Your best bet is to get on early and never log off. For me between 7-11am EST it's pretty quick to get on. No crash or lag once you're on.
As you said the only time I played was last weekend in the morning. The rest of the week the game was unplayable. I am surprised that SE has the game in such a bad shape. This is not the way to simply enjoy a gaming experience far from it.
The most likely thing to happen that would improve things would be if less people played. Simply put, unless they can get the server hardware they need, which is unlikely due to the chip shortage, there are no practical solution that SE can implement. Even the 2002's can be traced back to the lack of server hardware.
This could make the shortage worse if they use Intel servers. Upgrade plan will be longer.

Not sure if I was lucky or if things are getting better but I got into 4k queue line and I didn't get a 2002.
I had a 3k queue....took 20 minutes.
I think thats progress?
I don't think things will get better till the queues die down, and that won't be happening for at least a week or two
Honestly every time the expansion drops I realize that I've been taking the entire "You get to log in without any issues or long waits" thing for granted
Since it's the semiconductor shortage causing the issue, that will take a few years to sort out, so I wouldn't come back until then.
Prime time on a Saturday, joined a 1100 queue, albeit on a low pop world (or at least we once were, dunno how the numbers are lately).
Launch day is always the worst. It slowly eases up from there.
I got in a 4000 ppl queue today but I wasn't hit by the 2002 error.
Things are a lot worse on my end today. Queue is MUCH longer than before for me. Also, I'm getting 2002 errors more often. I could usually get some playtime in if I started queue at 2:30 to 3:00pm where I live (prime is at 5 to 9 where I live). I tried as usual to log in at 3pm, but I was unable to get in to play the game at all this time. I've given up for today.
I started out as willing to forgive Square for these constant issues, particularly after dealing with it from other MMOs for years. Now, however, its getting tiresome. Particularly since I'm fairly certain that those with an Endwalker license on their accounts are getting priority over someone who only has a sub with Shadowbringers. I sat in a 4k queue for four hours earlier, dealing with multiple 2002s, and the queue never went down in that entire time. Its always been accurate previously, but now it just decides to not be accurate? I'm not buying that for an instant. I am definitely leaning more towards the crowd that says additional server hardware should have been implemented after the launch of Shadowbringers, long before Covid brought companies this "chip shortage".
I reckon the only silver lining here is that at this rate, I'm looking at an entire month of subscription time I technically don't have to pay for before this issue stops being an issue-- provided Square doesn't just stop at the extra seven days compensation.
are you meaning unplayable because you have to wait in a queue to get in? or many errors? or you got in and the game kept crashing on you?
the queues will be around for a good while. even during slow times there is a queue of sorts, typically 30 or so people for me, but hardly intimidating. with an expansion launch, there is always going to be a queue for a while. more people wnat to play than there is space for. thats in most mmo's. errors, well, different story.
if your game is crashing, I hope you are reporting that. I personally have had no issues playing, its been very smooth in game. so, might help if you clarify where the issue is exactly
I actually just wanted to add my little whine and cry here for the moment. I've been kicked out plenty of times before at the worst times... be it someone i missed and havent seen in a long time texted me, or i went to go do something and spent a little too much time doing it.. today i was setting up remote desktop so i can view my desktop from my mobile and perhaps take a chance at getting a nap after work. Got kicked from queue in the short time it took for me to set up remote desktop on my mobile device and pc and to verify that they were both working :( now i just had to vent this one out and just let it go. I hadn't complained the entire time and just endured but this one time i just had to let a little whine and cry out. :*(( know I'm not the only one experiencing these issues, though. That's what keeps me from feeling disparaged. I still love the game.
you act like this is something that have ever only happened here.... new to an mmo environment?
considering everyone waiting in queue pays a sub... what do you expect them to do, stuff everyone in so we have unstable game servers?
not a viable resolution I am afraid.
They should make ffxiv a f2p game if there not going to fix these queue times. If your paying a sub you shouldn't have to wait hours to login and play. It by like you paying for netflix and go to watch a show and be put in queue for few hours.
There is one more issue that no one talks about. Bad routers. I got a lot of poor connections and disconnects using both cheap and mid range D-Link routers. I install a router fan on the mid range and disconnect issues are gone. I swapped to Asus RT-AC68U. It doesn't even need additional cooling.
I've got all the expansions and have bought them all well in advance of the xpac drops, and I am still waiting in the queue to get in since 3pm est. I've had multiple 2002 errors and plenty of "unable to access the server" responses, so no, you are not being kept out of any kind of priority queue. I'm down to under 1000 again, but I'm not holding my breath.
Accidentally kicked myself out of the game, stuck in long queue, oh well. Worth noting, been sat in queue for... idk, 2-3 hours, on wifi, without any errors.
