I think at this point we’re just gonna have to accept the fact that Hroth and Viera will always have limitations.
If they can't be bothered to make hats that doesn't sever a Miqo'te's ears instead of poking through, what hope do Viera have?
not enough budget for that, better buy those nfts to finance viera hats
you do want to be supportive of the game, right?
I don't even expect old hats to work. But when NEW hats don't? Are they even trying? its literally a check box option to turn on hats with clipping, i really don't need SEs permission to use hats, they clearly don't carea bout clipping since the few hats they did add this xpac clip, except the ones they decided not to clip!? Why are the garland ushankas okay but the tome gear and AF (that isn't reaper because lul reasons) not?
It's always been known that Viera and Hrothgars would have big limitations when it comes to headgear.
In fact a lof of what they can wear wasn't even planned at first but was made so by workers working on it during their free time.
The Hrothgar erasure in that OP. I'm on to you bunny boi.
This is still utterly baffling to me. That they really came in and said, have these two new races that are both going to have massive limitations despite getting... next to nothing unique or interesting in exchange. The most unique thing about either of them is Hrothgar's body hair and mega slouch. Like. It's absolutely wild to me that they tried to sell it as "Viera are too unique to wear hats so we're just not going to give them any." Like. What? They have long ears and they're pretty, that's it. We already have two other races with extra body parts and one with a wildly different body type to everyone else, but long ears is just a step too far? Ok.
Idk, still seems like a super bizarre design decision.
I see nothing wrong with ears poking through hats though? I was wearing the reaper hood today and I thought it looked great... wearing an actual hat was so mesmerizing to me I struggled to focus in the dungeon because I kept zooming in and checking myself out. With certain hats, more specifically the Red mage hats I think our ears poking out would still look good. If the look worked in FF tactics then it surely can work in XIV.

Welcome to corporate gaming! :D
It was stated before the race was available that they would not be able to wear any headgear but some devs worked (for free I assume) behind the scenes to make some headgear available. I doubt this is ever going to change - bunny ears and hats just do not mix.
I'll +1 this. If this post can bring just one hat in the future for those adorable bunnies I'm all for it.
What bugs me the most right now is.. We can wear the dungeon hats.. but we cannot wear HALF of the AF gear hats - which literally comes AFTER all the dungeons. Like what. I fail to see logic in here where there should be some. óô
Huh? I don't have an issue with ears poking through hats, in fact I want them to, or at least have ear pockets. Almost all the new headgear models cut off a miqo'te's ears in EW. If they cannot be bothered modify a hat on a race that can already wear hats to allow their ears to show, why would they put in the effort allow Viera to properly wear a hat?
Now that I think about it, that is kind of weird, isn't it? Reaper is the only Job in the entire game that doesn't give a crap what you're wearing, because it auto-glamours you during your rotation into a bland robe that erases your ears/horns. So why did they bother making the effort to make Reaper's hat work with Viera?
Makes no since that they can't wear all the head gear yet. They made the head gear work for cat race and au ra's but can't for the viera is weird.
Without encouraging the use of something that violates the TOS (and thus covering my own rear by saying such,) I would now like to innocently point out that a mod (multiple actually) already exists to allow Viera and Hrothgar to allow many (if not almost all) hats and helmets in the game. Any excuse from SE as to why they can't do it is just that, an excuse. If corporate is just refusing to allow them to allocate time and resources to such a thing I'd rather they just come out and say as much. If the people that make these mods can do it, I see no reason SE can't manage it.
Whatever the base reason for it is, the logic is that hats can work if they do not interfere with hair at all OR they fully hide the hair.
Hats that replace the top half of the hair but leave the lower half visible do not work.
If it's as simple as "modders can tick a box and it works", I don't see why they continue to stick to the distinction with what works officially, so perhaps the mods are able to do something in the back end that can't be controlled when equipping it in the base game? Does the hair model stay switched on and clipping through the hats?
Hair would clip through hats as none of the hair is set up the same way as other races, though making it so shouldn't be a challenge for SE, considering they do it all the time. Figure they just gave up cause the ears would clip through some stuff and that's the only thing that would be an issue otherwise.
I'm surprised that Viera aren't able to wear special hats.
Like, mogstation hats, seasonal ones, or even item code ones like Matoya'a Hat.
If Viera could wear Matoya'a Hat I'd be one.
(Maybe not forever, but I'd def fantasia back and forth between that and my Lala)
I guess I'm half in both camps. I was more than agreeable at the start: No hats or hair? Well, they said it was for unique customizations that no other race has access to. Viera specific hair releases and lots of options!
We didn't get that. The fact they are unlocking hair instead of giving us new ones, and male viera were made with hair in mind, proves this was a dead-on-arrival idea. That customization? Only one set of ears actually have physics and wiggle/move around when you do (ironically it is the very stiff looking pair).
I'm still begging SE to make good on their promise that these races were limited for special exclusives. In fact, I'm asking more of SE than just letting us use MAs and hats.
That or just accept that Yoshi-P and the devs absolutely despise both Hrothgar and Vierra players in general. And at this point should accept mods (cause at least someone will do it when Squeenix devs won't even bother to try after new expansion releases).
Seriously, if they just say they hate new race players, and I think we'd (at this point) accept it over gobshite excuses.
The best part of this story is that I see the community solving this problem while SE doesn't care.
But if we install mods, we can get banned. If we don't install it, we stay here, watching more new hats launch, not having a glimmer of hope that we'll be able to use.
Do you know what made me laugh today? Realize that the new event brings another hat, which I won't be able to wear =)
That's not really fair, SherlottaEryut has been very vocal about the need for more hairstyles/headgear for Hrothgar/Viera.
But after a while it starts to sink in that in all likelihood these races are never going to function like all the others, so too much time spent being vocal and annoyed about this is just wasted.
If we give bunnies clothes then they will be free. It cannot happen.
I think that Mogstation hair and hats should be 100% wearable. First, it's a paid cosmetic since it would bring in more customers if said hats look good for Viera.
Also echoing this, if Au'ra and Miqo can wear hats and every hair in the game, I can't really imagine Viera can't either.
Looking at male viera, they're share the same stance and jump as male miqo. As for the hats, most things clip anyway and the ones that have coverings for the ears are kinda busted looking anyway.
Idk if it's spaghetti code situation, but they should really consider hiring and training a team for updating/upkeep, and yes I understand you can't throw money at things to make it work. But refitting older/existing gear should be intern-level work as proven by mods from at home folks. I get wanting an efficient small team that knows what they're doing but small, busy work like this shouldn't have to be done by seasoned 3D model teams–that's why you bring in new people to slow them into the team. The bigger the game gets will only show how overworked a small team is.
And the whole "this is what you get for asking for more races," doesn't hold water. SE will add more races as long as the demand is there. It's profitable. And as much people complain about the limitations, people will still play as them.
Though seeing as they only added a few new hairs for female viera, it's pretty bleak.
I understand the incredible workload that prevents the dev team from implementing all of these features at once, but Final Fantasy is defined by some legendary hats. Dragoon's helmet, Red Mage's chapeau, and Black Mage's petasos. At the very least, they shoulda made sure every viera and hrothgar can wear every AF headgear, if very little else.
Yeah, I don't think it particularly matters if someone asks for them to focus on more hairstyles vs. hats or more hats vs. hairstyles (or even both). At this point they're well aware of what people want, and they either can't do it or won't devote the resources to doing it.
Viera is still my favourite playable race so if the mood strikes me or they finally decide to make an effort for these races I'll definitely play as one again, but I'm not spending another expansion getting worked up after getting ignored again every patch.
For now I've sadly given up on them and playing a race that can actually use anything and everything I've bought and earned in the game instead.
All hats probably not, but you will think any new added ones will be usable by every race... but here we are. I don't dislike Vier, however, the only reason I'm still one is because I just refuse to give SE money by getting a fantasy.
I still hope we will get hats unlocked at some point. It's crazy that this game has races which are played by many and cannot use hats... and they keep releasing gearsets and event rewards with hats lol.
I don't care about clipping, just let me clip my ears through my bard and rdm hats.
Blame male viera. Cost us all on that dev time.
