I'm sorry, but he would have just continued barbaric systems perpetuating MMO masochism. Good riddance. Never missed him. FFXI is having a great time with him right now though. :)

Tanaka just stepped into Eorzea like a N64 Mario painting.

The only thing that keeps me going is the hope that I one day will find his proxy mob and just poop on it for 3 weeks straight until he drops "Heartfelt Apology" and "/Display Tail On" key items.

I get that, but he left a long time ago, so hence why I dont get.

And I do think it was Tanaka's fault, not that "the game was rushed out" because when you look at how it is now and then how many changes were removed.

Tanaka wanted Fatigue, Physical Level, and many more systems. I dont think the game would be half as good as it is now if it followed Tanaka's road, 2.0 wouldn't even exist and we wouldnt have the glimmer of hope we see known as "Coming in 2.0!".

I know the problem this post was made two years ago but it got stuck in the intertubes with some guys porn and just poped up now.

I remember when he said this was going to be an MMORPG with no level progression. Gave us two things to level. - -;

Tanaka is a great producer, but I believe it was both him and his higher ups who dropped the bomb on this game. Even if he had all the time in the world, he would of still had these abysmal systems and had them running on outdated servers "and" would of been using an unstable engine. I don't think a difference would of been made if he released it in 2010 or today, it would of been the same overall.

Who said he ever left? I think he's back there, lurking in the shadows of Hamlet Defense.

Would have preferred it.
It's no fun taking the easy route for these kind of games. The "barbaric" and "masochistic" style at least allowed me to look forward to distant rewards. Still, I'm interested in how this game is going to develop.

He was also the one who originally stated XIV would have no levels, once again if you've actually stepped into the business world you should know how easily and often higher ups interfere and change things, look at what happened with Mass Effect 3, but using your logic you'd say they purposefully side-stepped everything they originally set out to do.

Yay, we agree!

Tanaka's in charge of XI's development currently.

I have full respect for him still and will forever.

He's out of FFXIV wish he could of pushed back the management to hold off on the release but this is how it ended up and that's that. No need to start a thread like this imo, although the image is funny lol.

For many of us FFXI was an incredible gaming experience, whether it was too hard or too unforgiving for you or not.
Not sure where Tanaka would have taken this game if he had the time he needed but ridiculing him because of FFXIV's launch given the circumstances behind it is bad form.
