This guide is purely for speculative purposes. For people who would like input on what jobs are coming and to suggest how they should be created. I do not know for certain how new skills and abilities would effect game play, but much consideration has been put into my guide.

Hello everyone!

Hi everyone I've updated the guide making more pleasing on the eyes, and It is now available through dropbox. Alot more of the information has been filled in but is lacking skill descriptions for classes making some skills a little ambiguous to my audience. I hope you enjoy the plethora of combinations the job system has to offer!

Hi again all, skill description have been added for each job and class and I have also added some flavor images to get the ol' Final Fantasy feel. The guide is almost complete and just needs a few more thing before I'm done editing it.

I actually really like a lot of these ideas. The musketeer line of course is the most interesting to me, but I really like the ideas for dancer and puppetmaster as well.

I do 3 for a reason though. Having so many roles per one job will help to secure a spot in partys for leveling your classes and doing content, and since this is horizontal growth were talking about here I thought best of WoW's talent trees and how you can spec in 3 different ways. This is pretty similar except your not getting bonuses out of the tree, your directly becoming the job suited for the task.

Love the idea of 2-3 jobs per class. I've posted thoughts on multi jobs on single classes before, so i'll be brief:

I think Classes could do with some skills to fulfill 2-3 roles themselves (DD/Tank/Heals/Buff/Debuff) And then let jobs specialize on one.)

Example: Lancer, Add some tanking type skills and maybe ranged skills (Throwing spears find a use?)

Now as a class, Lancer can Off tank, but not as well as a Job, DD, but not as well as a job etc.

Then apply Jobs:
Lancer becomes Dragoon = DD specialized
Lancer becomes (Long staff user) = Tanking specialized

Easier route would probably to make another classes skills and apply Perks to those to get the same result (Lancer tanking (long staff user) perks apply to MRD Parry/tanking skills. But i'd advocate giving each Class its own skills (and some varied skill animations for the love of god) to keep each classes flavor)

What you get from such a setup: Each CLASS gets a couple base roles that they can perform on a median level of effectiveness. Giving SE the ability to make some extreamly dynamic dungeons. One boss may have 5 adds needing spot off tanking. Another may need to be burned down.

JOBS perform a single role ad a high level. I think this would really hinge on SE denying JOB change in dungeons. But perhaps not CLASS change. You want versatility on a wide scale: Bring a CLASS. Want to specialize and bring the best of a specific role, bring a JOB.

This may be one of the few ways i can think of that will both keep classes more relavent with the existance of jobs. And also save us from having a DD class with 2-3 DD jobs (in which one is generally concidered the best), a lack of tanks (one can hope) since you can have many flavors of tank.

-------------------Red mage--------------

I'd like to see a melee spell caster/swordsman, who casts/weapon effect debuffs on an enemy, and then converts that debuff to a party buff via spellcasting. This could also be used to change a Debuff placed on you or a party member into a buff for the group.

This is a type of mechanic one rarely finds in a game, but when found can be extreamly fun as opposed to a long list of Debuffs to cast and a long list of buffs to cast.

Example:
RDM uses WS with effect: Magic ACC down on enemy.
RDM casts "Conversion spell" on same enemy.
Party revices Magic ACC up Buff


So much for being Brief. ^^

While I doubt SE would add so many jobs and classes, I would love it if all of your ideas actually happened.

I thought this myself, which led me to a few things. Isn't this setup ultimately what XIV will become under the current system? If this is the case, I say just do away with classes altogether. I kinda like this idea of having (as in the current system) jobs as an extension of your current class, but ultimatley isn't that what most jobs in FF are about? They each are/have an extension of another.

Simple example: In FF Tactics, you could start off with just a few basic jobs, lets say I chose Squire. After hit level 2 I am able to chose Knight as my job... AND Knight would be an extension of the initial job that it came from....kinda like how you get WAR from MRD.


How XIV's class/job system is now is just outright dumb. Why do I point this out as just an outright dumb idea? The classes don't stand out. There's very little, if ever a reason to use them, or their abilities, since the corresponding jobs share the same actions/abilities. The gear for them just sucks and is a total waste of time, gil, inv space to have and use. Plus not only that, if classes didn't exist and it was just jobs, things would just be so much easier and the market wards could be cleaned up of items and gear that are only class specific.*

*(which brings me to another thing: Why is it that we can buy CSE? Isn't CSE suppossed to be something to help your class standout and give people a reason to use classes? But it seriously doesn't. I don't really get it. But thats for another thread a better time)

Imagine this scenario, it's the thought that encouraged this post:

Say you have an AF weapon for BLM, and you are currently WAR. But you want to change to BLM, so you select your AF weapon to change your job. BUT you can't. You need to switch to THM first, since BLM AF weapon is equiped by BLM only. You would need to have ANOTHER weapon that you could use to change to THM before you could ever change to BLM.

It just sounds so odd of a system to actually be true. Let alone something we currently pay for.

Also too, if it is indeed going to be this odd of a system, I truly hope they don't cut our inventory spaces like they said they would come 2.0. Cuz by the sound of it, if I have AF for each job one day, I'm going to HAVE TO have a weapon to change to my classes first.

:/ I think the job system is excellent. Classes are way better to solo with. Have you ever stacked blindside, blood for blood, invigorate, quellingstrike, and multishot on you archer? You essentially blow an enemy away if its your level, bards cant do that. The gear does not suck for classes. Dont be mad just because they arn't making AF for them. All other gear is pefectly fine to equip on your class. Also by using materia class gear can by far exceed the abilities of those that are job specific. Furthermore the MW has been cleaned up. Its not that difficult to figure out which gear goes to who. Its sorted by equipment type so familiarize yourself.

Theres nothing odd about this. I carry a differnt weapon for my classes usually then my jobs anyways. Such as conjurer I like to have a Tremor wand or a Gale wand which can be melded and made really strong. If I swtich to white mage ill usually be focusing on healing so then I just hit my handy white mage macro and get chiran zabrans tempest. Now as to why you wouldnt have the base class weapon on you i dont understand your logic, because your leveling the class not the job, so you should appreciate your class more, and if your not soloing with it i promise you your f***king your self over on combat when your doing leves.

I keep wanting to chime in on this but I get lost trying to critique some of the setups you've made. One thing that keeps catching my eye is Musketeers "Tranquilizer" I feel like that might be to strong considering that in a sense the counterpart for Archer is Shadow bind which only binds the target while Tranq would most likely sleep the target. And of course lol Trigger Happy is just to OP as shown in FF8.

So I'm trying to base this on the 8 abilities one can use during Irvine's LB to give an idea of how they could melee.
So basically I came up with this.

Normal Shot Single Target bulnt dmg 1k TP

Flame Shot Single Target fire based dmg 1k TP

Quick Shot "Combo Normal Shot "Allows reuse instanstly" 500TP

Canister Shot "AOE ACC Down -deals no dmg- "Combo Flame Shot: Removes AOE ACC effect and deals AOE fire dmg instead" 1.5k TP

Scatter Shot Fire 3 bullets at target "Combo Normal Shot: Changes to Cone AOE" 1.5k

Armor Shot "Att that ignores defense" Combo -Canister Shot-:Deals extra dmg 2k

Dark Shot "Low ACC that deals double crit if lands" Combo: Increases ACC of att but lowers crit to single 1.5k

Hyper Shot "Deals Heavy Dmg to Single Target "Combo: Scatter Shot "Turns into cone AOE but increases recast" 2k


Normal-Scatter-Hyper

Normal-Quick

Flame-Canister-Armor

Flame-Dark

The idea behind this is a long range DD that deals more brute dmg but lacks enfeebling utility through their WS. Somewhat like Puglist in the sense they are able to inflict high dmg to a single target however they are able to use AOE moves through combos. Basically the Musketeer's combos encourage AOE dmg while Archer's combo kinda discourage it in a sense ala Quick Nock's conversion to single Target during an combo. With that though maybe Hyper Shot should only cost 2k like the Archer's final move so think I'll change that but leave the rest as it.

As for abilities, let's see I think this is where enfeebles could be introduced but require TP in order to activate such as

Aim Arm: Next "Shot" targets arm which may inflict slow -also influences incapacitate- 500 TP 30 second recast

Aim Leg: Next "shot targets Leg which may inflict eva down -also influence incapacitate- 500 TP 30 second recast

Cross-hairs: Increases Crit hit rate 15 second duration 2min recast -effect reduced when Volley is active-

Volley: Reduces Recast of "Shot" for each successful hit, stacks up to 3 times and resets upon a miss

QuickFire: "Reduces global colldown -bullet reload effecting all WS mobes- in half" 15 second duration recast 3 mins

Pistol Whip "Single target Stun deals dmg" Recast 3min

Gloat "Temporarily increase enmity gains to increase att power" Duration 30 second, recast 3mins

The idea behind these abilities is to give them some enfeeble utility to further pull them apart from an Archer's Job role as an enhancer. Aim Arm/Leg are pretty much carried over from FF Tactics but their concept works differnetly. Just like how barrage changes light shot into a multi-hit attack, These two moves both change Shot based on which one you activate however these also cost TP to use which is why the duration to reuse is much lower then that of barrage.

Volley is similar to Raging Strike except rather then improve att power it instead reduces the recast time of reloading after a shot is fired.

QuickFire is a burst type ability allowing a Musketeer to unload a lot of TP moves without having to wait for the global reload cooldown, the downside is a lot of enmity can be gained during this time.

Pistol Whip is pretty much a saving grace ability used to temporarily get a mob off you for a limited amount of time

Gloat is the idea that Musketeer's are more cocky then their archer counterparts, while Archer hides their presence a Musketeer is not afraid to show himself out in the open and because of this presence they have it allows them to improve their att power while the ability is active.

But ya one main difference I'd like to set apart from Archer is the fact that after each shot is fired there is a delay based on the delay of the weapon before you can fire off another shot or weaponskill, because of having to reload after each attack. Archer's can easily ready another arrow but a Musketeer has grab another bullet, open the chamber and insert another bullet into the chamber and close it before firing again.

I'm not sure how I would work traits but I think this would develop an interesting play-style unique to it's counterpart Archer, I tried to develop it in such a way that it wouldn't just be an archer with a gun and slower recast but something that could define itself unique from Archer.

After reading through I just got so much nostalgia from playing tactics. I REALLY hope they do something like this but further divide the difference between two jobs from the same class.

Haha Great minds think alike. I've been attempting to read through your link throughly but the work computer i'm using tends to have issue with almost anything. I'll be able to get a good look tomorrow at home.

I'd like to see SE put a little more focus towards any class or job that does low damage having ACC to make up for it somewhat. GLD/PLD is a posterboy for that. Why they are still keeping low dmg/low acc and why they think thats a positive design i don't know, but i'm hardly a fan of it. High damage peaks and valleys are understandable, but low damage being the same or worse is just piling on the frustration.

Hmm well I recycled alot of abilties that got removed as to not have to think up my own, as for skill descripition I still need to think about it. In level progression of abilities I also considered other classes to ensure your getting useful abilites at a fair rate.
Tranquilizer yes was purposely made as a shadowbind counterpart to have some kind of distancing tactic, as combos will probably require range. They both release through attack so i fail to see how a sleepshot is much different than an immobilize.

Aim: Tactics are introduced in the ranger section but im still constructing it. Also I wouldn't want to increase the musketeers enmity as none of them are a tank job either. Realisticly whats going on is musketeer is like the thaumaturge of ranged attacks, they deal very strong damage compared to an archer like conjurer. But the draw back is that guns require you to reload them often, so you cant constantly fire in the way that archers do.

I never said the job system wasn't excellent. And for the record, I've had no issue with either class/job system until quite recently. I just don't understand why we can't just have jobs or just classes. Why both? There's no real big distinguishing abilities imo. Sure you have 5 special JSA, and you can equip a certain amount of abilities/spells into your class action bar.....but regardless how you look at it, the core of each job and corresponding class is the same. Look at thm/blm--- pug/mnk---lnc/drg. It just seems strange to me that there are 2 different "jobs" that use polearms, 2 different "jobs" that use hand to hand, 2 that use axes, neither of those sets are quite different from the other...... As a follower and loyal fan of the FF series, this just doesn't seem to make sense and is not just repetitive, its unlike FF in general. Also too, I really don't see how classes are better for soloing. Most of the time I spend on this game is solo, and since jobs came out, I've found no viable or legit reason to use a class. Jobs are just better imo.

I, for the most part, have a few weapons for my class/jobs on me at any given time. HOWEVER I was only using a hypothetical situation where, somwhere down the line could potentially run into this stupid issue. Once AF weapons come out, I want to be able to equip AF weapons and become whatever corresponding job it changes me to, not be in a situation where I want to change my job, but can't since I only have AF weapon and nothing to change me into the class that enbles me to change to job.

Also, I am most def not mad that classes aren't coming out with Af, but again, I think its weird. If you want them to stand out, shouldn't they have AF? If they are worth really even having and being a part of the game, shouldn't they be special? DOF/DOH are getting AF from what I understand, one day, but why not classes? To me, if classes are to stay, they need to have some lore, and be special. ALSO all the classes already have had quests that correspond to each, how hard would it be to work it into the story and make them AF like they did for the jobs?

Regarding the arch vs bard comment, I'm not saying what you said is a bad idea. I like the fact that we can use a few abilites from any class we like, but if I was wanting to deal that kind of damage and I was soloing, I wouldnt be wasting arrows, I'd be using BLM :P

Hey everyone since the part two of the players poll came out, I thought it would be a good idea to bring this thread back up seeing as how jobs were relevant to the poll. Feel free to comment or present your own unique ideas! ^^

I am hoping for a Beastmaster and Thief class/job whatever.

Fantastic ideas! Exceptionally well well thought out and it all flows very nicely~ You have a very good grasp on how to make your proposals feel very FF-ish -- an area where most others fail miserably.

Your Templar, Engineer, and Red Mage builds are especially nice -- Hunter with a pet (ala FFXI DRG) is a nice touch as well. Some builds like Time Mage and Viking may need a bit of fleshing out/refinement (have you considered the 'break' armor/weapon/etc.. abilities?)

I would love to play the game with a job setup like this. (Even with the hated Necromancer in there :p )

Nice thread! I really loved these ideas! This would really keep me interested in pretty much all of the classes.
