Crystalline Conflict : Ranked Worries

Good day to all of you, i hope you are all having a good time and are excited for the release of Patch 6.1

I had a brief look at the Pre-release patch notes and was struck by their decision of the queue restriction for Ranked Crystalline Conflict.
Specifically :
"Register solo via the Duty Finder. Results will influence your ranking in Crystalline Conflict."

I would really like for Square Enix to potentially understand that this might not be something everyone wants. A lot of us play FFXIV or even other games (PVP oriented ones in this case) with friends.
I've been loving to queue into Ranked modes with a friend of mine as it allowed us to comfortably communicate and the such and i really think that locking the queues to solo only will hurt the Ranked system altogether.

If anything, Square Enix could at least try to implement it alike other PVP based games, implementing either a two queue system : Solo Queue and Flex (any team matchup size ) or just allow for at least a Duo to be allowed as premade for it.

Climbing the ranks all by yourself isn't a fun experience for everyone, when most of FFXIV bases itself around overcoming challenges with friends.

I'd honestly say that ranked might be a big pass for me due to this and i really hope Square adresses this or at least confirms their stance on it.

They want to prevent pre-mades most likely and there probably isn't enough data to support having a ranked (party) mode. The feast used to have a ranked party match mode but it soon fell to the wayside.

Could team ranked mode have failed just due to the lack of players playing the game back in those days? There seems to be a huge interest in the game now, almost everyone I know was looking forward to this new PvP.

I agree, there definitely is a lack of data to show it being a good idea. That said, it'd be a huge misstep (in my opinion) to not allow the Ranked queue to have at most a 2-player premade limit.
But i also see that doing so would possibly make the communication part of it all unfair.
My examples here would be Dead by Daylight and League of Legends. Dead by Daylight being infamous for its possible issues regarding 4-man premades supposedly making them much harder encounters than any other and League just having dedicated queues for the Solo/Duo and "Flex" (any premade team size allowed).

XIV having a split of Ranked queues would be unsustainable solely due to PvP not being that popular already (Feast specifically) and as much as Crystalline Conflict is coming up , it might be the best stuff you've ever done PvP wise but might just drop off just like Rival Wings did.

So yeah, my proposed solution :
Crystalline Conflict Ranked having a 2-man premade size max
Includes a Rank difference cap (cannot be X ranks appart from your premade to avoid MMR cheesing)

Granted it might just make encounters with premades potentially harder to face, but their design here is very much alike a competitive PvP experience.
I just hope that they might at least come up to us and say "no it won't happen" or acknowledge it so that we might set our expectations right.

Did they say if we get 2 mans in casual? 2 man casuals should be fine. Since you are going to get the random stomped anyways. But you are 100% 2 out of 5 is clearly not fair. One would think they would be on discord, that is an advantage before the game even starts.





But we are getting 2 seasons in one patch cycle. So that might mean if popular enough team queue could happen. Team might work better if it is locked except for a few days or time focusing everyone to try to play together.

I think eventually they'll bring back PVP teams but as of right now, there isn't enough interest and information for them to make a decision either way. It's going to be up to us the players on how we handle what we've been given.

Genuinely just found out now that CC isnt even a thing you can queue in with friends for Casual.
Genuinely gutted to see them lock even the casual list for this.

I also understand why you'd think so , but as much as it gives a slight advantage , every single MOBA and other titles they have taken inspiration from has this feature to an extent. Solo/Duo queues are generally always present and i do not see why it would be a problem besides people saying it'd be "OP"

I also suspect it's to stop organised parties sweeping the floor with matched parties in Ranked Play. Casual's okay, because if you're getting thrashed, it's over quickly with minimal loss, whereas losing progress in Ranked would suck.

All these people ask for party que, would they be happy if it placed a debuff? Clearly the numbers show it is unfair. But SE has the tools to balance and numbers to show how much more coordinated teams do. Not sure they want to put put in the work. But if the debuff seemed big enough that premades win % never climbed over 50% I think it would be fair.
