Please, let us write in chat!

Why can't we use the chat normally in pvp? I know it's to prevent toxicness, but come on, it's a team game and we can only solo queue into the match. How can we communicate with only commands? It's really annoying using the limited commands we have. I think we are all old enough to block someone, if someone is toxic in chat.
Please let us write in the pvp chat normally, don't punish the majority cause of a minority.

tbh, if we can chat in a pf duty. there is no reason to not be able to chat in pvp.
We can chat everywhere else. with the same people. but not in pvp.
People have the option to be toxic everywhere.

The honest answer?

Because it generates a high volume of support tickets. Every time something happens that generates a lot of support tickets, SE addresses it fast - it costs them a lot.

There's been a lot more pressure - mainly when it was first introduced - to revert quickchat. But they won't. Consider every time you've had someone spam "Hello" midmatch, or "nice job" or "good match". Then imagine that every time one of those people is in a game, on the old system it would generate at least one but very possibly several tickets. Then consider the manpower, and thus money, needed to investigate all of them, potentially take action against accounts, and of course, reply to all those tickets. And SE doesn't do automated report systems like virtually every other pvp game because they don't want to risk action against people that haven't done anything wrong (except in the eyes of the community) save to play an off meta class or such.

(Not saying I agree with it... but so it goes)

well, if they could at least add "target the ranged dps" "target the healer" options. without having to target them specifically

Alternatively, one of the ideas I've seen that I liked is - when someone uses the 'Attacking X' quickchat, but an icon over them. Essentially, bringing it together with the overhead markers system (but the quick chat ones could be temporary perhaps)

I'm going with a no. Imo, you barely need anymore communication than what's given, hell, I feel like we have too much useless ones.

The issue with this I feel like folks will all be spending time hooting and hollering and finger pointing while the other team makes their way to the point.

This game mode is way too high pace to stop and rant on and I already have heard Feast S1 stories. So no thanks, don't feel like hearing the your mom jokes, the Sweatlords screeching at me when we already have the passive aggressive "Good job" spammers. Sure I can report people being toxic but I really don't want to at every turn especially when I rank.

I wish I could block chat completely tbh.

I disagree completely. In fact, remove quick chat and the ability to mark your team. The extremely low chance someone actually uses non-marker callouts is not worth suffering "Good match! Good match! Good match!" from someone who just dived 1v5 with no defensive cooldowns.

If they insist on forcing quick chat, I would also like a "stop feeding the enemy team" button, since "fall back and retreat" doesn't get through to most people. Everyone thinks they're a superhero that can take on the whole team by themselves, and then you're guaranteed to lose because the other team always has the upper-hand.

Alternatively I spam Good Match! when my warrior rushes in at the start of the game and dies in 2 gcds without pressing so much as a recuperate or guard. That level of return to monke isnt gonna get better when they res.

My favorite is when players chase an enemy through the backline. Had a team where 3 of my teammates chased this dude and then when the enemy team respawned those 3 were nowhere near the crystal and now its a 4v2 clean sweep....thanks, hope you all enjoyed killing that 1 lone player in the backline that was zero threat to anyone.

Your team doesn't read your quick chats as it is. More expansive chat won't do anything but make you feel slightly more like you tried and expose everyone else to a toxic wasteland. Again, Feast happened. We know what unrestricted chat looks like. It's bad.

If it was something like more expansive markers/symbology for stuff like spread out/close in/etc, sure, but opening up chat? No. Won't change anything.

Yes and No. I had someone use those "target macros" that count down and junk and while they're obnoxious as hell they got the job done and people couldn't ignore them and we won the fight by focusing our efforts.

More options will always be better than less, and right now we have far too few to properly manage our team. I'm so tired of not being able to get someone to help me when I'm getting ganked in the back line because "attacking <t>" is too often used during the crystal push/fighting specific targets so people don't know that I really mean "Help me the NIN is taking my lunch money"

I guarantee you if they enable chat in CC, this will be followed by reports of a massive ban wave as 5% of the population on each server gets banned for toxic conduct.

I think its safe to say it might be awhile before we see any form of chat.

I would love to see a pre and post-match chat at the very least for coordination purposes, but I suppose that would be going against the direction SE has planned (used for flaming, etc.).

People found a way to be toxic without being able to type and you want to give them more freedom? They gave us a chance at we told them we're not mature enough as a community to not be toxic in PvP.

To be fair, a lot of the toxic quickchat is because players can't actually type out or get the point across what they are trying to communicate. It's ironic that they removed chat to prevent toxicity, only to amplify the amount of people that misuse the quickchat for exactly that lol. Just proves that people will always find ways around the system. A lot of the irritation is not being able to correct mistakes from your team or get information across, and correcting said behavior doesn't have to be done in a toxic way btw~. The fact that they have received so many tickets on pvp and was forced to make a statement just proves that they didn't stop what they were trying to with the quick chat system. I would be willing to bet that allowing people to actually type or make macros for instant callouts would reduces the toxicity more than taking it away has added. Worst case you continue to report the people that are being toxic like what's going on now.

"Fall back and regroup" Okay, but why are we falling back since our team is already here? Oh, the enemy Dark Knight popped their limit break and we are wasting a ton of resorces on someone we can't kill? They also managed to drag us all into a salted earth and a White Mage laser beamed us to death? Dang, the Dark Knight got a Quietus off and fully restored their health during that stun also? Why didn't someone call that out!? A ninja has limit break up and a few of us are already low health? Half the party is down and Leeroy is over here trying to 1 vs 5 and gets melted by the enemy team? Fall back and regroup doesn't really get the point across most of the time.

Ok, not even you believe that.

If there was a chat, the insults and blaming will be every game, you cannot be that naïve, we have all played LoL or Dota or similar. With chat, it will be the war. People AFK at base triggering the team because they didnt help, others typing while the only sane parson is under crystal defending...

No thanks, chat will be the end of PvP, it will be such disaster they will remove the ranked system.

That is precisely the issue! For me, at least, I get pissed specifically because I can't communicate with my team in a meaningful way. I see a dragoon LB going off and nobody on my team is guarding? Let me do *something* about it like godDAMN. It's frustrating how limited the quick chat is for a "competitive" game mode. Yes, there will be more people venting unfiltered thoughts, but the benefits can't be ignored. And clearly quick chat isn't doing what it was supposed to since they had to put out this whole statement on toxicity.

No. Absolutely not.

Try playing League for a bit. 100% of the meaningful communication is done through pings. Chat is always a dumpster fire. Always.
There's no reason to expect it to be any different here.
You don't have time in combat to type out meaningful commands, and between the brevity of the matches and their strategic simplicity,
there isn't really any need for a significant volume of text outside of combat either.
Chat would just encourage players to sit in spawn flaming their teammates instead of participating in comeback victories.
I'm all for the addition of more Quick Chat options, but opening team chat up would have purely negative results.

In the 30 seconds before matches and during the 20 seconds it takes to respawn, you can plan out something fairly easily. Free chat wouldn't ONLY have negatives, if the dev team added a quick mute feature, like the video game you mentioned has. I stand by free chat having more potential benefit than the downsides

i think this is also to facilitate fair play with console players, who would find it harder to type during a match. You find similar ping systems in other cross platform PvP games.

Plan out what? CC has zero strategic depth and very little tactical depth.
The plan is push the crystal, and target macros are superior in every way to calling priorities in spawn before you see enemy positioning.
Chat for CC would be 100% downside. I want my teammates playing the match and trying to win, not sitting in spawn having a dialogue about whose fault it is that the first engagement went south.

Simple fix, allow open chat before the gates open and only at end of game, but we know the client isn't set up to be able to work like this.
