Island Sanctuaries when?

Hey all,

I just checked the 6.1 patch site and consulted with The Oracle to see when Island Sanctuaries will be dropping, but didn't find anything. I seem to recall them saying between 6.1 and 6.2, is that accurate? Did they happen to give a ballpark real world date for them?

6.2 was on the slide in live letter 68. Given that 6.1 will be in April and patch cycle was stated to be four months would place 6.2 in August.

Thanks! That gives me more time to gather and accumulate gil to buy what shinies are allowed there at the time. I'm foreseeing various soils, seeds, and growth formulas to be useful. :)

I doubt anything currently in the game (other than minions) would be used for Island Sanctuary based on what YoshiP has said so far. It's supposed to be relaxing, non-competitive content. Using items that can be traded between players would bring a competitive element to it.

People dream and hope based on the early wording "you will be able to place buildings" - which you do as you unlock beast tribes too.

Let them dream, I guess. I expect it will be a bit like verminion and most people will drop it after a few days.

I'm guessing because they think the farming content mentioned for Island Sanctuary is going to be the same gardening that we have with housing.

Other players expect Island Sanctuary to be instanced housing at some point in the future no matter how many times YoshiP tells us to dial back our expectations.

There have been several other threads about Island Sanctuary started in this subforum so one more shouldn't be surprising. It will probably continue to happen until a dedicated subforum for the content gets created.

With SE's past performance on housing, I expect nothing special so I might be disappointed :) IMO, it will be like Domon Enclave, just a flash in the pan.

Housing seemed the closest heading for it and the people in this sub-forum are generally nicer than General Discussion. :)

I have seen some people mention that Island Sanctuaries is due in 7.0. I have seen others say it was coming with 6.1. Does anyone have any concrete information on when this feature might show up? I haven't seen the information mentioned above with regards to this slide showing 6.2. Did it have information about Island Sanctuaries?

It's even spelled out in the Live Letter digest which a Community representative posted right in this forum.

As farming now has a massive competetion going on in being able to obtain a house, using the islands is a very viable way to negate that issue. The more places in which you can farm, the lower the effect of a house becomes. Even if you have only 2 appartments and the island, if that gives enough farming, then even those with a mansion are gaining relatively less. 2 vs 10 or 6 vs 14 gives those who have less a higher relative value.

Sure, it could make the farmable items worth less, but thats not an issue because some farmable items are always useful, and it could even be compensated in a diffirent way (higher consume rates in recipes).

Reducing value isn't the same as eliminating competition.

Please listen to YoshiP as he repeatedly tells us to lower our expectations about Island Sanctuary. It is not going to be an extension or replacement for anything we have in the current housing system. If it was, he's be sharing that information with us to take some of the heat off the housing debate.

Yeah, he's been very clear in communicating this. Having also said they're delaying it given public reception and comments, it wouldn't surprise me if people are expecting more out of it than it will be. Any buildings on it can be only for exterior looks as far as I'm concerned. If we're able to decorate a yard to hang out with our friends in, let the minions I never summon run wild, and grow Chocobo food I'll be 100% satisfied. Anything more than that's just gravy on the fries.
