Not Leviathan, so what is it?
-
-
I could have sworn someone had mentioned before that not only has Leviathan gone through a redesign since launch, but that those are both in fact the same creature. Can't remember the exact source though.
-
Possibly actually.

Well, I need to correct myself, it seems the latter is about 100 times as big.

They're taking Bahamut back to his mythological roots.
Bahamut is now the fish he was always meant to be.
Thank you SE!!

I like dragon Bahamut

Upper one is Yoshida's leviathan...the one that will be primal.
Lower one is Tanaka's leviathan, the giant sea serpent that we see when we start in Limsa Lominsa (and that prolly will be removed when they redo the city tutorials).
-
I sort of like the old sea serpent in the Limsa Lominsa intro. I never thought it was Leviathan (because I assumed Leviathan would look more similar to the newer model), but I did like the effect it gave. I don't think any of us will forget this scene from the benchmark, or from beta. I hope they don't change it.
That said, I LOVE the new Leviathan.
I think the 'old' Leviathan was a generic term for a huge sea serpent. There may be others like it, or at least similar to it. The 'new' Leviathan is the avatar/primal we know and love... completely unique (there are none other like him).
-
If you load the Sea Serpent in game you will see it was never intended to be fought with lol it is longer than your view distance by double.
That said, all lore people say "Sea Serpent", it is never referred to as Leviathan by the Lore people, I think this is something where people just took characteristics and threw labels on it, or a dev might have said it sometime.
-
umm its this? maybeh
http://zam.zamimg.com/ffxi/i/images/...ishing-Rod.jpg
its just a fish who jumps above ur ship in LL opening
-
I thought the Big one was called generally as "Sea Serpent", and just like some have mentioned, have never been called as Leviathan in the game.
I think of it (From what I've seen/heard in the game) as some Catastrophic being, some kind of natural disaster. Maybe like Nidhogg in Ishgard.
I hope that the both of them (Well, Leviathan surely will) will have a much more appearance and place in the game, maybe make him some kind of the ruler of the sea for underwater content. Whatever SE can come up with that makes sense.
-
leviathan has the same characteristics, as the others Esper in all FF... look always with a sharp snout and skin rough and scaly.... The Sea Serpent in LL cutscene look more similiar to this: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/S...al_Fantasy_III)
Leviathan is a Sea Dragon, LL cutscene is more a sea serpent ^^
(and everything if fall in the sea, if it's big, can make a tsunami... not only leviathan :x )

the pink on is Leviathans girlfriend.

Which one are you talking about? I think people closely relate serpents and dragons, and whenever someone sees a sea serpent type monster, they generally refer to it as Leviathan, especially if it is that huge. The question is, which one is Leviathan, and it seems people have mixed opinions about it.

You mean the difference in structure shows that the pink one is more like Leviathan? I can agree that Leviathan is supposed to be a sea dragon, but the one in the LL cutscene does closely relate to old Final Fantasy game's Leviathans. Even then, like I said before, people generally associate certain monsters to old summons or espers.
-
Well the pink one could be a sub-servant of Leviathan or perhaps a pet of the Shangins (Much like the Almaja have Drakes or the Xali have Dogs) which would make sense.
Though on a note when your doing the Mini-Ifrit quest in Limsa, the GC Quest NPC does mention that Limsa had successfully defeated Leviathan on it's own making me wonder if they defeated the Pink one instead of the Primal itself.

It would make more sense if they defeated the blue one instead of the "real" pink one. As they actually showed them fighting the blue one. And the pink one seems to have far more detail, and is far bigger.
-
the blue one in my book was always the sea serpent limsa ended up fighting.
(and succesfully defeating)
seeing as the current primals show forms of high intelligence and the ability to speak;
(something the blue leviathan never displayed if i remember correctly)
i'm assuming the purple/pink one will share these abilities and be the actual primal leviathan.

Agreed, obviously.

Where you even find this images? Whats your source?

The "Blue beast" IS leviathan. end.
The "Pink beast" it's only a mob... can't? why?
Esper or Primal are summons from beast-tribe... gods.
The Sea-serpent is simple a very-very-very-very-very-very big monster that live in the lominsan sea... why u need to think twisted :S
NEVER in the game the pink beast is named as the god Leviathan, never.

you need to check your sources then.
the majority of leviathan in the FF lore are either pink or purple. (with a blue undertone)

I wonder what beast tribe will summon it.
So far 3 main beast tribes has been used.
Syphis is only at Gridania so it is unlikely. We seen it at limsa before.

Are you blind? Most of the Levis there are either violet or pink with a blue belly. The fact is, in Limsa lore, they defeated and killed the blue serpent, while you can't kill a Primal. We won't know forsure until we are told or see the lore, but most signs point towards the lower one, especially with its increased size and detail, being Levi.

Pretty sure one of them is for CG, and the other for ingame/fights.
Least that's what it looks like.
-
I think it was supposed to orignally be leviathan. Even the reavers used it during the LL storyline. Though it could just be a fish they Also control. My biggest guess would be that the purpose of leviathan has changed since there is an obvious size issue when it comes to fights. Also since the team has changed, using this new leviathan could give them the edge on progamming it how they please. Thats just my guess.

I thought so, but Phara pointed out that even before the team change, Ifrit was seen in a cutscene. They had some things planned out, so it may have been that it was never meant to be Levi, or maybe not. Also, they have been releasing these primals in a order, and it seems that Levi shouldn't be summoned yet.
