I found 19, anyone else top that?
Well, they appear on the map AND mini-map when you're quite close(1 square range).
So I believe there's no point in counting...right?
Well I noticed a few didn't pop till I finished other ones. and certain times they did pop and didn't on others.
19 appears to be the current max.
Um, if true you got a point. Some side-quests need to be finished prior to open new ones? Haven't heard about this.
I always see the same markers when i'm close NPC's be it on Uldah/Grid/Limsa.
I have 4 lol. ='[
are the sidequests any good? and how are they awarded? I heard that you dont get experience for them.
hmmm I didn't see any of these I did not know how to find them so you just randomly pop up on your screen once you get close?
Youll see a Purple question mark in a white bubble above a NPCs head. Run around and look in major cities.
good question bongi. is there a link to the <pos> of side-quest starter NPCs?
You can forget them. They seem to me like an alibi so that SE can say "we implemented quests", but in the end they're only adding insult to injury and are in no way comparable to, for example, the many dozens of quests which were added in FF XI since the "Aht Urghan" expansion 5 years ago.
What you can expect is simple "Kill 8 dodos" stuff like in levequests including map markers instead of farming. Main difference to levequests is that you have to run around more, there's no teleport back and you're not even getting sp/exp while doing them.
You should NOT expect to get a involving story with them, you do NOT get cutscenes, and you do NOT get a challenge. Concerning design and implementation they're on a level like FF XI back in 2002, except that even the fun is missing here.
Honestly, it was a mistake of SE to not reward players with EXP and SP from Sidequests. Something I always disliked about FFXI and now FFXIV is how leveling up and story-progression have always been two separate activities. SE could easily combine stories and leveling into one activity if they simply gave out EXP and SP as rewards for completing Sidequests.
I also have 19 quests completed, and looks like there will be more added as new patches come out. Hopefully ones that lead to better gear and/or cutscenes that improve the storyline of the game.
can you please post quests names and starter or provide a link.
i only know 18.
I've found 15, but I only looked each town once.
No quests on hamlets and stuff, right?
They may not be that great now, but look down the road.
Like someone said they may be necessary to unlock something later on, especially since they are progressive. I plan on doing them all eventually
Yes Bongi. It will appear on your map when you get close enough and you will see an exclamation mark on top of the NPC head. Here's the list for everyone who are having a hard time finding the sidequests.

Icons will pop up above NPC heads and on your minimap when you're close enough.
I've only gotten one so far, but it seems that either the game scans all your class ranks regardless of the class you're on, or all the sidequests show up all the time. I was running around on my carpenter and I had a sidequest pop up for a R10 DoW or DoM. Either way, it's nice to know that you don't have to run around every area on every class just to hunt for sidequests.
I believe there is currently 19 side-quests in total. I have checked the hamlets for more and have found none so all 19 start in the three major cities. Some do need a prerequisite side-quest finished to become available it seems.
P.S. I apologize to the confusion, I totally did not see that typo until I rechecked later. I only wanted to state there were no side-quests in the hamlets like someone asked.
Sorry SE, you Loose on this one....again....My hopes were so high when you announced "more than several" side quests were added. WOW!!! 10 or 20??? really??? When Aion announced they were adding "several" new mini quests we got 750 per side. Now I never really expected that many but I know that I and many of my friends were thinking way more that 10 or 20. I won't even get into how easy thay are.
Once again you have failed. You seem to have a never ending cycle of fixing what is not broke and not doing enough to fix what is.
Hey, cut them some slack. The ones we have were a result of SE hurriedly cranking out a new type of content they weren't planning on having at all. Or at least, not any time soon. We already know they're working on more (and possibly more varied, though I won't be putting money on that); they just had 19 or 20 available so they decided to push them out now instead of in another month.
Now, if this was content they'd been planning for several months, there would be much more room to bitch.
Issue is:
These quests would rock for new players and to assist PS3 players upon launch. They do nothing for their current player base. Should have made a bunch of r35-50 ones, then sent these ones @ PS3 ....
