[Suggestion]: Remove Role Restrictions for Glamour

Glamour is a massive part of FFXIV's sense of personal progression and a big part of our community, and I think I speak for many of us when I say that players should be allowed to glamour equipment that is otherwise restricted to a different role (i.e. the ability glamour "of Striking" gear to a Red Mage).

From my own experience as someone who plays as a Healer and Physical Ranged, I am constantly disappointed in "of Aiming" and "of Healing" gear, not because it's inherently bad, but because it's just not my particular style. Almost every single time we get new equipment, I'm far more enamored by "of Striking" "of Scouting" and "of Maiming" gear and would love to mix and match to fit personal style on the jobs I enjoy playing. This is already something that's done regularly on NPC characters regardless of whichever class or job they are given.

I have seen that in the past this was discussed negatively for reasons like "it wouldn't make sense to see a Black Mage wearing armor," but a Black Mage already can wear armor as there are many examples of armored equipment that has no gear restrictions, such as the Final Fantasy I Warrior of Light's equipment. We can see Paladins wearing a chicken costume, White Mages wearing Squall Leonhart's outfit, Ninjas in a wedding dress, and so many other examples of unorthodox glamour, that I don't see any reason why we need to continue restricting jobs from using other role's equipment for glamours.

Some limitations: It's understandable that weapons would be an exception to this QoL improvement as they are directly linked to the animations of each job and would start to look very unusual if, for example, you were able to glamour a Warrior's Axe to look like an Astrologian's astrolobe. That much is understandable.

I could also understand wanting to keep job-specific artifact gear as exclusive to that respective job for thematic reasons.

Alternative solution: If unrestricting all gear is out of the question, can we please see the return of level 1, unrestricted replica gear? In the past, two sets of equipment, the Sky Rat and Sky Pirate's gear lines were given replica variations that are equippable by any job and thus a Scholar can equip the Replica Sky Pirate's jacket of Fending, for example. There are many very popular sets of gear that are worthy of receiving the same treatment, such as the YorHa sets from Nier: Automata, the Moonward tomestone sets representing four of the main Final Fantasy IV characters, or other popular options.

I've been thinking this as well, I would love to glamor other job pieces into my sets. Because some of it looks very good.

I would like to see them trial it out in a small scale first. Maybe release the next few glams as "all classes" when put in the glamour dresser.

Then maybe try just de-coupling some of the roles, let all the Healers/Casters share glams, Ninja/Ranged share glams, Tanks/Melee (non-NIN) share glams.

Is there some kind of "negative consequence" you're worried about if they were to just unrestrict gear from all roles? Besides, the pairings you listened almost always have the same gear between sets anyway just with a different color scheme. The point is to allow people to wear the glamour they want because that has no bearing on gameplay and only affects an individual's customization options.

I'd even be willing to buy a cash shop item that let you remove the role restriction from a piece of gear for glamour usage.

The glamour dresser does nothing to determine what the glamour can be applied to. It's just a fancy way of attaching the same "this gear piece is glamoured as X" note that is applied by the older prism system, prior to checking whether your current job is able to wear X and the glamour can be displayed.

You can't let other roles wear the glamour without actually letting them wear the gear.

Under the current system it does cause problems when gear is opened up to jobs it isn't designed for, because the recommendation system will equip it automatically if nothing better is on hand. Gearing tanks under 50 (where they have access to light DPS and mage gear as well as their designated armour) is very messy as a result of this.

I've mentioned this a few times, but them managing to unlock dyeing on the EW AF gear without resorting to duplicate items felt like an important development, hopefully uncoupling being able to equip vs just Glamour something is another thing they're working on figuring out?

The whole gear system is messed up mate before they can even think of doing this they need to fix that.
That would require a lot of work or resources that they might not think is worth bothering with, not that Im against it just don't see this happening anytime soon.
But keep hope alive i guess.

Im all for the removal of all glam restrictrions! :D Maybe add when you move anything into the glamour it become "useless" in regards to skills, so its only a glam item, maybe set it all to lvl 1 once you add it to glam dresser?

It's not what the dresser does. It's a fancy system for arriving at the same result as applying glamours the old way with prisms. It doesn't transform how the glamour works once applied.

Not sure if you know Everquest, its an OOOOLD mmorpg.
I play a warden there ( type of healer/dps combo)
I cannot use a bow, or duelwield, or a two handed sword in combat because of my class
BUT i can glamour it (its not called that there)
When I add it to a glam dresser (again not the name of it there but almost similiar effect) i get a warning saying that the item now will only have a purely cosmetic value.

thus my druid can wear bows/duel wield but its ONLY cosmetic. Some animations lack as I attack with a staff so i offcourse cannot shot arrows but its an old game and I bet FF14 could work something out that works better than it does in Everquest
