What is the long range purpose of this game?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to know or find the long range purpose of this game? I searched 2.0 documentation, but I don't really see anything, just how most of the mechanics of this game will change.

I know we currently have battles for gear and weapons, but for what purpose? What is there to do with this gear/weapons other than to stand in town and show it off?

Are there plans for things such as Campaign or Dynamis, or Limbus or anything of SUBSTANCE that is planned to be implemented in this game? Please steer me in the right direction! I need purpose people!!

Another one of these, Ian? :( Of course they're planning some advanced end game content like the defense of Ishgard against the dragons and the Crystal Tower, plus pvp (just to name a couple things we've been teased with).

The point of the game is to have fun, but right now we're kind of just waiting for them to get it ready for us. Why even post something like this?

If you use that logic "we have battles for gear and weapons, but for what purpose?" why play any games?

So, you are tired of doing nothing but battles for gear and weapons, and ask if we are getting something with purpose like Dynamis, and Limbus, which are nothing more than battles for gear and weapons . . . .?

Honestly, the purpose of any game is merely entertainment. Beyond that, they have already spoke of several activities which will be added in game. I'm sure we'll see more info the closer we get to release, but let's be real. No matter what they release, unless it's storyline, it's going to be battles for gear and weapons.

Had to chime in... As others have said, the purpose of any game including this one is to entertain.

Ok, thanks Kap, that gives me some hope, lol. I was just not feeling any purpose atm, I suppose, I tried scouring 2.0 plans again to get myself motivated and then it appeared like there wouldn't be anything substantial until well after Jan 2013. Thank you for the inspiration ^^

I guess I meant something like CoP or something, like that to graduate through and then have access to another area.

Oh please, I was asking a serious question, I was looking over the 2.0 roadmap and wondered if anyone knew what content would be added, is that so horrible?

I wanted to know if we have something like CoP missions or Campaign stuff or anything along those lines, as I did not see it in the 2.0 stuff outside of PvP.

The "spine" of an MMO is it's main story mission. It's essentially the the core element, it's what defines the universe in which you play in and the purpose of your virtual existence.

That's the direct answer to your question, main story.

The long range purpose is hard to determine without a physical disk. Provided you didn't download your copy of the game, you can determine the long range purpose by taking the disk outside and giving it a good throw. I suggest placing your middle finger in the disk's opening, then using a swift horizontal toss, releasing it from your finger. You'll find its range to be at least 20 feet.

Also, lol@ Campaign, Dynamis, and Limbus being referred to as activities of "substance." I guess OP is pining for a good ole fashioned long-term gear grind.
