GRAPHICS REQUEST Polygon C./Model for Hands and Feet

Hello Dev Team,

As you are in the initial stages of the graphics planning no doubt the directions taken right now are going to dictate all the work that gets done in the following years.

I want to stress the importance of paying attention to our character's limbs and redoing them. You would be touching every gear model in the game and so please give us decent hands and feet.

Both are extremely outdated and horrible looking. We're not looking for perfection but at least not abandonment of these models.

To be honest Limbs are rather delicate features and they should have the same amount of attention as the faces of the characters are getting. ring/Glove/Shoe choices we make in our glamour reflect a big part of the style we would like to convey in game.

If this stuff matters to you please voice your support to create awareness. I know there are other areas that are bad as well, but these are especially bad in my opinion, and since they are redoing the textures so things don't look so pixelated this is one of the things I did not see mentioned anywhere with model/polygon count.

I adore the Oracle boots and use them in almost all of my glams. I try very hard not to look at.. those. These are honestly worse than Warcraft Flippers.

+1 for high fidelity fingers and a foot with potentially discernable features.

You know why kupo they made them like this? I don't see any spas around..id imagine we all have some "hammertime" feet kupo. lol jk

Not only hands and feet but thighs, elbows and knees excruciatingly need better models with a much higher polygon count.


Final Fantasy XIV has a beautiful art style but the graphics are really old after 11 years of life, the dev team must take this opportunity and remake the models in much higher quality.



Honestly, I wouldn't mind if only one's character looked better than the rest of players and NPCs in the game but probably it's not so bad that they would have to do it that way, they could also give us more options to reduce the number of characters on screen to a new minimum to allow for better models.


Maybe make it so that only party members and a given amount of the closest characters look great and the farthest ones, the harder to see use simplified models, it would all depend on the player's hardware.

Of course 50 million poly flowerpot is silly but I could see poly increase to common things be quite nice, especially if they're powerful yet cost effective. Reminds me of that Skyrim mod that makes loads of things have a greater 3d element (rounder barrels, rope, etc), and only very slightly impacted frames.

Definitely. I really, really hope it isn't just the faces getting upgrades on the character models. I wouldn't put it past Enix to do that too- they've done stuff like that before.
Because, when they show something, they literally mean just that.
They've been misleading at live letters before not intentionally- likely due to translation.
An example I remember, were the terms used to describe the Hrothgar customization pre ShB. Literally said "They will have robust customization."
Which makes it seem like they would have a large selection to pick from, when they really meant the Hrothgar are big.

In order to improve both things they need to do it for every item for all races and genders. I will be surprise if they do it.

They have to do it anyways because they are updating textures and fabrics. So it is a good opportunity to take IMO.

I fear they don't upgrade any of the models and just slap better textures over them. I don't look forward to that if the hunch is correct

I'm of the same opinion.

I think this would be hard to do since they would need to remodel every piece of gear that shows those, like every glove that shows fingers would have to change their models individually. I think if they give high resolution textures to the body (including hands and feet) like they will do with the faces, it will already improve it a lot!

AGREE! The false nails from the beast quests are a tad better, but they def need some help.

OP reminds me of that one guy in PF looking to trade feet pics for clears. lol

(Not saying OP is requesting it for this reason but the thought was funny)

Yeah you know that was actually a consideration before doing this post. I think I have never seen one post where feet are mentioned anywhere without someone automatically turning it weird for no reason. Despite that I decided to bite the bullet and do it anyways because when people stay silent and don't create awareness about some obvious bad issues the character models have then we all lose for it.

So it's actually a disservice to the community to make things weird and have noone want to talk about them because these issues become overlooked since noone says anything and they never get fixed.

Yoshi said this will be the first update, others will follow.

We are NOT allowed to use mods in this game.


Even if SE allowed them, moders do what they want and quality is not guaranteed.


I prefer using the game without any alterations, mods or anything that is not allowed by the ToS so the graphical update/upgrade will be most welcome and hopefully they will do an excellent job.

That's what I'm talking about. Mods can get you a body with hands and feet with more polygons, but if you want your gloves to be affected you have to get a mod for each of the gloves in this game or else they'll still have the blocky fingers, same with the feet and shoes.

They'd only have to re-do all the gear showing feet and fingers, for four different base models..

Something like "The Emperor's New Sandals" (barefoot appearance, maybe even with dyable toenails?) would also be nice, just saying.

I think SE will address this when the character model update rolls around. It would honestly be foolish not to.

I honestly hope so. It's just the update they gave was very non committal on anything other than lighting and textures. So I hope if they see wide support for things like these on their forums they may be encouraged to go the extra mile. I definitely see a scenario where they roll out better lighting/high res version of the same character models and call it a day. This would entail a bit more work but I firmly beleive it would be the right thing to do.

This would also not signficiantly affect the look of the characters, other than being more detailed which does align with their goals of keeping the look of the character as intact as possible. Which I'm super okay with. I like the general aesthetic of the game.

I feel like anyone could make better looking feet. They are literally trapezoids. Obviously SE can do better, it's just the game hasn't aged well. The beauty of modding is that you can pick which one you like best so quality is guaranteed unlike the trapezoid feet we have today. I don't modify the game graphically but if it's anything like Skyrim it's night/day. I can't play Skyrim vanilla it's an awful game without mods. Anyone defending vanilla skyrim as a 10/10 game is delusional. Modders saved that broken game lol And as far as ToS violation, maybe... But it's at the discretion of the GM. They can't prove that you modded your client and the only way they can give you a stern spanking is if you openly admit it in the forums or in-game. It's your game and it's your decision on whether or not you want to mod it. Yoshi P said that much but can't officially endorse the idea even though most other MMOs not only allow it but have tools to help. Mods pretty much saved ESO and while FF14 doesn't need mods to save it, it could enhance it but it's a policy that will never go away due (probably) to cross-play since the FF14 culture likes to complain a lot.

Eventually we will have "high polygon" feet, and maybe we will have better feet / body made by modders. It shouldn't be hard to import those models into blender, add more subdivisions and export it back into the game. Imagine rendering 300 characters at the same time with 400k polygons each... It's a great way to warm up your home during winter! Personally, I just want my models to look good enough, they don't have to be hyper-realistic. I'm just thankful that we don't have cube hands like in FF7.

While modding is a thing and it doesn't hurt anyone I play the game vanilla because it is a more cohesive experience, I just want a good stock experience and more importantly when I equip my character with glams I want other players in the game to see my character represented in the way I intended. (Modders not withstanding of course)

It's an MMO and supposed to be somewhat social at least a bit. Just like when I go out in the world and I dress up I expect people to see the style I wish to convey.

Fully in support of better looking tips and toesies. I keep mine gloved and booted constantly, so out of sight outta mind at the moment.
