Can't even get a weekly reclear going smh
Meanwhile I'm living my best post-apocalyptic life in Dying Light 2. You have to consider that there's a few big name releases happening right now in rapid succession. Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Dying Light 2, and in a little over a week there will be Horizon Forbidden West. Toward the end of the month there will be Elden Ring as well. Considering we're in a bit of a lull until the next patch it only makes sense that people are picking up other games to play, especially these ones.
They’ll be back for 6.1 patch. I just logged in, do my daily roulettes for tomes besides MSQ and logged out playing other games.
Give it a little while for the novelty factor to wear off and it'll be back to the same-old.
I'm ashamed. I paid for censorship to test it out. Doubt i play it for long since it's a Korean game and top down.
Looks like extreme grind for this one. I'll pass.

Pros:
Tons of content
Competitive PvP and PvE endgame
Equalized PvP
Cons:
Nearly endless grind
Money can provide quicker gear upgrades
Incredibly boring leveling process
Lost Ark is fun in low doses. Good combat and all that, but not for me as a main game. Lacks substance and a good story.
It's a Korean MMO, it'll be on life support in a few months.
It's a shame, honestly. People get all sorts of excited when a new MMO is announced and releases, hoping it'll have something that others do not. The demand is always there. It's just that no one really has the guts to innovate in any significant way. MMOs are expensive to make and maintain so I get it. It's a huge gamble that usually doesn't pay off.
Honestly that's kind of my impression too. It's really like the K MMOs I've seen my brother play but with a top down perspective - I don't think it'll be hugely popular for long.
But the devs also said they'd be happy with a few hundred thousand players, so, they do seem to be prepared for it to be niche. Which - if they'd rather make what they like instead of aiming for massively popular, all the more power to them as far as I'm concerned.
Yesterday was new world. Today is lost ark. Tomorrow is ashes of creation.
While I'd love to see more contenders for big titles, I can't see any of them ending up as anything but niche in the long term. Just like the previous two, however, I'm sure AoC will have a lot of launch hype a big launch day/week/month.
Lost Ark is the hype ATM.
It won't last. The game isn't shy about being massively p2w and requiring a ton of grinding. Most players will burn themselves out rather quickly as Lost Ark isn't a game you can just pick up whenever like ff14.
When I first saw the game appear and looked up its business model, I already knew it wasn't for me. I'm surprised so many latch on to it, despite decrying "the state of the MMO" every chance they get. If people keep supporting such practices, nothing will ever change.
I'm not exaggerating when I say...."every time I learn something new about Lost Ark I run further from it"
Today I learned it has loot boxes.
Typical Korean MMORPG:
Super sexy characters to attract players
Strong start but lack of substance (story/character development)
Lack of sustainability and turned mindless grinding.
Weak finish by turning to free to play and charge you nick and dime on in game features.
I don't see how this Lost Ark is going to do anything differs
Here's some fun facts for you guys today:
Amazon is the company publishing the game
This game is not new at all, but in fact a game which has been out in Korea for the past 3 years. Amazon is only publishing it in the west now.
This game is infamous for being a typical korean-grindfest, along with P2W elements.
Amazon also owns Twitch, funnily enough, and is currently running a rewards system where streamers on said platform are paid to give out drops for people who watch their Lost Ark streams for a certain amount of time.
Amazon previously released another similar, grindy P2W MMO called New World, which you've probably heard of.
Similarly, Amazon, owners of both afformentioned games and Twitch, had a program just like with Lost Ark they paid streamers to play New World on Twitch.
Much like Lost Ark has recieved a surge of viewership on Twitch, New World did as well. (Strangely, this viewership actually dwarfs the people who are actually playing the game, but don't think about that too much, it's not at all suspicious that a game has 3 times the amount of people watching vs playing it. Definitely a sign of an organic, and not totally-astroturfed game)
Another interesting fact, New World, which had roughly 1 million peak players during it's hayday of promotion by countless content creators on Twitch, is now currently down to 30k players, a whopping 97% drop in players. Turns out the game had, ontop of P2W elements, giving server-wide benefits to streamers, etc. the game had a slew of game-breaking bugs that the devs never bothered to fix. Which may or may not have had something to do with the 97% afformentioned drop in players.
Well I'm sure the company with this track record of paying streamers off to promote a broken, P2W, grindest that ended up losing virtually their entire userbase in only a couple months, wouldn't do the same thing all over again, and we can trust this this new game won't later be found to be horribly P2W and fundamentally broken as well, be abandoned by the same streamers paid to promote in only 2 weeks before the average player realizes this, and virtually the entire population leaves rendering it a ghost town. I'm sure none of this will happen what with this company's already proven track record.
Surely.
Who is this nobody? I was on all evening yesterday.
Anyway, this game was not released in Netherlands so it says a lot.
Not going to play it since I don't like isometric camera angles. However, the amount of uniformed comments are at the level of "FFXIV is just a weeabo game kek".
I don't understand why everyone randomly got obsessed with this game. It was even shown to me on Steam as similar to ARPGs, which... it's not, lol It's a Korean grinder. Why is anyone paying attention to it? TERA was already a thing. If you're into that sort of thing, sure, but if you otherwise just want to play quality MMORPGs, I'm not sure why Lost Ark is a contender at _all_ and was confused for about a year now. *sigh*
I'm slacking on logging onto FFXIV lately because I've been playing TES: Skyrim when not studying. It's such a wonderful game even when unmodded.
Lost Ark is just another one in the line of "the game to save the MMO genre" IMO. Before WoW was king. Valheim came along for a little, then FFXIV went mainstream even more, New World happened, and now Lost Ark. Knowing the script Eastern MMOs stick to, it's likely not even anything super special aside from being pretty and having a huge publisher and localization for once. Honestly I'm sure if other Eastern MMOs were as artificially hyped up and advertised, with a proper localization, they'd have teeming communities too.
I'm not someone to wish ill on anybody, my gripe is just with the game. It's sad that too few relatively bat an eye to loot boxes, scummy cash shops that bundle currencies in wonky packages on purpose, pay-to-speed-up models and what have you.
You have to realize Lost Ark is already huge in other regions, and one of the few mmos that are actually growing in population, like FF. It actually has staying power this time, it's not just another korean mmo. I'm not a big raider, and I thought Lost Ark had all it's focus on hard raids, but it actually has a lot of other things to do as well, and it's been a lot of fun playing it. I've been quite bored with ff, and I'll be back for 6.1 of course, but lost ark has so much fun content right now that it's making FF look dull by comparison for me.
For FF players, the major con is that you can't freely customize your character, as in you have gender locked classes with no race selection, and there is the isometric top down view. You can zoom in on your character but it's not like FF where you have full control of the camera. Also there is not really a glamour system with the freedom FF provides. I think the in-world immersion and RP potential of FF are way superior, where you feel like you're actually in that world. That makes it so there is no chance Lost Ark will do serious harm to the player numbers of FF.
But the pros... Just by virtue of being a new game there are tons of content to do, if you like minigames and collecting things, raiding and pvp, the game has a ton of that. The combat in Lost Ark is action based, and really fun. It's fun to kill random mobs with no reward at all for example just because the combat is so spectacular. I think the combat can easily carry this game and since it's free to play I can see myself playing that with no pressure just because I'm having fun, I really don't intend on forcing myself to be the best raider or something like that.
Can you explain how it's not a problematic game to play or without typical trappings of Korean like games? Besides "well other people play it!" which doesn't really tell me much. It is very grindy, yes? It has P2W, yes? It has lootboxes, yes? It's hardly the first game of its type.
> I think the combat can easily carry this game
I loved the combat in NW and that was not at all enough to carry it. Ultimately, MMORPGs do not live and die neither by combat nor by graphics.
I expect Lost Ark, being a more tolerable Korean MMORPG, will gain a moderate success. When every game of Korean MMORPG genre is a freemium grindfest with pay-to-progress, people would prefer a better one, even slightly.
And no, not gonna play it. Coming from blade and soul with a similar model and same "play 5+ alts to funnel main", I'm sick of having a game as my second job. And I feel any money thrown at Korean MMORPGs is a waste with their love for RNG/excessively-grindfest upgrade.
Well even i started playing age of empire 2 again and will soon start trying age of empire 4, i only log in in ff14 for pandemonium normal and filling astronomy tomestone, also slow progress with monster Hunt, the thing with ff14 is even if i stop playing for a week or month, i can back again easily and not losing any progress of anything at all
For real, the Gunlancer job has more depth than all of FF14's tanks combined. I miss that HW complexity and I'm finding it in Lost Ark now. I haven't got to endgame yet but I'm already impressed with the job design. I honestly wish Lost Ark succeeds so SE will learn from Lost Ark's strengths. Lost Ark borrows so much from FF14 after all.
Agreed with everything. The job design is truly amazing. Does everything FF14 is failing at. It's funny because for a game with no hard aggro requirement this game has a more complex tanking mechanic than FF14's tanks LOL
I honestly think hardcore players would enjoy Lost Ark more than FF14. After a decade of dumbing down jobs FF14 now has less job complexity than Lost Ark, maybe minus Black Mage.
Moment you go to the character creation it immediately hits your face with the typical Unreal Engine issues. Mini freezing when loading models and "slow" hd texture loading. And many of the armors look like ripped from Tera.
Great thats all I needed to know, Tera has the "bestest" gear eva!!!
Im gonna try this game out :)
I like multiple games on the go..will add this one to my collection , in need of great looking gear again, can only wait so long for a pair of decent stilettos!! ;):D;):D
I've seen the cash shop. It's as pay-to-win as World of Warcraft. (that game also has you grinding for gear and stats). Costumes from the cash shop, and other stuff there can be resold in the auction house after you don't want it anymore, so you can get it with ingame currency. You can also buy the optional monthly sub with ingame currency.
The reason it could be considered pay to win is that with premium currency you can buy the things you could buy with ingame currency, without the grind (which is the same thing that WoW has). Also, combat in new world to this simply doesn't compare.
I can't play it here in the Netherlands. That tells me its prob full of gambling and other shady stuff :)
