At the end of the day I really wouldn't care if they changed it, but I feel now more than ever that they need to focus on things the game desperately needs and not hollow gestures of solidarity. But I do understand the appeal currently. The letter has taken on another meaning lately. I'm surprised something hasn't been said by now officially.

They could make it more explicit like "Zodiac", "Brave" or something fun like "Aurum Vale farmer". And maybe extra one for getting all max rank weapons ;)

The title Z in FFXIV has absolutely nothing to do with the real world and what is going on in Russia. It is also a letter. We're not going to cancel part of the Alphabet just because they decided to slap a letter on their military equipment.

I honestly hope they leave it as is. People need to have the intelligence to discern intent. Was the title "Z" in FFXIV created with the intent to support the russian troops invading you Ukraine? No. Obviously not. And quite honestly that should be enough for people. Otherwise next thing we know is they'll also be asking Square to remove the /slap emote because Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars and well they can't have that, obviously it would mean they support Will Smith in promoting violence when people say things that you might find distasteful.

That is really detrimental mentality.

If "Z" will be added to forbidden symbols/whatever it's called ones by larger entities like EU and or USA then companies having services in those regions will have to comply. The question is how it would be phrased. We still have WW II games with full Nazi Germany or Soviet Union not to mention Hitler/Stalin themes. IMHO it's very unlikely to happen by law to such extent, but it can happen due to Twitter outrage.

Personally I won't be using it. I switched to it after getting my WHM weapon but now there is an awful war just around the border of my country.

The problem with Z or V is not that they are used by troops but because Putin propaganda elevated "Z" to a symbol of their "way". They have kids wearing it, propaganda clips with everyone with "Z". Everyone pro Putin, pro "special operation". And Russians do use it to show support (wherever from brainwashing or fear) so it's going the same way as hailing to swastika and so on.

Yeah. I do think it's ridiculous to label a letter as offensive. I can just see how it might be offensive to some right now. Like someone said in a previous thread though...where would it end? Where does the line get drawn? That makes this sort of thing a bit more complicated.

They didn't remove Omicron despite the expansion getting released just before the outbreak exploded.

They don't remove content on a whim, which I can respect and appreciate.

When a group adopts a symbol they want it to be theirs and only theirs. They want it to stand for them or some aspect of what they do. They want you to think of them when you see that symbol. Some go so far as want other people to be afraid to use it for anything else but to represent them. When those who commonly use the symbol give up using it and agree it now belongs to that group, the people give up a part of their culture and their everyday life so that group can have an ideological safe space. It's tragic and real people in Ukraine needs help i can't doubt it. It's just getting tiresome that every single new world event should remove letters from the alphabet to be used in any way, what's next ? If another army uses the letter X on their tanks, remove X, There are also Omicron robots in the game, remove their names ? If a bomb plane does a humming sound, ban humming sounds, plane sounds and emotes from video games ? What kind of world does that leave us in ? What if an asteroid or meteor hits some part of the world, just ban every meteor and asteroid simulation / vids talking about it on the internet ? At what point we are just removing the ability of people to express all the flavours and panels of the human condition by continuous streaks of censorship just to hide human suffering from our eyes and minds ?

The letter Z isn't even part of the Russian alphabet, so what the op is asking for is to remove a squiggly line that looks a bit like a letter from a completely different language. If someone is so far past the "sticks and stones" principle and is actively calling for random shapes to be banned then I can safely say it's ok to ignore them.
