I'm curious what yoshi p thinks about ffxi as an mmo, or even of he played. I just think it would be interesting to see what his likes and dislikes are and may help us understand the direction he is taking ff14.

Yoshi P likes Theme Parks.
FFXI was more like an S & M Den.
Yoshi-P represents Square-Enix. He can't say what he really thinks.
yoshi-p was the creator of abyssea expansion for XI enough said.
I'm sure he's familiar with FFXI at this point. There's a lot of influence from the game in XIV
Let's also pretend every statement of his hasn't gone through a PR/management-filter.
Your naivety is cute, though.
EDIT: Oh, wait, there were few times during his live letter of the producer when, while under a constant surveillance by his supervisors, he let out a few unplanned tidbits regarding the upcoming contents. Bold move in itself, props to the guy.
and FFVII tooQuote:

That was a sarcasm.
In one interview, he stated that his favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy VII and that he wants to make a MMO as "powerful" as that game was.
lol am just troling no Yoshi-p didnt have any connection to any to any FF game he was appointed in 2004 for Games like Dragon quest and stuff like that and later director of XIV
From what I have read, Yoshi-P hasn't had anything, professionally speaking, to do with any FF game, also I haven't seen anywhere that he played FFXI, but he could just be hiding that.
What is coming in is not "from FFXI" its from Final Fantasy, and other additions, Tanaka did work on FFXI though.
i was gonna say, when they announced they were taking tanaka off of XIV they were bringing the current director of XI to take the reins of XIV ( which was yoshi at the time ). ill look more into this later on if no one else does. but im pretty sure yoshi had a part in XI, since thats what SE said ;p
don't care what you say about Yoshi o.O hes is kicking ass and taking names... hell all the development team is... I can definitely say though they are the light in the darkness for this game and we should follow them to hell and back o.o/ I am 100% behind Yoshi and wish to see his ideas come to fruition o.O as for FFXI only reason people bitch about Abysea is because of the leveling I enjoyed the NM hunting and stuff in it though >.> and I played FFXI for 8 years... I'm a veteran player and I enjoyed a lot of the content... so I'm so sick of people whining =p lets all look forward to the future now k?
to the people claiming that yoshi came over from head of xi you are sadly mistaken. in yoshi's initial producers letter he stated he has never been on the front of any game in the past. he was a programmer in dragon quest and stated himself he had not even played xi on another occasion.
per yoshi:
"No doubt there are very few, if any, among you who have ever heard the name Naoki Yoshida. To be sure, I have never been in the fore on any of the titles I have worked on in the past."

i'm not saying yoshi is bad or anything like that so keep your flames to yourselves, but wanted to stop the lies that i've already seen in this thread before people start with he's been in charge of every single final fantasy ever and made all of the music for them as well.
The people saying how SE "brought the producer/director from FFXI" are probably just a lil mistaken, because before Tanaka came to FFXIV he was the producer/director from FFXI, just putting that in there.
I think its nice that we have someone who hasnt played FFXI, the devs probably did (we know some worked on it) therefore they can give input from FFXI, and Yoshi-P knows how other MMOs work so he can bring those ideas in. FFXIV will be huge with this mix, I guarentee it :D
Some people care too much about developers... Like these kind of questions are really importaint enough to get Yoshi to take the time and post the answers... How about we stop spamming forums with stuff like this and let the guy do his job....?
I agree with VytasBismarck in some ways. If you dont have something positive to say, or give thanks where it is deserved, or a suggestion to help the developers key into what would make the game better. It does no good. Its pointless to whine and complain if you dont have something constructive to add with it.
And yeah... I want this... I want that.... do you remember?... I want that too! hehe it can be very tempting to bring up those things we loved in past FF games. I am pretty sure Yoshi immersed himself into the genre and mythos that is Final Fantasy when he took on this job.
No-one is perfect. That said. I've liked the improvements to XIV so far. I was on XI for a little while a couple years back but left for XIV when it released.... regretibly in some ways... happily in others. I left XIV for a year and then returned finding it is now a game worthy of my hard earned dollar.
XIV is not XI and in some ways I dont want them to be alike. Tho I do like some of the small allusions to it as it is a Final Fantasy world after all. There are some things I miss. Level Sync and a real "follow" function. But we may be seeing some of the good things we saw back in the day, along with lots of new stuff, in 2.0
So keep up the good work, Yoshi. I applaud you and your team's hard efforts so far. I look forward to 2.0 and I hope things continue to improve and become more enjoyable. You cant please everyone, but you arent supposed to either, keep the game challenging and keep it on the course of having that less broken feeling it had in those early days. Thank you.
Dont get me wrong i think Yoshi is doing an awesome job. I was just wondering what he (or the community) thought would be worth carring over from ffxi. I really enjoyed the open world NM's - the uniqueness of the zones and the story line. I dont expect him to anwser...Im sure this is a very busy time with E3 and 2.0 and im sure we will all have a better understanding of the direction soon. :)
So what I got from this thread was...
People smoke crack in high volume, I think you know who you are.
