Artistic Oversight here or......? (EW Spoilers)

So maybe I'm just nitpicking here, but I noticed something that's bugging me about the Blasphemies, particularily, one of their model types. The big black bidepal bird thingies. I immediately recognized them from ARR, and remembered that the model used is the exact same model for the the Allagan Mirrorknights.

They even have lore (From Fractal Continuum):

"Exhibit IV: The Mirror Knight Wrote:A second-generation construct boasting the strength of a bear and the acute vision of an owl. As with many early efforts at synthesis, lack of intelligence and a proclivity for violence limited its practical use."

I noticed that many of the Blasphemies we encounter use the exact same model/skin. See here @ 1:53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_AKCk14qjE

I find it strange how many people in Endwalker were being transfigured by Dynamis into ancient Allagan Constructs. I understand model re-usage is a thing that happens in this game to the point of often breaking believability, but this is just silly. Did they just take random old models and not consider what those models even were before reusing them? I'd be ok if it had a unique skin so it didn't look like the same creatures, but it's the exact same model just copypasted and now called a completely different thing. This is pretty sloppy.

Most of the blasphemies are just reskinned models, much like sin eaters. A large chunk of them actually resemble voidsent

Yeah but there's reskinning and then there's taking a creature that has it's own established lore and then copy-pasting it's model and then calling it something completely different. Like if they took a chocobo model and then copy-pasted it somewhere else and called it a bear. It suggests they were just taking old enemy models and not considering what they were and sloppily reusing them under different names.

I think its establieshed that the forms of Blasphemies come from the (collective?) minds of transforming individuals. Some of the ones in role quests take on very specific forms related to myth or recent events. It wouldn't be weird if some Allagan specimens remained engraved in mythology (Garuda).

That said, yeah, it probably has a good amount to do with cost saving. It does make for a convenient excuse though, and they can play around with the idea of recurring motifs in history.

It also explains why Thavnair (and the Garlemald End of Days duty) have those monstrous elephant-head beasts, but none of the others appearances do.

In this version of the Final Days the people are literally transforming into their greatest nightmares. All it means when we see a Mirrorknight Blasphemy is that whoever turned into it was exceptionally afraid of Mirrorknights.

Considering the amount encountered in EW that's a considerably large amount of people from Thavnair who have a deep-seated fear of a very specific monster that is rarely seen in the game and absolutely nowhere to be seen in Thavnair. So rare in fact that I forgot they even existed until I saw them as Blapshemies in EW and thought "hey wait a minute.....".

Thavnair is a land of merchants. You don't know where all they've traveled, nor what they've seen in their lives. Nor what they've read in stories or seen in books. You don't have to have swam in the waters with a Great White Shark to be scared of one, for instance.

I guess. Though I don't think that was what SE was thinking when they reused the models along with the other ones they reused, lol.

If you did t5 on launch, you'd be terrified of death knights--I mean Mirrorknights too

I'm sure it wasn't. I mean, they reused a lot of the same things in Amaurot dungeon too. Which now attributes their origin to soul memory. Something something, how convenient. Something something, the ultimate writing out, lol!

This is surprisingly easy to handwave away. You only needed one. We've seen the chain reaction a transformation can cause. Presuming its horrible enough to push another into transforming its not outlandish to assume the image is also impactful enough for the new subject to copy the form after their own transformation.

I mean, Forgiven Violence for example is literally a recolored gorilla. With stool throwing actions and all. Almost all Sin eaters are just palette swaps.

For non sin eaters, many mobs, such as the “ghost” voidsent mobs we turn into under Ala Mhigo are used exactly as blasphemy mobs. There might be slight recoloring…but I didn’t notice.

I'm kind of hoping we'll run into more unique blasphemy types in future MSQ dungeons or side content. The designs of the Amaurot and Vanaspati bosses were really unsettling...but to an extent that made me want to see more of it.

Some regions like the Azim Steppe or the imperial provinces seem like they'd have been bound to have spawned some major blasphemies that would've taken a more concentrated effort to deal with given the strife that is routine to such locales. A dungeon where we help rescue a settlement of one of the bigger Xaela tribes like the Adarkim from a blasphemy with the aid of Sadu, Cirina, and Magnai would be a dream come true.

The theory sounds pretty credible given how each region you visit for the role quests has only one specific type of weaker blasphemy that shows up there...though it could also be related to the emotions the "prime" blasphemy in those lands was harboring as it's mentioned their mere presence seemed to spur on transformations even if they weren't actively troubling the locals.

I wrote this elsewhere, sorry if you've seen it before-

We know the Blasphemies were created while the Song of Oblivion was going on. Now that that's been stopped, we don't know what the mechanism would be to create new blasphemies... like is it similar to a zombie virus spreading via existing blasphemies, or is there still some lingering .."miasma" in the air that can cause those with extreme emotions to shift.

We just don't know, but like you said there is certainly room for the writers to work out the lore.

The person who invented mirror knights were most likely a shard of an ancient who first saw the blasphemy in the first Final Days.
