Would appreciate it, not because materia itself gives you a huge edge or anything but players that actually care about taking 5 seconds to affix some materia are more likely to take the fight seriously. Thanks.

*inserts a lvl1 materia to bypass the requirement* Yeah I think this is going to go well :)
Good idea i just dump all the spellspeed i get into my mch gear!

I have no problem with that. My reaper stuff is already loaded with gathering materias so that i can get the souls of my ennemies more easily.
Why would I waste materia on gear I'll be replacing every 10 levels during leveling?
Never would've thought wanting people to have materia on their gear would be considered controversial, but this is the official forums after all...
I'm usually all for casual gaming, but I support this for the exact reason OP has suggested. It shows you're willing to put in some extra effort.
If your IL is under the IL sync for the instance, then materia does give a perk and is useful.
If you are over the IL sync, then you are synced down to that IL and any materia you have is not counted and provides no benefits.
That said, most all instanced fight mechanics can be cleared as long as the player's gear is near the recommended IL, not including materia
Once you out level melded gear, you can generally retrieve the materia at a 100% success rate, which you can then reuse in new gear and/or save for other jobs, or sell/trade.
If you manage your materia well, you can reuse them almost indefinitely.
Also, do not forget to extract newly created materia from your fully soul bonded gear, so you begin to generate new materia to use.
Can you quantify this "extra effort"?
Or how about you go the extra mile and check actually the gear and stuff of the fellas you raid with and if they don't meet what was expected then...uh...kick them?
Better than just pumping the group finder up with thousands of options and exceptions.
When we get materia that are actually interesting and not just +X amount of substat I might be tempted to bother with it on gear that will be replaced the near future...
That's BS, I've never seen 100% success rate on retrieving materia, someone figured the % on reddit, but is way lower than 100%. Also you have to pay to get higher level materia melded in the 1st place unless your DoH is high enough, which is upwards of 1700p a piece. Most people aren't going to level DoH since they're incredibly boring.
If that's the case I stand corrected, thanks, the other point still stands though, its expensive to affix materia and to buy it during leveling, but I guess apparently this person meant "party finder" and not "duty finder", though I'm not sure why anyone doing high level content would not be affixed, or even why it matters since you could simply remove them from the group.
unless it's current materia (for endwalker, that's grades 9 and 10) then yes, it is 100% retrieval rate.

Perhaps if materia would give players reason to actually use them I would definitely seek to apply it to my gear. Maybe the materia that we have equipped to our gear would grow stronger and add even more bonuses and buffs? It would give players reason to attach materia. Perhaps materia could give a visual change to your gear and weapons?
Party finder is not Duty finder BTW. People there is free to request what they consider appropriate. Giving more options is always good. If you happen to not like what others require the option to create your own group is always there.
But... why...?
If you're doing expert raids it's expected. Most other content it helps you do a bit more, but it's not required.
Not before we get a Soul Crystal required option for content above lvl 30 in duty finder
I have. Plenty of times due to deaths or other dumb mistakes. Doesn’t change that the post I answered is disingenuous.
Aside from the fact that, if you are wiping to 0.1% enrage, your problem is not materia. That is either:
1. Too many deaths (the most likely cause)
2. DPS lacking damage due to rotational problems
3. Healers not contributing to damage (actually the reason for a group I was in hitting enrage in TEA)
4. Tanks not contributing to damage enough
It’s not a materia issue. Especially for any of the content we have now. The only time it makes or breaks is Week 1 Savage in the third and fourth fights, and in Ultimates (where not having VIT melds would actually kill you, back when those were a thing).
Your implication that people who meld care about performance is skewed. You can have fully melded individuals who have no idea how to play their job/role. The two don’t go hand in hand. So I don’t really think forcing the requirement would help. Aside from the fact that it would be easily bypassed.
Yes. But again. Doesn’t change that the post is disingenuous. It’s fine to recognize the gains of materia. But don’t over-inflate it. That’s just the spread of misinformation.
“Insane stat gain” implies that materia adds a hugely significant amount of gained stats. I never said you didn’t get gains from it—but the implication is not “insane”, per that individual. Roughly 5% to 7% the last time I looked at estimates, which was some time back in Eden’s Verse.
is it free? are you supplying the materia? Can i put gathering materia..would that suffice for your standards? You see where this is going. ilevel is a thing. I understand what you are saying but if you have tighter standards then maybe you should aim for a static
also, I've seen plenty penta melders poop the bed while weee ol non melded me is alive. you dont need vit materia anymore. All jokes aside, just not a good idea.
Your post perfectly represents the kind of person that I do not want to do savages/extremes with in party finder. My only standard is that I play with people who try to not gimp themselves. By leaving slots empty (with applicable materia) and going into endgame, you show that you do not care for your own character or about your fellow players. The game THROWS materia at you in high level dungeons. You not taking the 5 seconds to affix them is a speaks volumes towards the way you think. This mindset brings down everyone else around you.
Melding your gear (with appropriate materia, no piety on PLD) is just as much part of prepping for raid as having HQ food enough for the full lockout, and early in tier, having potions (I'm far more willing to forgive potions than food because they're harder to track and easy enough to have them not weave properly).
It's less controversial and more how exactly does the OP expect the game to police something like this past "something in the slot" which doesn't really solve the problem since as others have pointed out, someone can put any sort of higher level materia in there to bypass the requirement.
