Multishell Materia Melding and Craft Fair

History: The folks from Fabul had a great concept, a multishell craft fair. We managed to have this happen once or twice on Balmung but it sort of petered out. This week the pearl was disbanded for it. However the Explorers really really want to keep this thing going. If Abbadon doesn't have time to lead this we are happy to take the lead.

Ideas: Specifically I want to bill this as a materia melding and crafting fair.
Time: I am thinking Sunday's. What do you all think?

In case you all are out of the loop, we've changed the focus of the craft/materia fair to align with the needs of the relic weapon quest. By reading the posts in this thread, you can see how we determined the most streamlined way to complete the quest. I'll keep this post updated with the mats we need most along with other useful info related to the event.

Items Created So Far for Quests

Molly and I have talked in game. We have a new shell for the event. In the US it is Mother's Day so this might not be the best week to restart things. I am thinking next week.
I know that I am a 49 weaver but I constantly want materia melds for things like gsm. My plan is to stand around and weaver meld anything anyone wants that I can.

We had a good time on Sunday. Lucky Max triple melded an item for me!
Sundays at 3pm est! We will repair you!

Hell yeah, Max was on a roll on Sunday, and it wasn't even a full moon.

bumpity bump. We had a good size crowd last week, lets get another one this Sunday! Come on out for your melding/crafting/whatever needs.

Let me know what you think Della, as well as if you have any ideas for distributing completed gear. My suggestion would be to keep a public list somewhere of what people have provided and when, then start from the top down. Those that provided the most mats and helped craft parts would be first and move on down the list until everyone has at least one piece, then start at the top again for the second piece etc.

Let me discuss the details with my ls tonight.

I think the easiest solution for the list would be a spreadsheet on google docs and have one person that's able to update the list. That way, everyone has to give mats to a single person so nothing gets lost or unreported, and we don't have too many people mucking with the list. That list would also need to be updated as soon as the person donates mats or their time, again so that nothing gets lost or unreported.

For fairness, the list would need to be maintained military style, the post must be made on the spreadsheet before the donator hands over any mats. The donator could then check the list to make sure they get full credit for their donation. Only after both sides have verified the donation would any mats change hands.

I think the best way to determine which donator gets gear first, would be to give each mat a weighted value. (Before we get too far into this, understand I'm not much of a crafter so these values may need adjusting.) Ores for example, could have a weight of 1, where as ingots might have a weight of 3 (or maybe 4). Plates might have a weight of 8 or more. This way, if somebody hands over a stack of ore, they get placed in list in the correct position in relation to somebody who donates a full stack of ingots or plates.

That sounds good to me as long as we have someone willing to manage the thing.
Also I have had a request that we do some stuff for lower end players sometimes as well.
(We have a newbie help shell.)

It might take me a while, but I'll get a spreadsheet whipped up to put on google docs that will take care of the weighted values for mats so that nobody has to do the math (and so that the math can't be screwed up by a person). I think the best way to handle it is to have one tab on the spreadsheet per week (so one tab per gear piece).

Once we have all that worked out, we just need to make a decision like a week beforehand for what we'll be focusing on the following week. That will give everyone time to collect mats. The question that comes to mind is how will we notify everyone once we figure out what mats we need for the next week? There are several different solutions, maybe the easiest of which would be to create a thread in this forum weekly to announce what the focus of the next session will be.

I was thinking some more about this and have some additional input. If we do this, we'll need to come up with a more rigid schedule in addition to checking mats and completed gear in and out. So that we make sure all the donated mats are accounted for, we'll have to be fairly strict about turning them in at the start of the event. We'll have to play it by ear the first time, but depending on how long it takes we may need to limit check in to about the first hour, maybe less.

As soon as the first person is done turning in their mats, the crafters can start, but everyone will need to wait in line so that we can keep the checking in of mats organized. It'll be chaos otherwise.

It's about the sunday swap meet. We're working out details as to how to give the swap meet a weekly goal and to simultaneously outfit shell members with the best gear. Since this is a multishell event, we have no private place for this type of discussion so it needs to happen here.

Alright, I finished working on a spreadsheet on Google docs (link below) to track what mats have been turned in along with weighted values for each mat. I think that using something like this will be the most fair way to distribute high-end gear that we make during these events. I'll keep this updated each week as we focus on various gear. Now we just need to decide when to start, and what gear to start with.

Regardless of what the focus is that week, we'll take any mats listed in the first column of the mats tab on my spreadsheet. I'll keep it updated if we need to add more gear. I tried to make sure I had any mat that could possibly be used to create the new gear, but there is a chance I missed something, so let me know if you see something missing.

Della & Molly - As one of the lower ranking crafters in this linkshell I have to say I am really impressed and have an absolute blast at the Sunday craft faires. Would one of you add a link to the first page to the Lodestone linkshell listing? You all might want to utilize the Blog feature in that for announcements also. Don't know if that is feasible but I thought I might throw that out there.

@Molly-ty for taking the time to put together the spreadsheet. I wanted to take this opportunity to say TYVM for all that you have done for Balmung since the merge. We are all better for it!

I still have to add the latest synths to the spreadsheet, but creating/maintaining that thing is no problem. I like doing that kind of thing. I don't think we'll be starting with the high-end synths just yet. Most likely we'll get a feel for which items folks want first. (my guess is the ones used in the relic quests) Then we can come up with a schedule for the weeks ahead. This thing is picking up steam, so I think as long as we keep participation up it will be a huge benefit to our server.

I'll collect mats on my alt, Tessier Ashpool, so that I can give everyone credit for everything they donate. This way, distribution of the finished products will be done as fairly as possible.

If you want to start this on your server, you can dl my spreadsheets from here. In the .zip, I've provided two spreadsheets. Mats.xls has all of the formulas needed to determine point values for donated mats (on the "member Donations Template"), Mats 2.xls does not have them. Mats 2.xls should be uploaded to google docs (the formulas were removed due to a limitation in google docs spreadsheets). Then every week, you'll need to have somebody update Mats.xls with donated mats, then copy the values from the Mats.xls (local copy) to the Mats 2 on google docs so that the donations are visible to the donators.

You'll need to create a tab for each member of the craft fair. (copy and rename the member donation template tab.) then on the 'Member Point & Requests' tab, you need to change the formula in cell C2 (for example) to something like this: ='Adaulfo Krieger'!B$86 where Adaulfo Krieger is the exact same name as one of the member tabs. All participants should give a list of which items they want which will be displayed on the 'Member Point & Requests' tab. When an item is passed to one of the members, change the received column to 'yes' that corresponds to the member that received it. When you do that, the member's point totals will be updated. Distributing finished products according to who has accumulated the most points and wants the finished product will allow the finished products to be distributed as fairly as possible. The idea is to create some transparency into the process that determines who gets finished products.

Just stopping by to say that the first week after changing focus was very much a success! We'll see the first Mailbreaker get passed out in our group next week. (It's on my alt.) Thanks goes to everyone who donated mats, keep 'em coming!

Just an fyi, next week we need HQ gold nuggets and coke pretty badly. We also need some hq hypogryph skins. Also, I edited the 2nd post to keep it updated with the mats we need and other useful info.

An idea to ponder. You know how with so many people in one spot you can't see everyone. Well, As this shell grow I am thinking if we split up via craft job and spread out a bit, this may relieve some of the congestion at the fountain. Just a thought, catch ya later!

I had an idea about how to use some of this NQ darksteel ore we're gonna end up with too actually. I'm waiting for Jet to tell me if some things are possible with his bestiary first though. Maybe you can guess what I'm thinking of. :P

It's time for another craft fair in a few hours. If you don't have a large LS, or are in an LS that is lacking crafters or gatherers, the craft fair is your chance to get the weapon you need for the relic quest or fill your other crafting needs. I'll be collecting donations on my alt, Tessier Ashpool, a bit early if you'd like to participate. This week we are especially in need of Trilluim +1, Trillium Bulb +1, Copper Ore +1, Gold Ore +1, and Coke.
