almost a week later and still 6 hr queues

At some point you must realize they never cared about na and eu servers.
I made a new account for the expansion..but the servers WERE full before EW launch. You'd still get a queue of 30 people in September prime times. I started august 2019 , they should've had time years ago to fix the congestion (even pre-shadowbringers) looks like WE ALL JUST GONNA HAVE TO SUCK IT because this game apparently has a potato budget.

BUT WE CAN STILL GET A COLLAB WITH SIA RIGHT?

and yes i made another thread to add to the endless ones because people are upset for a valid reason.

is this an EU thing? i'm on NA Lamia and I got only 30 ppl in queue a few minutes ago

It might be, right now queues are still quite painful at peak times. I was at 6000 when I queued up three and a half hours ago. Now I'm at 800 (and thankfully no 2002s today). So 4-6 hour queues aren't uncommon on Chaos at least, especially if you get a 2002 and get sent to the back again.

1 - all the money in the world can't get you something that doesn't exist, and the higher ups at Square Enix aren't willing to invest inflated amounts of money on infrastructure that will only be needed on a temporary basis. You can't force the hardware to come into existince that they need in order to do the upgrades, the developers have even talked about this. Lack or hardware and work restriction with getting people to install with with the pandemic have made the upgrades they want to do difficult to impossible in the immediate.

2 - the above said, the collaboration with Sia ran into neither of those issues. They didn't need to deal with the COVID restrictions to hear her concept, and have animations created, nor did they need to order new electronic hardware to do it, thus making your complaint of "they can do x but not y!" invalid.

This is the case too on the west coast of the North America.

I got in!

Then DCed mid dungeon. When I tried to log in again it said "We need to log you out first" so it logged me out. I saw my poor dced body vanish on my brothers screen.

I am now back at 4700 in queue.

True despair.

Helloow, it's not a free game ... every evening 5k+ players in queue = more than 3 hours waiting before log = not enough time to play. That game is now only playable without family and without job ?

They gave us 7 days, the issue started 10 days ago. Waiting for the next 7 free days....

I play on Lamia as well. If I play before work at 5am there's only a few people in queue, but when I get home from work around 5:30pm there's on average 3-4K people in queue. So it just depends on when you play. Peak hours are terrible. Off hours are fine.

do ya honestly believe all companies blaming " x " on covid for stuff they could've done years ago?
they could've raised wages but it took a pandemic for that to happen. was there a chip shortage at stormblood or shadowbringers launch?
side note, why is it always the 2011-2015 start date players defending the game so hard? you've been around long enough to see nothing changed

HELLOOO there's a long line to play this video game right now. Did they tell her that? Does she know? How can she sleep at night knowing what she contributed to. They just rang her up right in front of all of us. No planning, no thought-they certainly didnt do that months to a year in advance.

If they had just sent their billionare YoshiP to go buy servers out of thin air like they were supposed to instead of courting Sia for that silly song, we would all have been in-game by now having the times of our lives. SE, Sia, reflect.

I believe it's pretty silly to want even more free-sub days, granted on how much the previous 7 free-sub days cost the company. Maybe the individuals who are impatient and want to play, should freeze their account/unsub, and then when things are a lot smoother, resub, so you can make better use of your money.

Because the game didn't have a massive need for hardware due to unprecedented population increases back then.

They've always acquired hardware as needed. Shortly after 2.0 launched they added a ton of servers to meet demand, and also they've added several servers to the EU data centers since those were added.

People act like SE has never bought hardware for the game, when historically they have.

Yes, I do.

ALL companies operate on a just as needed type of system. They don't invest in more hardware than is actually needed because that would eat into their profits. If they hardware they had in 2019 was sufficient for the time, there's no reason that any reasonable person at the time would say that it would be important to get something more. You can sit and play Captain Hindsight and say "yeah but they should have because of the situation we're in now!" Now one can argue that perhaps this isn't a system that businesses should continue going forward, but there's nothing that can be done now to change that, nor was there any reason, from a corporate perspective, to change the status quo.

But nobody in 2019 would have been able to forecast that there would be a global pandemic that shuts down supply lines, disrupts production, and caused more people to be at home with time to play in the game.

I'm lucky enough that I'm on a low enough population server that I don't have to deal with anything more than a 2k+ queue at primetime. That being said, the fact that this is still a problem on other servers is, from a consumer standpoint, unacceptable.

From an outsider perspective though, I at least understand that Squenix's hands are effectively tied. Building up to release was really a perfect storm.

No one foreseeing the future, it is always get it when you need it.

Attempted to log in, sat in queue for 2 hours, got 2002ed twice, gave up for the night. 2002 is really the biggest major issue at the moment.

Less than fixing the servers, that's for sure, Mr S-E accountant. That's why they chose to leave tens of thousands of people to rot in queues for weeks rather than fix their problems ages ago. /shrug

Since I already know that you don't HAVE a way they could have done it because there ISN'T a way they could have done it...let me help you:

Prior to the mass exodus of WoW players, FFXIV was incredibly stable and didn't have any issues. Each expansion has an initial rush and queues, but that's the nature of MMOs and the amount of players trying to play at the same time goes down quickly. You don't add servers for something like that because then you have to get rid of them after and that creates whole new levels of problems.

So the wow exodus hit FFXIV and slammed their playerbase to record levels. They did this during a pandemic. A pandemic which has seen massive semi-conductor shortages which means they can't get the server architecture they need. Not only that, but just having the people to work on things like server infrastructure requires traveling, export, import, etc that is ALL suffering delays on TOP of the semi-conductor shortage.

And THEN you also have an expansion that everyone wants to play which means that new massive, much-more-than-before population all want to play at the exact same time. And the servers cannot handle it.

Since they cannot simply buy new servers to pick up the slack and they straight up announced this prior to the expansion launch so we would all know what was going to happen BEFORE the expansion even launched....what would you have had them do that doesn't require clairvoyance to let them know both a mass exodus from WoW and a global pandemic would hit them at the same time as when it was time for their expansion?

Sucks being the only game on the market worth a damn right now.

We are near the server capacity since ShB launch.
Half of our world do not allow new character since ShB
our daily since EW is something like queue at 5pm and might get into game by 9pm if we are lucky. Unless for those who do not work 9-5 that could queue early in the morning

I mean, there's not much they can do about that. At most, I think they can look into the 2002 errors. It would be nice to be able to do other things while you're in queue without fear of losing your spot. 6k queues, however, are to be expected for the new expansion of a popular MMO. I suppose they could make more servers assuming the shortage ends any time soon, but if you watch Nerdslayer on YouTube you'll know why that may not be a good idea.

I can get complaining about getting DC’d… but complaining that the queue exists in the first place?

The queue existing is a good thing. Means there are so many players wanting to get in that they have to wait.

Not saying you are wrong, but how do you know the server hardware they need is available to rent? Not everything runs off the same type of server hardware. By the dev posts, it very much seems like the type of hardware they need, just isn't available in any form. YoshiP even stated they had to bring in their backup development machines and use them to bolster the log in servers.

None of us know exactly what type of hardware the game's servers actually are. Sure we can critique until the cows come home, but honestly it probably isn't even an option for them.

Renting server space for SE is not as easy as say an NA developer, because they are based in Japan. Not to mention they have extremely high standards for there servers. Which is both a benefit with the fact that the game itself even though constantly congested has had very little downtime, and a detriment because there is simply not enough space for everyone.

Good for S-E maybe. Not really good for the people who are sitting in queues for hours.

Valid complaints that SE has the power to resolve, but it's going to entail rewriting some code: The 2002 error.

Valid complaints that SE doesn't have the power to resolve themselves, but might find a smarter way to handle disconnects: 90006

Valid complaints that SE has absolutely no power to resolve because the OCE servers that they ordered last spring are not being delivered until February 2022: The queues. It sucks. They know it sucks. It is a perfect shitstorm of suck. And they can't do much about it, not so long as everyone wants to play at the same time.

All the complaints are valid!

But SE only has the direct power to fix one, maybe two of them, although they can't stop all disconnects because sometimes it really is your internet. (Thanks, Charter.)

$3.75 USD (Cost of 1 week of gaming.) X 2.8 Million active players = $10.5 Million USD.

I've yet to see a company give a 25% reduction in players monthly sub fee, in compensation for game issues.

So yeah, call me what you want, but at least I'm able to see the effort they're putting in, above my own selfish need to play a dang video game.

My whole issue is this: The ques are one thing. But consistantly dealing with 2002 lobby server errors is beyond ridiculous. First few days are one thing. You expect some hiccups to occur but we're beyond this already or you'd hope so. There's no valid reason for this to be an issue anymore and there's nothing that SE can tell me that will justify it. I'm tired of logging in, letting the queue roll while I go take care of some other necessities only to come back to a 2002 error because they still can't get the world servers/data centers stable enough to hold a line of people. See I believe they knew this was coming and did nothing to mitigate the issue. Like where's your head?

Balmung here, got home to a 4k queue just now. Here's hoping I can get through it with no issues because work sucked and I'd like to play tonight :(

And let me say this-I generally let things roll off of my back when it comes to stuff like this. I'm not complaining for the sake of it. Again, I realize that people want to play and that entails a long queue. I can deal with that. I don't want to have to babysit my place in line though. It's beyond any logical reasoning that this continues regardless of population and you can't convince me that the servers being crowded is the cause of lobby server errors. That's bassackwards logic. I get they can't just increase world population size just to accommodate the influx of players and I'm fine with waiting if their intention is such but they can make the lobby stable in the meantime. Follow me?

It's the 2002's that are the problem. Having to babysit a queue for hours is asinine and this is all on SE...you shouldn't have to worry about having to restart your hours-long queue if you need to do things like get food, go to the bathroom, take a shower, etc.

At least if the 2002s weren't a thing I could reasonably expect to get on after a certain amount of time. I crashed, which ended up putting me in a 2700 queue. Ok, that's fine, so I go to wash dishes and come back to a 2002 now I'm in a 3200 person queue.

The 2002's are the one huge thing that I would think SE should feel pressured to address and fix. Despite the dev posts, there's been work shown that it has nothing to do with packet loss. It's all in the log-in servers code and theoretically should be able to be fixed. Errors/Bugs are definitely a valid critique that SE should be taking seriously.

Long queue times? Can't be helped. Server hardware not available? Can't be helped.

Actual errors in the code? CAN be helped. That should be what everyone should focus on. Without 2002's, a good number of people would be perfectly fine to sit and wait their turn, if they knew that when it was up they could actually play.
