Updating Veteran Rewards.

I feel we need some more. Maybe not Endless rewards like how the old system did but... More than the current load we have.

To whit I say we make use of Final Fantasy's VAST history to make veteran rewards.
We have SOME protag outfits. And yet there are so many more FF Protags and Villains to make use of.

So i say we have veteran rewards to make use of the Main Protag and Antag of each FF.
And for those who want rewards in a specific order we can have the ability to choose a "Path" for our veteran reward scheme. These paths being Hero, Villain, Series.
What do these mean? Simple. Hero means you will go through each FF getting the protag outfits first. Then after you go through those then you get the Antagonists outfit. Vice versa for the Villain track. And for Series you go through the FFs in order. So it would be FFI Protag then Antag then FFII and so on and so forth.

"But what about the ones already in the game/on the store?"
A VERY good question. To which I answer ALTERNATE OUTFITS!
For examples Warrior of Light in FFI has two different colorations of his outfit We can use the OTHER Coloration as the veteran reward while the one from the alliance raid stays as is. OR we provide the OTHER helm for it. That is to say the one in the game is the horns forward version and we can have the Horns Upright version added in and possibly his hairstyle added as well. Or in Lightnings case we can use her outfit from Lightning Returns instead of her FFXIII Guardian Corp outfit.
For FFX though I am a bit more stuck. As Tidus doesn't have an alternate outfit that I am aware of. Yuna has a wealth of outfits to draw from with FFX-2 But what about us guys? I'd say Jecht's outfit? As Seymour's makes sense as a Villain outfit.

I'd love to see this system get some updates as I feel there is a lot of value to be had in a way that is more than just "Give players free stuff"
Or as an idea I just had instead of a path system perhaps we receive veteran vouchers and can turn them in for the reward of our choosing. Perhaps even these vouchers can let us buy certain Mogstation items even. Like Snow or Lightning's Outfit. Maybe bottle of Dye, or Fantasia. And then we can have a kind of balance.
Buy the item now with cash a la online store or subscribe and earn the vouchers to buy them later.

And there are more things than just outfits that could be in this system. Hairstyles, signature weapons, ultimate weapons like Lionheart or Cloud's Ultima Sword.

Also when is the aesthetician going to learn the magic of colored contact lenses?

I care so little about "lore" in such things that he could take a few month vacation where he learns magic which lets him properly change most (or preferably all) things on a person.

But then there'd be less fantasia sales and we can't have that.

The simpler answer to the reward scheme would be that instead of receiving "an outfit" we receive a certain amount of tokens at subscription milestones, to spend at a shop that sells the costumes and other less-exclusive items like Fantasias and maybe even Mog Station/seasonal gear. Let people choose which outfit they earn first or if they'd rather spend those tokens on something else entirely.

They stated a good while ago Vet rewards would go to the achievement vender and no new items would go to the veteran system. I would rather see more items go to the achievement vender, just give us some mounts/glams to spend these tokens on!

The reason the Veteran Reward system got gutted was because it reached a point where the requirements to get the highest rewards at the time (FFVIII's Squall Leonhart's outfit from Dissidia, a highly sought-after outfit) was virtually impossible for new players just joining to attain the required rank to get, that only those who had been playing from launch were able to get it (due to the huge length of subscription time required, which especially was impossible to get if paying for subscription by credit card/debit card). So, SE greatly cut down the Veteran Reward ranks to four, and moved most of the gear and items received to the new Achievement Points system.

Accordingly, as Alestorm mentioned SE are not going to add anything new to the Veteran Rewards, as it will either go to the Mogstation/Online Store or Achievement Points. It just makes it fairer for new players.

I get that for the exclusive rewards, but the complete lack of anything non-exclusive after that is still disappointing.

As I was saying earlier, some kind of tokens or item rewards would be nice. Even just gold feathers so you can buy a couple of the expensive dyes or something.

The Achievement points thing sounded like a great idea, but they haven't updated it in forever. They should be adding new stuff a couple times an expansion, at least.

The veteran system was to help encourage players to stay subscribed in a game that was trying to recover from the catastrophe of 1.0. Between that and the days required was getting too large for the later rewards, the system served its purpose and the need to keep updating it went away.

Personally would rather see them reward crysta (the currency for the MogShop).

Need not be too much; maybe like $1/month, or something like $10 per year without pause. Something simple.

I don't care about veteran rewards just for the sake of it. The rewards for being a veteran are that you have done more things in the game than a new player because you've played longer.

I have long since run out of anything to buy with achievement points.

Sure would be nice if I could get stuff like.... pure white dye or whatnot with them, similar to how you can with the extra gold feathers from recruit a friend.

Wasn't the last time that list was updated back in early Stormblood, if not further back than that?

They definitely need to update that stuff, tons of people are sitting on so much of that currency that has no use right now. They could put some of the dyes in there, maybe not mogstation ones but ones from other sources like Firmament - for example.

Which is silly because people have all the stuff long ago now. City of Heroes kept theirs going the entire life of the game and you were rewarded for being a loyal subscriber....which was the whole point.

Why do things HAVE to be exclusive? We get those enough with event titles/items

I'm not sure why you're jumping at me for this. I'm not asking for exclusive things, just talking about what I think they should do instead of giving us nothing because they don't want to introduce additional exclusive things.

I'm saying they should give us non-exclusive things that also come from other sources, so it's a bonus without being unattainable any other way.

Oh wow. I took a 5 years break and nothing really changes. People still say stuff like this

As others mentioned, further rewards were supposed to come from achievements but they've been rather underwhelming on what's available. I like many suggestions in this thread. Give us a good reason to chase those achievements and get those points. Right now we don't really have one.

I wasn't too sad to see veteran rewards go the way of the dodo. It was a concept from older MMOs and just feels outdated in today's MMO landscape.

To be fair: Waiting in this context meant "waiting for 1440 days to get the Squall outfit" - well, a little less because you can pay for 180(?) days in advance, but still... thats almost 4 years of keeping an active sub - and that was only the last veteran reward they added. Had they kept the system, it would have only gone up from there. I can see why they adjusted that - I'm saying this as someone who got the veteran rewards by waiting back in the days (only I did had to wait - having subscribed since ARR beta, I just got the new stuff as soon as it was released since the rewards kinda assumed that you started playing with 2.0).

I very much agree with the sentiment that they should add more stuff to the achievement vendor - they havent really made up for the loss of veteran rewards like they promised they would. But locking stuff behind being subscribed for 4+ years got a bit unreasonable... This isnt "people want everything right now" this is "people dont want to wait for the duration that it takes one to earn a bachelors degree to get a costume".

I think they need to add more things. Even if it's just another place to buy the old gear instead of with hunts - those achievement points need to be good for SOMETHING, surely?

Definitely this! In addition to the WYSIWYG items, I'd love to be able to buy Retainer Fantasias and loot boxes like the GC ones that include emotes and items purchased with currency such as Skybuilder scrips along with the pets and mounts. Character Fantasias would be pretty sweet since achievement points represent real-world time played = subscription time, so why not add them since they got money from us anyway. I wouldn't mind paying 500 tokens or some other reasonably large amount to keep income from Mogstation purchases flowing but take the edge off for people who rarely use them.

Yes, PLEASE!

Veteran Rewards goes against the philosophy of being able to play and take breaks, so they're not likely to ever look at going over this. I don't think anyone new wants to look at a list of veteran rewards and see that they need to be here for x years to get one thing or another. As it is, we get plenty for being around at the current time, with all the events with special loot

Yeah that would be good.
