absolute - once your win rate is below 50%, you absolutely should drop down.
this wouldn't be a problem if there were premades
You Guys arent entitled for any rewards or victories in PvP, be glad that the Series malmstones are even a thing or else u would go out pretty much empty handed.
If you really want to improve Match quality, start with yourself and dont be a Metaslave like the rest and play the Job you enjoy the most and try to become better at it. It takes commitment, as well as trial and error. If you think playing on easy mode with Jobs such as WAR, WHM and RDM will get you far, then you will always be predictable no matter how good your numbers look like.
You really need to drop this "git gud" attitude that it's always the fault of the people complaining that they're not winning more.
Playing out of your mind isn't going to matter if the rest of your team doesn't understand fundamentals like not isolating yourself to become an easy target, not using elixirs to recover MP between engagements, using LoS to force ranged to approach, focus fire, etc.
The bottom line is that ranking up presently feels like a total crapshoot because the game has no way of determining which players are actually better/worse then others. It would be nice if the game could somehow determine what the average amount of damage contribution for a given role is and perhaps try to group you up with people of similar performance based on how much higher/lower then that value you tend to be, because avoiding death is naturally going to result in higher contribution assuming you're actually hitting your buttons and not excessively playing chicken to avoid taking damage.
I would rather not be matched up with suicidal player number who-knows-what who gap closes into the enemy team at the start of the match then expects not to get instantly melted without popping guard.
Why else would anyone ever bother on the Forums and blame it on Matchmaking, if not for this? There is bad People in every Ranking Ladder, even in Crystal. It was no different in Feast, when we push the matter of wintrades and so on aside.
Oh and on a sidenote, just because something doesn't make sense to you, doesnt mean it overall makes no sense, maybe thats why People like you complain in the first place, hm?
Tl;dr: Matchmaking is fine, People are not.
You clearly never played Feast during the early seasons. There wasn't a single player in the top 100, let alone in Diamond or Platinum, with a <50% win rate. That coupled with you only being matched with people of your own tier, as well as 1+- respectively, guaranteed a mostly very good and balanced experience in higher rated games; with the flipside being that you barely got to play as a DPS or even a Tank because of the smaller playerbase and fixed roles. Still, I'd argue that quality over quantity is a good thing, we just need a middle ground now.
Your post is objectively pointless given the context. Literally no one was talking about the Meta, nor does it have anything to do with the vast difference in skill between players who are literally playing in the same bracket/tier.
How is the matchmaking fine when you have players who brute-forced their way into specific tiers by just playing nonstop and waiting for a few win streaks? Even in Crystal you regularly face and play with players who would have peaked in Gold or Platinum with a proper ranking system and matchmaking.
It's a complete disaster right now and definitely needs some significant changes if they ever want FFXIVs PvP to be taken even remotely seriously. That and the cheating issues, I still think that most of the wintrading will resolve itself if they fix the rest.
First, sorry for the Double Post, posting from a Phone has its limitations.
Lets assume and say Matchmaking would be "fixed" by queuing you alongside People of equal or near equal "skill", which WILL mean (judging on how squeenix always handles things) you fight aganist and with people from your Rank only OR within a rating score that works on a similar level.
The biggest Problem, such a thing would have, is the way how it limits itself and how it can be abused, allow me to elaborate further:
Lets say you are in Gold Rank with a Elo Score of 1500, the matchmaker only allows you to get queued with People +/- 250 to 500 Rating closest to you, prioritising the ones closest to you (since you want People who are closest to your level). Not only will you end up in a Match with always the sane People, it can also be easily abused to encourage Wintrading (like back in Feast, since low entry People from Unranked/Bronze will be discouraged to progress, since they only queue with "the worst") and History will only repeat itself at this point.
And then there is the matter of People using Alts for PvP. It is by no means a bad thing in itself, but a Alt character who'se only purpose is to sabotage matches in a legal way is a frightening hurdle to overcome, especially in a Elo Ranking based Matchmaker.
You only need to see the Feast Ranking from Season 18 from Chaos Datacenter and you will see what im talking about.
I'm literally on top 100 right now. Every single player on top 100 will tell you the same thing. The games are absolute garbage in Crystal with the extremely low quality of players hardstuck in Diamond/Crystal 0 points. It's not even a matter of gameplay errors, there's people in these queues who genuinely don't have keys bound and backpedal around. For the highest bracket of gameplay matches shouldn't be decided by who got the 200k done/800k taken brynhildr warrior hardstuck d5 every single game.
To be fair I'd say a lot of people who reach crystal don't care about climbing anymore so they play different jobs and relax a bit and just trying to have fun since being in the top 100 really doesn't have much meaning with a lot (not all) of them being win traders and cheaters.
To say the quality is low though is kind of silly. The level of focus fire in crystal is significantly higher and more consistent. In plat and diamond people would focus the hell out of me on war. In crystal I more or less get ignored as the team focuses down the easier to kill jobs. When I play mch or rpr to simply just have a change of pace....its night and day on how much I get focused where as when I was in plat people would outright ignore me as rpr in the backline killing their healer.
I just got to diamond on rpr. Every single match since has felt like bronze matches.
Teammates allergic to crystal. Not doing any dmg or using LB in any useful way.
It's actually worse. People in Bronze are still trying to get better and win.
Crystal is full of folks who realized they'll never hit top 100 and are just screwing around.
There's no penalty for throwing matches because you can't de-rank. It's an absolute dumpster fire.
