Pre 2.0 Launch world attack/boss.

I am talking about a full scale assault similar to Garlean attacks now, but it is massive. Takes days to fend them off(not that you have to participate or be there the whole time. just be careful out in the world) But at the end of the initial flood of garleans you get to fight a staff controlled boss. Maybe even White raven, or that other guy in black. This guy should be way over powered so it takes the server to even try. He will have AOE's that kill level 50 alliances in 5-6 attacks. He will have a huge Huge amount of HP, but cannot heal himself. The lower levels will have a place in battle during the boss portion by keeping the garlean conjurers from getting close to him.

To keep people updated, there can be a live feed for each server focused on him, or can simply be posted on lodestone when milestones of the battle/boss fight are reached.

This is just an idea, but I would love for a server wide participation event to send this client/server out with a bang(literally the traffic could make them overheat :rolleyes: )

Any thoughts on an idea like this? Mine is just one example but something similar would be welcome just as well.

A server wide event has been done before on other games. One very successful example would be the Obsidian event that counted down to the giant insectoid dungeon in WOW, so large it had its own special mounts for use traversing in the dungeon, and guilds could compete for a hard to finish questline, in order to access the dungeon early as well as gain a unique, missable insect mount.

Didn't play WoW besides the free month on release, but I saw a youtube video of the event you are mentioning, and that is what I have in mind.
The boss doesn't have to be a staff member since each server would pop the boss at a different time I suppose, but I think it could make it harder since it would be a real person.

Since there is only 10 servers, and I was thinking the boss would take more than a two or three days to beat so all time zones would get to experience knocking down some of his HP; the boss would be automated so the staff can sleep but at prime times for each region the couple of staffers running the character across different servers could move around more freely and do some more strategic play. then after a while switch it back to automate.

Also since all regions would experience it have what the boss is saying be shown in each language(english players wont see japanese or german etc) each time it talks it will be shown in players native language like an NPC so it would have to be canned messages. Not like the news reporters who I've only met in french and japanese but never english...

Also for helping in the event you could add a couple of achievements.
Killing a certain number of garlean lowlies
Dealing atleast a small portion of damage to the boss
and keeping the boss from being cured any by conjurers.

The awards for these could be issued by each grand company. And it could be some sort of magitek ring(nothing amazing maybe a level 30 piece just to show you were there.) but since it is magitek have it be a unique stat not seen on any other current equipment type

Take it one step further and hand out uniforms to participants and make a war out of it.

Good idea nonetheless, would like to see something like that happen.

Oh yeah! uniforms! what were they calling it? united grand companies or something... I wonder what that is

While something like this sounds pretty awesome, I doubt the server limitations would let them do something like this (only a certain number of players viewable on screen at one time, server lag, etc.)

Great idea but wont happen because server sucks, hence 2.0.

I considered the server limitation thing, and yeah it's not possible. but with 2.0 launch perhaps we can have content like this? I would really like the server to come together for something fun, especially a boss that is way over powered.

I initially thought hamlet defense was going to be like this, but a smaller scale. It wasn't what I imagined at all(single party)
I thought it would be atleast 2-3 parties/alliance content. that was a major let down for me.

They can still do something like this for the end of server except have 3 major bosses. Each grand company will have to fight it in their respected zones. While not everyone would be visible -- they wouldn't really need to be

Dalamud comes near impact to Eorzea and sends out a giant of dalamud (like Giant of Babil - FFIV) where players need to go inside the giant to fight against the Imperials

I like the idea, but we can't even stand around in one city without causing the server to lag, let alone the entire server attacking a boss. Maybe one day...

I'd like to see a huge, realtime event like the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj, but unfortunately if they don't have the new server code in place by the end of 1.23 it's just not going to happen, due to the 40 character display limit. If they don't have an in-game event, they should definitely make sure to release one hell of a cutscene leading into 2.0.

I think a cutscene is a given...

Looking at the original roadmap though, SE does use the phrase 'Radical changes to the in game world' for the period between 1.23 and 2.0... although this could be another not quite accurate use of words as we've seen before, i think we're going to see something significant going on. Not just some instanced battle etc. The mega boss thing is probably impossible on the current system, but having waves of high level Garlean soldiers and Armors flooding the main zones seems realistic. Maybe they'll throw in some extra chipset pieces around as well, like small open world camps etc from both sides.

I like the ideas guys. its a shame the client/server cannot handle it though... 2.0 needs some epic battles. Anyone else think hamlet defense will be upgraded to something thats more than just 1 or 2 parties in an instance?

If 2.0 is a success and lots of subscribers hit and ps3 version sells well we could see an expansion where we are going to other continents that are currently under Garlean occupation, and what I described in the OP is one of the scenarios to freeing that land of garlean control.

I think live events that you have to be subscribed for in order to experience it should continue in 2.0 as it keeps the world fresh. I still remember when that prophet Urianger was showing up at camps talking crazy and giving you lots of cool boosts. Later he started to appear in cutscenes and you found out he was one of the good guys. That is pretty small thing, but if you weren't there you are never going to experience it. I think they could continue with things like this small and big.

So thumbs up for 'Live Events' continuing in the future!

Well, Not hoping that much due to server limit...

But I would like to see hordes of garlean soldiers making a siege on the 3 cities where everyone who login can only be in their gc cities helping the NPCs to defend the city.

A huge war where players that have died once in the siege are not allowed to participate in battle again.

but they are still be able to participate by doing DoH/DoL request from quartermasters.

NPCs will spawn faster when some requirements are met.
(Helping to gear up a recruit...)

Thinking of equipment based:
- Bsm,Arm -> more glad, mrd , lnc Npcs
- carp,lw -> more arc
- wvr, gsm -> more thm
- carp, wvr -> more cnj
- lw, gsm/bsm -> more pug
- alc/cul -> gives more hp/mp and other buffs to npcs

Cant really think of how DoL can participate but making repairs to walls or delivering supplies to respective NPCs to activate the bonuses listed (Supplies will be subtracted from the amt the DoH submitted).

Cities will have a hp meter to show how far it will be captured and DoL which help making repairs will add abit of HP to it.

Be it if the city wins or falls, it can be used as a starting point for other contents in 2.0.

Well since this is obviously wanted, but not going to happen with current client/server. Would you guys/gals welcome this sort of content for 2.0? Perhaps whenever they finish the story arc where Garleans are the bad guys. After that we can have a new arc where Lalafells get tired of being punted then become evil WITH RED GLOWING EYES! and its us Lalafells vs. the other races. I want to play the role of the bad guy.. the bad little guy. Go ahead take my idea SE everyone knows its been a long time coming. <evil laugh>

why would you even have a staff controlled npc? anyway, server cant handle non instanced massive things.

Staff would be so it isn't so scripted, and could shout things at us. It was just an idea of it being a staffer part time since the battle would take days. Imagine your enemy says your name after it kills you.. "Puny Majidah! your <whm name here> cannot help you!" BAM you die! but its just an idea... it can be scripted. but if it was staffer when it finally got low on HP it could run to another location closer to where its conjurers are to aid him in heals.

and I know this client/server cannot but I am hoping 2.0 infrastructure can, so now I was asking if people would like to see a server wide battle like this in the future when things aren't so... 1.0ish
