Dyes are taking 50 slots in my chocobo saddle bag

Hello. After getting rid of gathering HQ items to reduce inventory bloat, could you design a system where we can store dyes. It's common to have many different dyes on hand when you are experimenting with glamour system and it's inconvenient to have them all on your retainer.

Probly not the answer you would like to hear, but my advice would be to ditch almost all of them. The special ones on the far-right tab are annoying to acquire, so yeah you can keep any of those you dont find ugly. Every other dye in the game is either sold by a vendor or crafted as a low level recipe. You can still experiment with the glam system, still use the "dye preview" option to mix and match, then when its time to apply dye you just pick up what you need.

Above response is seconded. No need to hoard a ton of items easily reobtainable.

As someone who plays around with their glamour almost daily and decorates their home every once in a while, I agree with the OP.
I would much rather have my dyes accessible when doing these things like in the inn or at my house then having to constantly go back and forth between the MB or vendors in other locations.

SE has already stated they do not wish to add more specialized inventory to the game that accommodates only a single type of item when that inventory space could be used for general purposes.

Ultimately it's up to you to decide what you want to store. If dyes are the most important to you, then you'll need to sacrifice storing other items to make space for them.

Personally I'll stick to using Preview then buying/crafting the dye I want once I make my decision (I do store the more expensive general purpose dyes I know I'll use). I usually buy a few extra to make sure I have enough then sell off the leftovers on the MB once I'm done.

A hoarders life, you don't know when will you need that slightly gray dye. But yeah, I usually do furnishing in our fc house so that was the main reason for me to carry that many of them. Thanks for response.

For common dyes there is a storage system already.

I think it's possible to make dyes into special storage without making it a single purpose invintory.

All you do is permently sacrifice the dyes into it, so they can never be taken out, and now it's storing counts (0-63) of each dye, and that'll take up less storage then even one item.

Hoarding isn't something to be proud of. You're actually destroying your quality of life instead of improving it, not to mention losing money from all those items you hold onto thinking you might use them one day but rarely do.

Also, that slightly grey dye (along with 32 others) is on the Junkmonger that you hopefully already have placed in your FC house so there's no need to store it in inventory at all. It's already conveniently there on demand.

In terms of glamour and dye storage, FF14 could really improve by looking to GW2. A account-wide wardrobe that stores all unlocked glamour options as well as any unlocked dyes, to be freely (or at the cost of glamour prisms) applied to your armor at any time (or just in cities if its too taxing otherwise). If this wardrobe is a 'catalogue' of every existing glamour piece, the only data that needs to be stored per account (or per character if not doing it account-wide) is '1' or '0' depending if that glamour piece has been unlocked yet. Compared to the current system that gives them storage issues cause each individual piece is being stored in different slots of glamour storage. Dunno if it would make sense to take over the dye system too, where you just unlock each dye color once and then can freely apply it to your dyeable armor pieces or glamours. Would certainly be convenient, though.

it's still data that you would have to be carrying around on your person, because that's the way they set things up. and they're very cautious about how much data is attached to your character because it has to be lugged around everywhere you go. that's why there's no "personal inventories" or "special storage" with extra data like like numbers and whatnot beyond what we have in like the currency tab.

Why would you carry it on your person, there's no need.

You stick it in the armour with other long term storage items, things that get left behind when you sever visit or data center visit.

I actually use a fair bit of Mole Brown when toning in with other things, but it costs all of 40 gil to buy another one from the junkmonger so they're not worth hanging onto.

Even Metallic Orange has its occasional uses, but not enough to keep them on hand. Sell it on the marketboard and then in the future you'll use the same money (more or less) to buy a new one.

I'll see your metalic orange (worked good on glasses and monicles, oddly enough) and raise you metalic RED.

No, either give us a currency like tab for that or let us unlock ALL dyes at an npc, then i dont care throwing it away... Or let us craft ALL dyes so we only need to keep base colors and create what we need...

What if we could use pigments as a dying currency for normal dye colors instead of a crafting material?
We could use mixtures of 2 or 3pigments to dye things a particular color (that isn't in the Special category. The Restoration dyes and terebinth could be moved to Special as well).
They could keep Red, Yellow, and Blue pigments, remove Green, Orange, and Purple, and add Black/Darkening and White/Lightening pigments/agents.
Existing normal dyes could be replaced with "Pigment Packs" for specific colors, giving the combination of pigments for that specific color.

For example:
To dye something Iris Purple, the user would need: 1 Blue Pigment, 1 Red Pigment, and 1 White/Lightening Pigment.
If you have an Iris Purple Pigment Pack, you can use it to add those pigments to your Pigment Menu.

If you wanted to dye something Pastel Pink, you would need: Pastel Pink Dye.

I have thought about something like that as well, Mimilu. In general, the idea that we could just group up non-premium dyes into broad colours. So, for example, "red dye" can make every dye in the red colour (except maybe the Ishgard ones). I get some dyes are an ARR beast tribe reward... so just give them something else, or make it so you can buy the base dyes from them or something. If they simplified the dyes, they could just move them to the part of your inventory where crystals go, since the data would be pretty light.

I've managed to boil my colour scheme down to about 3 colours ( two aren't even real colours...). And I recommend ya do the same!

I mean, yes, that's how crafting works. Red pigment lets you craft almost any of them. So just expand it to let it make more of them?

We probably will never see them add tabs for items simply because if they keep doing that what will we put in our bags? If we have a tab for dyes, a tackle box, materia etc. etc. what would go in our bags? Potions and food? We don't have trash vendor items or other clutter items like most MMORPGs have and clutter management has been a part of RPGs since the very first RPG/JRPG.

Not to mention the data side of it.
