Probably anecdotal, but in the last two day's queues (2500 and 4500), I didn't 2002 out once. It's *possible* they fixed something.
Also, EXPECT.
I've also not had any 2002's despite fairly long queues, at least one of 6k+.
There's lots of people unemployed, just hire one to watch your queue all day, it's cheaper than you might think.
I have not gotten disconnected while waiting in que since last Saturday. Ive had some pretty long queues too.
I hadn't seen a 2002 for two days, which included a 5.3k queue. Today, with a 3.6k queue, I've had two 2002's.
I've sat at my pc and gotten 2002 even while watching the queue. So not sure how you are expected to stop it.
Back in the day we used VPN services to beat the dreaded 2002. Think I'll try that again and see if it helps.
Wireless headphones. As long as the music is playing, you're not 2002'd. The second the music stops, you gotta rush back to the PC to relogin in again.
Won't save everyone, but it helped me yesterday to go do my nails while I waited for a 3K person queue to pass after an unfortunate ISP related disconnect. Only got 2002'd once, and because I recognized that it had locked out entirely, I got my spot back in line at 447.
They made changes outlined in this recent post.

as always people on the forums if they didn't face the same problem it means it doesn't exist ... i had the 2002 error 10 times today 2 of them i waited over 3 hours each ..
Not sure how SE can fix this realistically unless the game becomes more unpopular. They recently boosted the max login cap per datacentre from 17k to 21k but its still a drop in the bucket for what we need in some of the more congested data centres.
"What is FFXIV error 2002? This means that too many people are in the login queue. If over 21,000 people are in queue in your data centre, you'll get error 2002."
Seen less 2002 errors, but the queues are even slower than before. If it’s up around 5k, I don’t even bother as I know it will be at least 3 hours. It will be worrying if this state of affairs exists in a couple more weeks.
It doesn’t seem to be just Blizzard who sabotage themselves :)
Getting error 2002 is not connection strength related by the sounds of it, seems to be complete RNG and occurs if there are over 21k people in the queue on your data centre.
E.g. On Behemoth on the Primal DC during peak congestion we get maybe 5-6k players right now. Multiply that by 8 and you get between 40-48k.
As you can see 21k isn't enough to stop error 2002 when we need 40k at least.
Ever since I switched from our WiFi to connecting directly to the router with a cable, I've had zero connection errors since then. And I switched almost a week ago.
Not trying to downplay your response, but I have been hardwired into my connection for about 4 years now. And I have super great internet package deal from my provider. so good that I can download movies and stuff while I play and get no lag or disconnection issues at all. It was this way even while I was playing WoW for years. This "Error 2002" stuff and DC's did not start until early access started for Endwalkers. So, honestly, being wired directly to the router does nothing. I just think you have been blessed or lucky to not get any 'Zero Connection Errors'.
I'd say that everyone still getting 2002 errors is either using WIFI or has a bad ISP.
Did not got any Thursday and Friday and restarted to get it today
Still getting 2002 every time. Went from 4000ish Q I would 2002 about 4 times, down to 2 times now. Still gotta be right on it man. I turned to help my son with something real fast a couple times and got sent to the back of the line due to not being quick enough with the reboot of game. Feels bad man. By the time I get on... I dont feel like playing the game anymore. :(
BTW very strong internet, wired, in FL
They really need to fix the grace period on the login queues
Having to wait in queue is fine, what's not fine however, is getting booted after you leave to use the bathroom for 5 minutes and you get put at the back of a line of 6000 people when you were in spot 500
What's also not fine is having to start from the back of the line because of a connection issue booting you from the game, especially when you're logging back in 1-2 minutes after getting booted off, nobody can be expected to have perfect internet connections and having to babysit a queue for 3-4 hours just to play only to have to repeat it again should your internet have issues is ridiculous
