The absolute state of MCH rn

Machinist has been lying dead in a gutter since the 6.0 tooltips got announced. Its job philosophy is a selfish dps in the role that by design deals the least amount of damage. Its strict cooldowns and windows leaves it feeling needlessly punishing to play yet underwhelming given its damage hits like a wet noodle.

Why is the cowboy-hatted gun-toting robot-summoning job just so bland? :(

The design team's current obsession with homogenization and a staid 2-min %-dmg raid buff for 20+ seconds is leaving jobs like MCH without any room for a fun, interesting identity. Let us plant debuffing turrets on the arena. Let us go akimbo or use the cool PvP sniper rifle. Let us do something beyond "press the 580-potency weaponskill every 20 seconds".

SE. Please give us at least one complex job per role, to help newer players learn more about the game and to give experienced players something fun to play. Both casual and hardcore players will love you for it. (please i just want my cowboy Gundam job to be cool)

MCH either needs debuffs added to its tools (return the turrets!) Or it needs to have cast times so it can become a selfish dps equal to sam/blm (they will not budge on this physical ranged tax for some reason)

Oh god flashbacks to the Gun/Bow mage of HW lol. Fun times tbh but omg would not go back to that state of the game. For reasons other than cast times

I wouldn't mind if they brought back HW machinist cast times (you'd still need a skill like reload and quick fire to be reintroduced for on demand movement) but also allowed you to move slowly during casts like with PvP.
But then again I'm no MCH main and miss the good ol days

For everything normal kupo I find it just dandy and easy but hitting up savage or such where it counts I really cannot comment on because I have not researched or ran data for those on mch. kupo <3

Seeing as how they go with Edgar's (FFVI) tools maybe something like Noiseblaster aoe stun or something kupo <3 lol

Pretty sure this expansion, the reason why the new skills were so boring was they stated machinist is in what they consider a completed state. If this is what a completed class looks like I am sorry everyone but your classes are going to suck and have high apm in the future.

Ironically, it feels as the least complete job.
Heat gauge is used by one button (And extend to Heatblast/auto cross bow).
Heatblast spam somehow remains at 5 GCDs and not on stack. Blood weapon was put on stack, Soteria was put on stack.
Battery gauge is used by one button and it's press&forget.
Flamethrower still exist as if they somehow forgot about it.
Wildfire is incredibly boring.
Barrel stabilizer needs a QoL or change how it function due to how rigid it makes the heat gauge management.
Basic combo is boring, visually unappealing and completely disconnected from the main rotation apart from gauge generation.
Automaton Queen needs QoLs, I'm not going to repeat everything about how its AI is flawed.

All the dopamine lies in Drill, Air Anchor and Chain saw (that isn't even a chainsaw.).
MCH need the other half of the rework.

I literally had a conversation with someone recently because I was over at their house and saw their mch hotbars and I was like 'How do you weave Gauss Round and Ricochet with Heat Blast when they're so far apart?' and they were like "wut?" because they didn't realize that was a thing

Not calling you out but maybe it's something that is commonly overlooked by players new to the job Similar to how the meaning of the additional effect of Suiton is sometimes overlooked or not understood by new ninja players

I mean you say all the dopamine lies in the one shot GCDs but personally I get da rush from that high apm whilst doing a Wildfire combo with weaves through movement mechanics

I will say that wish Auto Crossbow got the additional effect of reducing Gauss Round and Ricochet cooldown by 15sec as well so I could do some more weaves on trash in dungeons

Why do people comment on critique posts if they never post anything worth posting. Sheesh you don’t go to a protest defending Walmart, and you don’t post “I think the job is great” in a blatant displeased rant of how the job ISNT

Also, I’m fully aware NO ONE doesn’t know that you weave G/R into heat blast and it’s borderline insulting to assume anyone especially on the forums, more so on a job rant post, more so if it’s freaking CKNovel, the literal token MCH main in the forums.

And good technically but no, Heat is to execute 1 button the weaving is reset on HB behalf not heat

MCH changes I'd like:
-Overcharge is now on the charge system so you get 5 attacks in during it
-Heat Blast now gives 30 seconds to Gauss Round, but none to Ricochet
-Auto Crossbow now gives 30 seconds to Ricochet
-Flamethrower does 20 more potency on targets affected by Bioblaster, finishing the cast entirely rewards 20 heat
-Drill and Bioblaster are now separate
-Hate to say it, but they 'could' follow SAM and remove Reassemble and make Drill/Air Anchor direct crit by default. Maybe apply a bleed to targets hit by Chainsaw
-Do something to spice up the combo shots, maybe bring back cast times for those but boost damage

Fairness all job gauges have been skewered to only have one button to execute with the sad death of Kaiten. Kinki only has 1 use, Ninki only has 1 use , Soul voice only has 1 use, Espirt only has 1 use, meditation only has 1 use, Aetherflow only has 1 use, Mana gauge only has 1 use technically. Homogenization at its finest

First point is inevitable really, won’t really make the job “better” but it would be less ping reliant so more people can play it which is good

Second point I’m on board, hate the awkward 15s mark ONLY if they upgrade the animations cuz Gauss isn’t that impressive to spam

Third point agreed

Fourth point I’ve seen many flamethrower fixes in my time and it’s pretty hard to justify its existence, but tethering it to another lackluster lateral skill isn’t a good substitute. 20 Heat is negligible when Scattershot can get that in 2 hits and still retain its freedom

Fifth point is pointless and would add nothing but even more pointless fodder for a job that needs less of it frankly

Sixth point is also pointless as the removal of Kaiten was met with massive backlash. Also MCH has the least amount of skills in the game rivaling summoner and Dancer. It’s unneeded

Last point is also trivial, how would cast times make the boring ass rotation better? Because you have to wait? More needs to be done to spice it up besides that

We take summoner's cast times and give it to machinist. Oh yeah, it's all coming together.

MCH PvP is more fun than PvE lol.
They also didn't do crap for Queen which is sad.
MCH is boring again after SB.

These sound good. However, wildfire may need a similar change, since it pairs with heat blast, to guarantee full potency.

I like the bioblaster + flamethrower idea, but instead of the heat reward at the end, it should maybe generate 5 per tick of damage(obviously not per target).
Reassemble should probably stay, because it's not on any resource; kaiten used kenki
I REALLY hope they don't add casting back to MCH. Back in Heavensward I refused to level MCH, because of the casting, and even dropped playing BRD. I don't enjoy it in PVP, but it's a little more understandable, because MCH does so much damage.

and yet I had the real life experience of having to explain to someone with mch at 90 that enjoys playing mch that G/R refresh from HB was a thing
and just the other day I saw a YouTuber starting to explain TA requiring Hide to be used before they were cut off by their friend and the subject was changed
which tbf I don't think they played ninja very much but in my own experience with this game I have had plenty of dungeon runs with NIN where I never saw TA up on bosses Heck when I level'd nin myself it took me a bit to figure it out and the only reason was because I had previously seen TA up mid fight on bosses when playing with Ninjas

It's disingenuous to say the HG only effects 1 button if the refresh on G/R is only accessible while Overheated
so I don't care how much of a minor celebrity someone is if I see them say something that seemingly ignores that then I can only assume that maybe they didn't know

And what else did you want me to address

the claim is that mch doesn't feel as complete as other jobs while also having said "Battery gauge is only used by one button and it's press and forget"
That's a problem with many jobs right now
pld war drk sam brd dnc sch
whether your fighting single target or AoE (or if you're the mt or ot in pld's case) pretty much dictates the one button you press
drk îs the only exception from that list but it's second button is also a "press and forget"

the only two jobs that actually still have gauges that matter in terms of resource management are nin and rdm and barely at that
so to me that bullet point makes saying it feels like "the least complete job" a false premise
In essence any job with a vestigial gauge is far from complete "why do they even have these gauges if they're only used for one button?"

and I did add for me the dopamine rush from mch is in the high apm and therefore I would like to see the refresh added to Auto Crossbow so I can bbbbbbrrrrrrrr G/R Spam in AoE situations too
but I also liked DA when that was thing so I'm just a monkey that likes pressing buttons

It isn't really though. It lacks depth. The only reason it feels better is the additional effects on the tools and a button to trigger them, which would be more fun than heat blast spam...
It also feels good in PvP cause unlike PvE it's actually strong.

Suggesting CC is saying to give nothing. It's not useful and is there to look pretty and waste people's time for the most part.

Not necessarily... It's possible to have it as mobile as it is today, and the difficult threshold being defined by the job mechanics. Bring back buffs/debuffs to watch, micromanagement of the Queen, or tools interacting with each other, or more oGCDs to handle. Have Battery and Heat being more dynamic in how you spend and acquire. They just need to raise the skill ceiling, and that would justify bigger selfish dps numbers.

Party dps support is not the answer either when everything boils down to rdps. They could have 3 different dmg% buffs and still be on the bottom of the barrel in the end of the evening.

Machinist is a complete job in the same way a bowl of plain mashed potatoes is a complete meal. It does what it needs to do, but it's bland and not especially interesting. And the flashy Heated animations are just putting those mashed potatoes in a fancy bowl.

Bow and gun mage were best times. When double range and Dragoon was the meta, kicking pure casters out of the party lol.

Probably made YoshiP very sick, so it wasn't going to last.
