Smn 6.1 new changes, how are they?

Smn Players with experience, how are the 6.1 changes? (Especially the CD 3.0 & potency changes)

CD & potency changes were just done, so Smn need to use less ruin 3 fillers, till next Bamamut / Phoenix is up?

Over all dps remains the same? Or is it a more afterall? (Not just due to less ruin 3 fillers?)

But Sm have a bit more movemt time, thanx to the CD changes on the instant casts?

Virtually no change how SMN plays. There is the slightest of pps increase with Ruby Rite and Searing Light being castable during Demi Bahamut is better QoL that allows Sps players to not drift.

It’s just to get the people who were using swiftcast for a tiny but obvious gain to stop doing that. You now can use swiftcast on res or snapshotting Slipstream under certain raid buffs instead of 0.9 pps or whatever it broke down to before.

If you find the class boring or to go against what made it fun in the past for obvious reasons, nothing has changed.

Nothing has changed play wise it’s the same brainless boring job. Dps wise we didn’t seem to have moved and are still in the lower bottom range 3-4 lowest dps class currently.

U could state the job has become even a little easier as searing light does not need a carbuncle anymore which needed some planning before.

I honestly don’t even know what to play. I’ve always played a caster or healer in MMOs, but the rez tax on SMN and RDM is too great for me to enjoy.

I was considering SAM so I could play a selfish DPS, but sounds like that might be a bad idea now lol.

So not much of a difference.., aside of QOL with like Searing Wind..


But than devs also want Smn players to use swiftcast more often on rezes?.. but Smn can barely rez half way - two thirds into a fight (mp issue, by just doing the roto)
... unless the devs want lucid dreaming to become a fix part of the Smn rota :/ (than give us more dps.

QOL is nice,.. but double casters are gonna die out, unless one is a Blm or the players are gud like a static, or have gud gear.. (PFs have very mixed players)

.. Seen groups of Rpr, Brd, Rdm & Smn fail on dps checks on P3S and P4S / Part 1, with deaths, .. but replace either of the two casters with a melee, with even a bit more deaths, seem them have less issues to make it thru P3S P4S / Part 1 ( (during the earlier days, where gear wasn't high yet in PFs)

If double casters can sometimes have issues on new & difficult content, don't want to think of double ranged

(Though those impressions of double casters, without Blm, could have had other issues, than being 2x casters(

We cleared with double phys-ranged week one. It's still possible despite yes, needing to be a bit cleaner. Not ideal, but not a detriment in the right hands. Playing what you enjoy/are good at, is still fine. Perhaps the absolute statistical worst comp would've been especially difficult, but double-ranged alone doesn't drop below that line.

As for SMN - it's fine. The Searing Light change was the QoL it needed. I've heard from select people that it's taken the optimisation of "moving the pet" away but I honestly find that to be less about optimisation and more just an extra step to get the same result as using any other 2 minute buff, so I don't really understand that take personally. The ghosting has also stopped as a result, since pet AI is still atrocious to this day. Less reliance on it, the better. An argument can be made about job identity and yes the carbuncles purpose is reduced a little but it's worth it in this case imo.

Anyone who says pet AI is still atrocious at this point are the people who have never used the Place command in the entirety of the job’s lifetime. 90% of the problems with pets are the same as any other AI in this game. Whether that’s Squadrons, Trusts, or even old bosses. Melee range attacks lead to the entity chasing their target down, interrupting their flow constantly. For pets and Trusts/Squadrons in particular, tiny micro movement can force them to readjust around you for no reason other than they like staying on one of a set number of points around your character, relative to your facing. Ranged autoattacks, however, avoid this problem, and if with few exceptions if you aren’t circling their target around them they will fire on point. Once that auto attack state is established actual pet abilities will work as intended, as long as you have told them to stand still somewhere, otherwise they -might- cling to your hips if you overload their queue.

Nowadays, it takes me spamming all of eos’s cooldowns and running across the zone to make that happen, apart from Fey Union, which just ignores all of that nonsense and works as intended, and neatly makes sure everything else does too.

The Resummons and melee range are the primary problems with pets these days, not the AI itself. Knowing how to make them work is an entirely separate issue I’m happy to levy at the devs for failing to teach players something that basic.

My opinion as a top 100 Summoner is that it is mostly the same, very mundane job, but removing Searing coming from Carbuncle removes placement optimization from P1S and P4S part 2 specifically, where now you cannot position your Carbie to hit the entire party with the raid buff, making it overall a nerf to a more experienced player.

Not much has changed but it feels great during Ifrit instead of clipping GCD every time you cast without swift. I know some people might not like the change or thinks it changes very little I disagree. It changes how that phase feels. Which felt a tiny bit clunky before, imo. It felt like wannabe FIV with less of an impactful feel. Plus I thought the needing swift to optimize DPS slightly was dumb anyway.

That being said, the change to searing light? Both amazing and terrible. It’s amazing because it makes optimizing in fights like UWU absolutely gorgeous because you equip SPS and go fast and don’t need to worry about SL not being available. But on the other hand it’s terrible because it removes the slight strategy and stuff and what little use Carbuncle had outside of throwing their shield.
