The Ranking system has made me just about quit Ranked altogether

There is no worse feel than spending all day progressing through the obnoxiously larger rank levels of Platinum and up only to lose all your progress due to a bad streak. I have no control over who I am grouped with or against. Even were I the best player in the world, I can't carry a team that either isn't trying, isn't focusing on anyone, isn't using their defensives, and is just altogether playing badly.

There is no healthy way to grind to Crystal. You MUST devout absurd amounts of your own free time every single day if you want to get there within the forseeable future. And even then, you can spend an entire day and just be one win away from ranking up, only to suffer a horrid losing streak that takes you all the way back down, invalidating your entire day's worth of time and effort.

Some people have said "well we can't just make your progress permanent else we'd have so many people reaching Crystal", to which I respond: So what? What is your point? Why is that a problem? Take away the garbage rank decay, and people still need to actually win to get to Crystal. Due to the 5 v 5 format, there is no way a person could ever be carried, so if they manage to reach Crystal it's a testament to their own capacity as a player. Obviously the RNG factor is still there, but at least you still aren't going to get far if you're actually a terrible player.

This a garbage, indefensible system that encourages extremely unhealthy playtime to stand a chance to rank all the way up. There is no logical reason for this besides padding sub time. This is garbage, it adds nothing of value to the experience in fact it detracts from it, it doesn't make it harder, it just makes it a thousand times more frustrating and luck-based whether you actually made progress today or had several hours of your time and effort completely invalidated. It doesn't make it more fun, it doesn't make it more rewarding, it is a pure waste of time and absolutely nothing else.

This is actually making me hate this new PvP mode. I no longer feel any sense of enjoyment from this. Even if I get past Platinum all the way to Crystal I won't be like "OMG I DID IT YAY" I'll be more like "Thank god this crap is finally over". Just take away the rank decay and make our progress permanent. This is a complete and utter waste of time and severely detracts from any enjoyment of the experience.

It sounds like they should stop making thinly-veiled time-wasting systems to artificially pad out sub times at the expense of the player's own enjoyment and actually make the mode fun and not a massive-time sink dependant heavily on RNG. That's what the series malmstones is for.

I mean im in kinda the same boat, except i have years of ranked LoL behind me so my mental is alot more tolerant probably. I dont play ranked for fun, i play ranked to win. Every game is treated like theres someone with a gun behind me saying you die if you lose. Thats me in any game honestly. The minute you put "ranked" in something competitive it stops being a for fun activity and becomes maximum tryhard.

I hear your point. This is a scenario where you have to detract the fun from one of two groups. Either
a) you make achieving crystal feel absolutely meaningless to alot of people as anyone can get there or
b) you make some people upset because they for whatever reason are unable to climb to that rank.

If you think that group a in this scenario are dumb, that's your prerogative. But as someone who belongs to group a while enjoying my stay in gold ranking at the moment I can say that I would not be playing in such a system as you suggest.
I suggest you find something else to enjoy in the game for a while (or find another game!) if you're feeling that bad about it right now. I'm pretty sure I could never make it to crystal, but I think it's cool there are people who can

Those don't increase my rank at all those are just for currency used for certain rewards. There is no way to rank up besides being good and praying you don't get a bad team makeup and lose whatever progress you just made that day.

That is legitimately dumb though. Why does that matter? A bad player isn't hitting Crystal because 4 other people can't carry 1 dead weight against 5 actually competent players. This current system just artificially gates people from ranking up who should have if not for bad luck. If I am a good player, and I won, and made progress, I should not lose that progress. There is no defense for this at all. Progress should be permanent, if I spend all day progressing through the rank only to lose due to a bad streak thanks to teammates who are just bad or not trying, than that just maens I wasted my time. It feels bad. It does not feel good. When I almost hit Diamond only to lose several games in a row and rank all the way back down to the bottom, I do not think to myself "Wow this is fun, I sure enjoyed losing all this progress!". No I get extremely tilted and want to alt F4. It does not make my experience better, it actually reduces my enjoyment of the game. I would significantly enjoy this game more if it was not this way.

There is no defense for this system. The one and only reason it exists is to artificially pad sub time at the expense of the player's enjoyment. Stop. Defending. It.

It increases your malmstone rank. That one doesn't drop. Your series rank shows your time dedication clearly. What are you trying to prove with your competitive rank?

What does getting Global Elite in CS prove? or Challenger in LoL? etc. Most of them dont have meaningful rewards. Its the persuit of being better than other people, and thats about it.

That's what I'm getting at. Only reason I grinded to crystal was to get the crystal border. If everyone got crystal just for participating I wouldn't have bothered. It's just a border.

I mean, what this game is missing is a ranked group queue, even if takes longer to find a match when compared to soloQ. Like come on, this is an MMORPG, it doesn't matter if Yoshi said RPG comes before MMO or whatever, PvP is and always will be more fun with friends, such a wasted opportunity that boggles the mind. Not to mention that some class would have a much better chance to shine in coordinated group play, DRK being one.

I agree with you to an extent. Personally I wouldn't care if they took away rank decay since rank is rather pointless, but I could see how that would upset a lot of people. A middle ground would be something like a MVP system that rewards those who perform the best on either team. Like who did the best out of all 7 categories or something.

From here, they could make it so the MVP of the losing team doesn't get a rank decay. The MVP on the winning team could either get an additional star, or not lose a star if they lose their next game (regardless of getting MVP in the next game or not). Something along the lines of this would be much appreciated by most I think. Since it would reward the best effort at least.

Secrets to winning RNG lotto? Because im like 342 games deep playing a bit more hard than on and off and I cant move at all from the depths of plat hell.

It's easier to get into Crystal than it is to get into the top tier in any PvP ranking system I've ever seen in any game. You get extra stars for win streaks and you can't de-rank out of a tier.
It's actually much too easy, which is why Crystal is already becoming a cesspool.

You've completely missed the point of what rank is supposed to indicate in a competitive environment. It's not supposed to be something you "grind out". The problem is your mentality, not the system.
If you're not enjoying ranked play, play casual or don't PvP. If SE wants to improve ranked play, they'll have to make ranking up harder, not easier, so it's not going to be your cup of tea.

The real problem is the matching making of jobs, needs to change to tank, healer 2 melee 1 ranged. This way at least there's more skill to ranked. wont even go on about job balance we have to live with it for months, paying for broken game mode GO SE you nailed making money of us!

How about the legit players who have to deal with cheaters, win traders, and smurf accounts on the lower ranks? I say the higher the rank the more you risk, if you are that good, you should play mandatory 5 matches a day. and if you lose a match you go down a rank ( e.g. diamond 4 to diamond 3). If you do not play a PvP match that you lose all-stars. if your crystal and you lose a single match or don't play the required matches that day, you fall out of crystal rank. so there is no hiding out until you have to play a match no win trading or anything else, if there is a cheater it will be found out real fast. and for an extra measure 1 account per IP address per household. do not care if multiple ppl are playing in the same house. It will weed out alot of crap that is going on right now.

Just be lucky I guess? I went from unranked to Gold in 7 losses (mostly at end of silver games) on WHM and then winstreaked to mid Plat from Gold 4 on SCH. After that I played a lot of BRD with a bit of SCH in the mix and with very few losses streaked to mid Diamond.

There the real grind begun and I had to try like 6 times at rank up game and falling back to mid Diamond twice. It took about 70-something wins in total to get to Crystal.

Few other friends finished their grind and also agreed that Diamond too longest (mostly over 100 wins total), before that you have more carry potential but it will weaken the higher you get. There will still be unwinnable games and the game does try its hardest to cut your win streak down (my first Silver to Gold rank up attempt was in full high Plat game).

It must just be that im playing only SMN, it doesnt feel like I have persistent agency in a game. I can help spike finish someone off if someone else made them low but considering my entire kit outside of Ruin is on longish cooldowns i feel like im hoping my team hasnt essentially lost the game before I get to my LB.

Yeah SMN has similar agency to SCH and excels at grinding the enemy team down with all the AoE damage, they are also great counter initiators due the low CD on the bind and being able to charge enemies who overextend. It should be possible to rank up on one, but it's probably harder than the more solo target bursty Jobs since people's teamwork is lacking on lower ranks and they often over commit.
