IM LITTERALLY A HEALER!

(No Spoilers) Dont you just love it when you go through the MSQ as LITTERALLY A HEALER, and there is someone dieing or injured right in front of you, and all you can do is just stand there and watch, cant even lift a finger, or even offer to heal them.

I know it is often the healer role in this game gets the shaft in nearly everything from class and combat design to clothing and glamour, but cmon SE, its the little things that go a long way. :(

Some of these things tend to be job-specific rather than role specific. You usually get the option to save them if you're on Warrior.

i remember in Shadowbringer if you are a healer you will actually help Alphinaud heal someone in a cutscene.

In Stormblood, if you were a healer during the cutscene when Y’shtola gets hurt by a certain friend of ours you would help Krile to heal her.

tbh im glad we got the option before the first dungeon where we got acknowledged as the best healer because I was fuming at the screen when we were ignored.

why couldn't we get the easy part in that bit of the story as the healer, but nooo we have to go climb the damn tower.

I like to seperate «dead» and «fainted».
Hence the debuff «Brink of death» for party… mayby npc people are weak otherwise? But i do wonder why i just cant crit adlo in cutscenes tho…

It's good they throw a few bones in cutscenes like that. Of course, there's still the problem I have with most videogames with cutscenes that's just inherent in the medium- "MWAHAHAHA, I'm on the other side of the room and in a monologue! You can't stop me now!" *character draws weapon and grits teeth...menacingly*

I'm there the entire time muttering "You're a MAGE. Blow him up. Six seconds have gone by. Ten. Twenty. You haven't blasted him yet. Aaaaaaaand he's gone. Good job."

You're also literally a fighter, but only actually "fight" (if it can be called that) in 2 scenes in the entirety of the MSQ. Otherwise, you take out your weapon and watch all of the people you're with fight.

I did like that they added us helping healing in a couple CSs... but yeah, this annoys me greatly.

I second this. There are more than a handful of times where the big bad is standing there doing big bad things and I'm just standing there 6 feet from him scowling and making faces. Just cut his head off and be done with it.

Healing in the canon lore isn't nrlearly as quick as it is in gameplay...

That's atleast what someone told me ages ago! ^^

I think at this point I just assume that it's an honour thing. It's dishonourable to attack someone while their back is turned, so perhaps it's also dishonourable to do so when they're waxing lyrical about the meaning of life and other nihilistic things. Still frustrates me to no end.

This is canonically the case, actually, at least in terms of lore.

When someone's down in a fight in this combat system, they're not meant to be dead; they're still alive, albeit sorely wounded and unconscious. As such, our raise abilities aren't actually restoring the dead to life; it's more like a paramedic giving someone a shot of adrenaline and a blood transfusion to get them back on their feet, then shoving them back into the fight. (Hence the "Weakness" debuff the first time, and "Brink of Death" the second, and why people rez with very little health.)

The way I tend to think of it is that most healing in this game is basically aether transfusion. When someone's wounded but not mortally so, it's like they're a bowl where the aether's been spilled out; we can refill that bowl with additional fresh aether and encourage their body to speed the mending process along. If someone's truly mortally wounded, though... that's more like you punched a hole in the bowl. No matter how much new aether you pour in, it's still just going to leak right back out that hole.

Sometimes, paramedics—and blood transfusions—aren't enough to save someone. And we, alas, are the paramedics.

(Besides, if we were actually raising the dead, that's not healing... that's necromancy.)

I liked how they actually translated Haurchefants death into gameplay mechanics for Thordan Extreme. The group needed to intercept the spear throw to spread the damage out, one person was not enough, and anyone hit by the spear got a massive healing reduction debuff for a few seconds, preventing any healing. If anyone died from this, it was considered a full group wipe. Why? Because that person is dead. Not unconsious. Dead. D E D dead. Permanently.

So that's why you couldn't heal Haurchefant. The attack that got him negates healing and the damage was so high there was no way Haurchefant could survive it.
