Advice for those with inventory problems...

So, a lot of this is probably going to be kind of "well no kidding" for people who played this game since ARR, but for those who are new and leveling multiple jobs and/or maintaining a glamour backlog...

1) Old dungeon sets from past expansions can be safely turned in for Grand Company Seals or sold off. It's so easy to get those armor pieces by just running the job you want them for that there is no point in stuffing them in your inventory.

2) Old armor sets from 2 expansions or more ago can be safely turned in for Grand Company Seals IF they are from 50/60/70 dungeons or old savage raid tiers. They are pretty easy to get back, though the one potential exception is the Leg armor since getting a group together for those parts can be a pain.

3) Poetics gear can be turned in safely for Grand Company seals or sold to NPCs. This can be argued a bit since some early sets get outdated faster than one could reasonably purchase them back, but for the most part they are not worth holding onto if not currently in use.

4) Crafting and Gathering materials from older expansions, unless they are from timed nodes, are not worth holding onto and should be sold or tossed out. You'll end up burning multiple retainers trying to keep a convenient backlog of items on hand and it just isn't worth it.

Now for the painful stuff...

5) If the item is from the cash shop, you should store it.

6) Veteran Rewards and original AF gear can be stored in the armoire. Seasonal items may or may NOT be stored in the armoire. So for the most part, store what you can in the armoire and then either stow or toss the remainder.

7) Housing items can be stored in your housing storage, but keep in mind that you'll want to avoid hording common items and sell them off. Seasonal items from events generally have to be stored permanently or repurchased from the cash shop.

8) Fantasia's, level boosts, and other account items must be stored, so plan on it.

9) Generally, crafting and gathering gear used for leveling is highly valued in the 60-89 bracket, so if you are planning on leveling multiple crafts, you'll have to hang onto that stuff. HQ crafting gear is one of the big sources of income ironically for other people participating in the gathering and crafting arena.

10) Consumable items unique to event areas like Eureka are generally more powerful than the common alchemical items, so they usually need to be stored as they are typically rewards for doing fates or other activities. However, you should absolutely clean out old potions and ethers as only the highest grade matters, and both potions and ethers are useless at max level.

11) If an item comes from Eureka or one of the major grind areas, you'll probably need to store it due to the time needed to acquire the item. This includes relic weapons, rewards from completing the deepest depths of deep dungeons, Eureka and Bazja, and Ultimates.

Very good stuff man. Let me add one more thing, for the glamor dresser:

-With Ninja currently being the only job that doesn't have shared gear except accessories, you don't have to take up a glamor plate for it. Just glam as normal, then stuff the parts you used back in your retainer storage instead of your dresser.

-Weapons are not shareable either. Glam your weapon, then store the weapon you used back in the retainer. This can save you a neat 19 slots in the dresser.

-You don't actually have to have gear in the dresser to glam your gear, only the image. This is super useful for glamming with AF gear that can be re-bought from the calamity salvager or other npc. For example, say I want to glam my warrior with the latest AF gear for it but I don't want to keep it in the dresser. I'll get the set, put it in the dresser, use a plate and fill the slots with it. Once I save it, I take out the gear from the dresser, then discard them. Now I can infinitely use the set as long as I don't overwrite it with any other gear. Obviously, the downside is that if I do overwrite, I'll have to get the actual parts again but it's a small price to pay for dresser space that I can use for other gear.

Meanwhile, I'm over here shoveling 10 pages-worth of unmarketable gear into a furnace.

Can't manage your inventory if there's nothing to manage.

It is...doesn't mean everything is fashionable though. Stop cosplaying Imelda Marcos and get rid of some of those shoes.

The glamour dresser is really more like armoire 2.0. You don't want to throw anything that is disposable in there and realistically, the only things that should be in there are items that work on just about any job, are bought from the cash shop, or are a major pain in the rear to acquire. And yes, I have unfortunately fallen prey to my own problems. :P

Personally I’m still struggling with glamour dresser…. 400/400 is a sight of nightmare, period.

Old dungeon sets, even ARR-HW, which can be easily soloable by anyone is an issue too, because sometimes it requires you dozens of runs of the same thing before it drops. I had to run Arboretum about 32 times for the hat I wanted to finally drop. Even one-shotting everything along the way, is still a nasty thing to do... No way I'm deleting that hat ever again.

Good advice for new folks
Unfortunately I already do all that and still have inventory problems :p ah well, c'est la vie I guess lmao

As a returner crafter gatherer, I just wanted to add a couple of things for fellow oldies who may not be caught up:


- A lot of items now stack much higher than the old 99. If you have multiple stacks of the same materials, try sticking them into the same pile.


- HQ items can no longer be gathered and no longer have any advantage in crafting if they aren't crafted materials themselves. For example, a HQ log will act just like a normal log in crafting but a HQ piece of lumber will still boost quality. If you have stacks of the same gathered goods in HQ and NQ forms, lower the HQ stuff and stack it with the NQ.


Hope those help others as they helped me!

I agree, it's not good advice. In some dungeons you automatically get an item you don't have, so by holding on to everything for the job you are working on you can eventually get anything within a dozen runs. I'm not sure why some dudgeon do this and some don't.

"You can always run the dungeon for a rare item." does not count as easily replaceable.
