What is it with Square and tiny Heads for Mounts. (Mild spoiler?)

Fenrir, Kamuy of the nine Tails and several other Mounts have super Tiny heads that do not fit the rest of their Body at all. Now the new Primal mounts, called Lynx, have the same issue.

They look Amazing until you look at its Head. It is, again, super small and ruins the entire thing. I really hope that gets fixed.

Yeah it is really a shame. You can see they put a lot of Effort in the design but then somehow forgot the scale the Head right. :(

Yeah its a really weird choice. First thing I joined when I saw them was how much they looked like toys.

Yeah, I've always found the models with tiny heads and huge bodybuilders body kinda ridiculous.

And people say size doesn't matter <.<

Imo I think they look cool.
Bahamuth for example looks unique and not like a generic dragon.
I actually think his protruding chest and how giant his body is makes him look regal.
It's also not like animals like these don't exist, look at giraffes.

I dunno tho I think some people just obsessively draw direct connections with real life normality and I don't rly get it or empathize with that.
For example one of my fav artists is Kim Hyung Tae, and some people hate his art because of the proportions of his character.
But it's not meant to look like a reflection of reality, and just because it doesn't doesn't mean that he's bad a anatomy.
Which is another thing I constantly see people blurt out at art and artists they don't like too, accusations that they're bad at/ don't know how anatomy works ( which in 99% of the cases come from people who don't do art and have never studied anatomy in their lives ).
The truth is that caricature artists are often times some of the most knowledge about anatomy, portraying realism is just not the point.

I don't think it's rly necessarily the same in FFXIV, but I do think that they take stylistic liberties that may not land for everyone but nothing ever will.
But my overall point here is that there is nothing to fix, it's not a mistake it's a deliberate design decision.

I don't think so. FF14 has no end of races, creatures and environments that are nothing like real life in appearance or proportions and people love many of them.

Sometimes designs can work regardless of how they may differ from their real life counterparts ...and sometimes they don't and just look off. For some of us, that's the case, tiny heads doesn't enhance the design. Not every artistic style looks great, otherwise you could pretty much scribble any design you like down and suddenly you're a concept artist or 3D graphic designer.

You all forget about moogles, just look at them. 70% head and 30% body!

Its not just the mounts, a lot of mobs have tiny heads. it actually bothers me as well haha

then there is Susano which is 10% head 90% body
but also 100% Wild, pure and forever free.

Yeah it's super odd. They otherwise look pretty neat, but the tiny head is kinda silly
Still not half as bad as Fenrir tho
