Got them all to 80 and need to decide which to max out first. Looking for inspiration and anecdotes.
Probably Ninja for me because of the support skills it had (Smokescreen, Goad, slashing debuff, old TA), the dots and the limited amount of positionals it had. Nowdays, since all of that was removed and all melees only got 2 moves with positionals.. well, they kinda all feel the same for me. It's a par for Ninja and Dragoon for me, because the class fantasy is really good for both.
Monk, because other Melee dps are just being a handful.
Monk. I prefer the fluid skill usage over 1-2-3 in sequence.
Sam is next up but I dislike how many pointless buttons they have. Pressing three separate versions of the same button is just silly bloat.
Samurai
I Like those big ass damage numbers.
Gotta give dragoon a shoutout. Been my main through the entire story. Hitting a group with those line AOEs never gets old. Solo or group, doesn't matter, I'm always putting out tons of damage. And now that they removed the timer for Blood of the Dragon it's way easier to save those nasty combos for when you really need them.
I like the SAM resource system and feel the most, but the button bloat is just too much.
So MNK it is.
Reaper is my all time fave melee dps. Unleash the inner evil in you.
Red Mage, 'cause I can do magic too.
SAM for now, until Monk gets back its positionals and a bit more, besides, to do between Blitzes.
Loved 5.0 NIN, though. Would love to get that back but with a buffed Meisui and the streamlined TCJ...
Honestly i would like to move ninja, but that stupid run animation set me off.
Like se, please, let me use rogue animations (ik it's the default stance)
Otherwise Sam because big numbers, Monki neurons activation
Yea the run animation is by far the worst thing to me. XI nin didn't run like that, none of the mainline nins or assassin's ran like that. None the better ninja games like Tenchu or Ninja gaiden ran like that. I can only assume the narutard meme was true and now we all have to suffer for this.
SAM. Big numbers. Ogi Namikiri animation.
After got all melee except Nin to lvl 90, I would say SAM and RPR have a very good flow in their rotations, I might play these 2 jobs more than MNK and DRG at this rate.
Loving reaper, it feels very comfy and its easy to pick up. My monk feels wrong missing so many ogcd and positional to fill my time, samurai is very satisfying job too. I really do like these three (praying for monk to become busy again), not so bothered about DRG or NIN.
I guess my fav Melee would be Monk, I started playing it because Monks are rather rare class cause not many players play it for various reasons, it also has a high skill ceiling and sound effects of beating someone up and getting big numbers is quite satisfying.
Now with the new dash, I can be like Goku.
I’ve never really liked melee jobs, I like to have flexibility in my class, I thought I could get into ninja because it had the ninjutsu for range, but the burst always felt too tight and the speed of the class was overwhelming so I could never pick it up, same reason I didn’t like monk.
Dragoon I just never really liked anything about it, the rotation was boring, I didn’t like the aesthetic, it just wasn’t the class for me. Samurai was enjoyable and simple to play, if I had to pick a main melee dps it would have been samurai. Reaper feels similar to samurai and I like the aesthetic, it just feels kind of one note having very limited range options and some of the design feels a little outdated, but I have picked it up as my new main melee for now.
DRG for me, straight forward dps, cool armor overall design, spear, estinien is total bro
also win award for being professional at inspecting the floor
Dragoon and Monk for me, i have all jobs at 80, but those two seemed more interesting than the rest. Samurai feels slow and boring to play, Ninja is pretty fun and quick, havn't given the Reaper a look yet.
Just add a /ninpose option so you can wield your blades the way you want to.
Simples!
(NIN btw, I'm loving it)
Reaper
Animations are great
gameplay/rotation is cool
love being an Edgy boy.
MNK, I love fighting games and fist fighters and MNK + BLM was what I played in ARR and onward.
Currently I'd put NIN at a second place it feels very smooth to play imo and I actually like Raiju a lot.
NIN might be my favorite tho when the buffs come the imbalance is definitely affecting my view of it, it kinda feels shitty how much they're underperforming.
SAM might've been a second if I didn't find the sound effects to be really annoying.
It's hard to explain them they don't sound like a sword but are very sharp and loud, SAM is really fun to play imo but the sound effects eventually tend to kinda get to me and become frustrating to listen to.
Reaper and Dragoon AKA Edgyboi and Ultimate Chad
Reaper for me. Not only is it aesthetically super cool, but the flow of the rotation just feels so intuitive and fun, and there's so many small optimizations to do in the moment you can do. It's just constantly engaging.
I know it's the "flavor of the month" notion but yeah - Reaper. It just has such smooth gameplay to it.
My favorite ranged DPS is still Dancer for the same reason.
As the game ages they get better and better at class design. I need to try out the new summoner to see if, being new - it has better design than older classes. And yeah - favorite healer is Sage. Gunbreaker makes my exception - I liked it but not enough for it to be my preferred tank.
My favorite would be monk. It’s the first job I got to 90 and I really enjoy it in Endwalker. Drg is also really close, and maybe it’ll be my favorite once I get it to 90. I found drg to be absolutely boring in shadowbringers, but I’m liking it now.
