Why Does Summoners Gear Always look bad!!!

I am really sadden by the lack of effort that is put in to the design of Summoners Gear. It always looks ugly and just plan trash. Compered to all the other Gear for the other Jobs.

I don't get why they make it look so ugly. The Level 89 gear that you get is just the same kind of design with a new splash of paint.

Sages gear so so much better than Summoners. I can put up with the silly book as a weapon. But the clothes that most mages get just look like a overly long jacket or a robe.

Can we please for once get some cool looking Armour/ Gear for Summon.

It's called Job Fantasy. Mages in most fantasy games, table top or otherwise, tend to have the "wisend sage with flowing robes" trope. Hence why every mage job in this game, and most other Final Fantasy titles that have a majority fantasy theme, i.e. less modern aesthetic(I'm looking at you bikins and blue jeans >.>), tend to wear robes of some sort. The mage jobs in this game each wear the "robe" aesthetic differently. I'm honestly surprised you decided to call out Summoners designs vs. White Mage which has literally had some of their Artifact Gears look like something a Nun would wear. Regardless, the wonderful thing about Final Fantasy XIV is that is has a glamour system so if you don't like the way something looks you can change it.

The bigger issue is all of the PLD gear in Endwalker looks so good!

Buff SMN glams, nerf PLD glams!

I personally think the SMN AF looks great, and dyed it a dark green. /shrug. I like how it's reminiscent of the classic Summoner gear while also looking fresh and not overly bulky. All personal opinion obviously. I for one am happy with it though. It's honestly one of my fav iterations so far, followed by HW SMN AF.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that effort didn't go into it...

You're completely entitled to hate it... I don't like either, but I know some people really love it.

Objectively, given the subjectivity of the theme, the thing we can ask is for more diversity in the overall concept, so we can appeal to broader tastes. Just like they did with the HW set, which remained on brand while going for different shapes and colors.

I actually think Sage is a little boring

The best Summoner set was the Heavensward one. Period.

The level 90 set is beautiful, IMO. But I’m a huge fan of the original so of course I’d love this one, too.

Sometimes AF gear feels like a borderline copy paste

I think the level 90 outfit looks really good. If you want to see bad outfits, look at our Scholars.

I really liked the heavensward one, but it was definitely designed with female characters in mind.

I think the endwalker set is the best overall set.

there are good looking caster gear , the AF at 50 isnt that bad is the classic smn armor.

new 1 is cool but i dislike the dye...why the orange has to stay?

I do not like any of the SMN sets. I never even liked the original Summoner look that final fantasy games have always had. But, it is a good thing we have glamours and such.

Scholar set is by far the best one out of the healers, you actually look like a commanding officer as opposed to a schoolgirl.

This is some of the best SMN AF in the history of the game. The 570 tomegear is also Rydia cosplay that I've wanted for a very long time personally. So I'm happy with both. Just hope the weekly lookout gear looks ok, most of the ShB SMN tomestone gear was awful.

I think the Level 89 job gear for Summoner looks pretty badass personally, but to each their own. Tails coming out of this particular clothing is executed in a more natural way than a lot of other caster gear that typically involves capes, plus the horn is super cool.

I think its ben designed to look familiar to the ARR Set. The issue is that the SHB set was similiar in this regard, so the difference is minute. That said i do get why some people like it, for me its not bad, but not impressive. But when i look at my personal taste with Summoner AF gear its as follows:

ARR: Like
HW: partially like
SB: Love
SHB: Dislike
EW: Its Ok, but id have prefered something somiliar to SB/ AF3

I hope that in 7.0 we get a completely new gear design for AF, or something similiar to HW and SB designs. Its a good opportuity to give a completely new design direction for job gear given its the start of a "new" saga.

I am just tired of the butt wings. If they wanna give us wings, put them where they make sense. And yeah, I know it's based off of something in particular, but that doesn't make it look any better.

The SMN sets are always great!

It is the SCH set that is more often than not, a let down!!!!

Casters and healers tend to have the worst looking sets IMO. This is in part to robes being massive over the body and not having real physics in the fabric so it's just like wearing a cone sometimes.

It would be nice if the robes draped over the body instead of looking like stiff cardboard but that would require a physics engine on clothes and they already explained that they can't. The best we can have is getting my fitted looks or flare outfits.

Personally I will always prefer a modern fit over a huge robe. SGE's artifact gear was a new blend of a half robe/half suit. I'd rather watch my caster and healer character watch pants outfits that allowed movement in the heat of the battle.

Hot take that I would expect no one to agree with (and also would NEVER happen because it would require reworking of things like the lore books and art assets), but I honestly would like them to remove books as SMN's weapon on top of changing it's gear aesthetic. SMN and SCH books always get a short end of the stick of just recolors of each others weapons, and of the two SCH having a book hits the job fantasy of a back line tactician far better then it does of a mobile spell caster invoking the power of primals.

As for what they could replace it with, there are some options in the FF history that could work, heck could even bring back one handed wands like what conjurer had back in ARR and stylize them to work better for SMN. But personally it would be an awesome time to do something like they did with Sage and make a more original weapon with some personality. Maybe something based around the gems to fit the aesthetic more.

Again, it would never happen. Just a random thought.

The p4s weapons were all themes around glowing ancient text. What did we get? A white book with a white glowing circle in the front. We couldn’t even get white flowing text that floats out the book? Lazy.

I would be happened with 1 handed wands, or preferably a new weapon altogether. Summoners we’re created by the allagans. Why not some kind of technological weapon?

True, SCH got awesome skirts. smn should at least have good one.

You mean, like a book? It actually fits rather well, like a lot of things from Arcanist once did.

But to keep it on topic, I'd rather the variation that comes in the Summoner AF armor actually gets than most other jobs. It's never really my style (Can't do the horn justice if your headgear slot's always taken), but at least each set is clearly distinct so that everyone can have their favourite one. To me it's also a good way for them to refer back to each Summoner in the series without letting that bleed into gameplay.

It's funny that you bring that up because something that came to my mind was why do artifact sets continue to sort of regurgitate the same general notes rather than us getting more varied takes on each job? Like during Stormblood, why didn't we get what a Doman SMN would look like? Or during Shadowbringers, what if all artifact gear was if those jobs were from FF8? This expansion, it could've been more inspired by FF4 design, and maybe we could see each job with Spira inspiration in another expansion, or if all the jobs were from FF13 (you can hate the game, but the fashion was on point).

I wouldn’t call books technological. I meant like future tech, closer to something unique like Sage.

The allagans were very technologically advanced, it would fit thematically if the summoner’s weapon reflected that.

As far as our artifact gear, we honestly have more diversity than most jobs, especially the “mages”. Red mage and white mage specifically get the same gear expansion after expansion.

We’ve had 3 samey sets and two that were a little more unique.

Since we seem to agree on everything else, I’ll elaborate on why it doesn’t bother me. To me that hiccup was mostly solved by the Summoner lore itself, since in reference to Allag their questline implies that Arcanima and their anti-primal studies were the root form of magic that lead to the innovation of aetherochemistry and similar technology in the first place. That is to say, Summoning predates that technology. Plus ancient tomes being used to evoke dead gods is thematically consistent, if not always holistic. Arcanist having spells that fit the Allag theme also helped with that conundrum a fair bit as well. I can understand the complaint though. With that Allagan element missing from gameplay it would help to pull that theme back in elsewhere.

I just wish we got more plain shaped books with interesting embossed textures and particle effects instead of the constant push for fold/pop out covers and quills we can’t even use. 90% of the endgame books suck because of random accessories like that.

I've been wondering this for a while...

Like why do all the dragoon sets look like Kain and none look like Freya? Why do none of the machinist sets look like Edgar? They really seem stuck with tunnel vision when it comes to job-specific sets.

All male magic user gear looks bad - magic dps or healer. They don't even try to be creative
