I'm guessing no. I'm actually curious if SE will lol. Probably 20% yes 80% no.

It'd be nice, especially considering the potential for this conflict to spill over, but time will tell.
I think there may be bigger issues to worry about due to the invasion than whether or not housing demolition will be paused.
We'll see how it goes from here. Yet the existence of larger issues does not necessarily negate the existence of smaller issues.
Even if the chaos spreads across Europe as a whole then it'd be nice to emerge from a bunker knowing that my house in FFXIV survived, at least.
B got rushed to the Black Sea, and virtual houses were lost. Very sad.
The scary part (well, one of many honestly) is that Putin has apparently become so detached from reality that we really don't know what he's going to do. He could go nuclear today, tomorrow or never. The simple fact that he brought them up in his speeches is alarming.
It is definitely something that could prevent people from logging in for the foreseeable future in certain parts of Europe, which could justify moving back the starting date on the automatic demolitions.
Stay safe Ukraine (and everyone, for that matter, since we will have no idea what will happen from here on out.)
While yeah there's bigger things to worry about, truth is that XIV is an escapism tool for lots of people. Knowing that your stuff, even if it's virtual, will stay safe and untouched gives a bit of solace to those people. So really I hope that SE can give accommodations like that.
Surprisingly this is a good post. I have a friend over there and they said they cant get online they had to move to Poland. :/ It would be nice but we shall see what SE does.
Under normal circumstances I'd fully agree with you. But like I said, he has become unhinged. This isn't him being cold and calculating. This is him being crazy. NONE of this makes any sense. The attack itself is, sadly, unsurprising. It has been in the making for years. But the way he's going about it all is very unlike Putin.
Square really should do so.
I'm blessed and do not have to live in a conflict zone, so my day to day worries are pretty much nothing in comparison. It's bad enough people have to worry about their lives ending or radically changing, let the one saving grace, no matter how miniscule it may be, be that their form of escapism is still untouched as they last remember during rough times.
SE are normally pretty good with pausing housing demolitions due to disasters.
Most definitely bigger issues than virtual housing, just like people impacted when Hurricane Michael hit in 2018 had much larger issues when virtual housing was paused on NA worlds. Or all the people impacted by the terrible flooding in Japan in 2018 when Virtual Housing demolition was paused on JP worlds.
Anything that can be done to ease the smallest of worries when their real world is being upended is a good thing.
SE seems to suspend it whenever a disruptive event like this happens, which is a few times a year so there is hardly a time when the housing demolition is actually ticking.
Man basically had everything line up to throw down his gambit. West in disarray and caught with its pants down. A disgruntled citizenry with a down turned economy is unlikely to support intervention action. Not to mention hesitation to get involved after a disastrous end to a twenty year long conflict just last year. The stars aligned for Putin.
I don't find it particularly alarming tbh, the reason why he brought them up was just him flexing to basically send the signal of '' stay out of this '' to the rest of the world.
Putin is evil but he's not an idiot.
It makes a lot of sense to mention nukes and Biden and other US presidents also bring them up, Biden in one of his recent talks about the current situation also brought them up.
Finland shares a border with Russia and Sweden where I am from is very important geographically, Russia does a lot of weird and random acts of aggression towards us on a somewhat regular basis ( including breaking into our territory ).
But I am not particularly worried about it, altho I do hope we join NATO already I think if this has shown anything it's that we can't be so naive about it even if we're promised protection and essentially have a separate agreement NATO memebership would still offer a greater guarantee.
There are however a lot of reasons why Russia would invade Ukraine while there's no real reason for them to invade the rest of Europe and it'd be suicidal.
In all honesty tho the biggest concern for me when it comes to nukes is actually accidents.
If you look into how outdated a lot of the nuclear bases are it's quite concerning, and there has been a lot of very close accidents before.
SE tends to do this whenever a large number of people are likely to have their actual, real life houses destroyed.
I guess it depends if Ukraine is officially on the EU server list - I imagine it is.
Also, Japan has a bit of historical enmity with Russia, going back all the way to the time of the Czars. And SE wasn't above giving Garlemald a number of Russian characteristics. So, uh ... I suspect we know what side they're on, at least.
Yes, sometimes the existence of larger issues DOES negate the existence of smaller issues. If you have to emerge out of a bunker due to chaos spreading across Europe, there is a VERY good chance that SE simply does not exist anymore due to WWIII having just occured. Many of the nations within Europe are NATO members and if they were attacked, it would mean all out war against Russia by NATO. I see no way for that NOT to go straight to nuclear war. I grew up during the cold war era. At that time we were all painfully aware of just how close we had come to nuclear annihilation on SEVERAL occasions. This current crisis outstrips ALL of those past ones by a fair margin. My only hope is that there is some sanity left in the leaders of the nations of the World.
I am a Japanese. Please forgive me if I make a mistake in the grammar.
I'm reading this post from Japan. In Japan, the crisis in Ukraine has been widely reported by the Japanese media, and I am very sad. I pray for Ukraine people safety from Japan.
I think SE also understands this difficult situation in Ukraine. Also, I think that some Japanese players know from the gameplay that FF14 is being played in Ukraine.
I hope SE will take appropriate action.
Thank you for your reading.
Seems like a logical request / response to the situation. Of course there are bigger issues to be concerned over, but given they've paused it for earthquakes and such.. seems like this issue would certainly fall in that general line of thought of "worry about your other stuff, not the game- come back when you can".
As for the discussion of hinged or unhinged all I feel is situation is bad or it's bad. "Don't make them mad, they'll nuke us!" reads to me as they can do whatever they want as everyone will just give up and rollout "they came for the X, and I did nothing, Y and I sat, and then they came for me" type situation. Alternatively the other popular option is "bring down the wrath of Zeus on them!!!" reads to me like a very long winter will be coming. Edit: re-read and realized it might look like I'm saying we should do nothing or ambivalence.. no.. just expounding my feeling of dread given MAD vs inaction. Standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do, just trying not to light the tinderbox while doing it.. hopefully.
Can I go back to 2020 with aliens being the surprise joke?
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but housing demolition is already paused and has been paused for a couple of months. (Due to the congestion at the Endwalker release.)
Housing demolition is currently scheduled to be re-enabled on March 9. A week and a half from now. Lots of things can happen during that time - good or bad - that may influence the need for another pause.
It should be delayed for them due to all the craziness going on.
With all due respect the existence of larger issues does not mean the smaller issues should be entirely ignored. This is actually an ancient fallacy that all too many people fall into. It won't do for the ukraine situation to end up settled just for the morale of the survivors to plummet that little bit more should their little escape from the horrors of reality hand them an eviction notice.
As with all deasters that happen over the past few years (floods, fires, hurricanes... you name it...) its not about an ingame house being more important, its about this being one less, even if tiny, worry on peoples minds when they've lost everything else. No one believes that this would make a huge difference, but maybe it can make a tiny difference - games are a means of escapism, playing them or even thinking about them can distract you from whatever happens around you.
I'm sure people have a lot more and a lot bigger things to worry about right now - but why not take away this tiny worry?
I would not only entertain the idea that it is "OK" to use some form of escapism - video games or otherwise - during a crisis like this but necessary to keep ones sanity, quite literally. Dealing with constant stress, fear/panic, anxiety without means to destress is a sure way to mental illness - so yes, whatever helps one to de-stress is a good thing (given that its not actively hurting others).
Oh, by all means go ahead with extending the moratorium on housing demolition. It is a relatively trivial thing to do. I hope you are not under any illusion that this is going to offer even a modicum of relief though. These people are trying to SURVIVE. If you really want to help them, I suggest you find a charity that is planning to send relief supplies to the refugees and make a donation to it.
I can see one of two things occurring tomorrow. Either they post a update with the wording of "In light of the conflict occurring in Ukraine, we have decided to extend the housing demolition suspension on the Chaos and Light datacenters and will be looking closely at the conflict to see if the suspension extension is spread to other datatcenters." OR "We are aware of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and will be monitoring the conflict to see if the housing demolition suspension is extended. We are not extending the demolition timer on any datacenter at this time."
Seems they did stop the auto-demolition.

Well wth do you want from them? They are a gameing company. My god do some of you realize because of what is going on in Ukraine it could spark a world war, not to mention this mad man has nukes? I think that is more important than some virtual house with virtual items.
