Side quest exp still feels too low.

The exp we now get from MSQ is great seeing how we no longer get stuck grinding a whole level to just progress the story.

However and unfortunately the exp from side quests is still discouragingly low.

At lvl 83 you need to do a whooping 41 side quests to get one level, which is about all the quest in a zone. So if you were to do every single endwalker side quests on one job you would probably end up at around 85-86 maybe even less, which is really low for something we can only do once and that can be more time consuming that just farming dungeons/fates (about 30 fates with 50% bonus).

One could say that the reward for these quests is world building, but then a lot of the same world building was touched upon and presented more thoroughly through the main story so it ends up feeling like the actual reward for doing these is just the removal of a quest marker.

I agree. Sidequest xp is abysmal and that's why many never do them.

Join an FC with XP buff, Use +15% XP scroll.


Run MSQ roulette and see the numbers flying high. (Best wait to use the 2hours duration scrolls as soon as you're inside the MSQ dungeon so you won't loose the queue time on your scroll duration) And then do Alliance roulette > level roulette > 50/60/70/80 > etc
Save trial and guildhest for last. The scroll is primarily effective when there is many different mobs. On a single enemy it's not much.


(You can use the XP scroll earlier if you do activities like fate farming while waiting your MSQ queue).


With the above method I was able to lvl all my combat jobs to 80 (they where all 70 when ShB launched) Like in less then 2 months. By just doing it every evening (minus 3 days in the week when savage dropped).

I never relied on side quests for levelling up. I still do them just to get the icon rid from my map and because I have to get them done because of my OSD but not for the solo purpose of lvling.

I wouldn't mind more but you don't need all the sides to get to 90. I've been clearing the map and I got to 90 during the next to last area doing sides now with my rdm. I've done no other leveling by the way in the way of roulettes etc.

I get the feeling they're actively disincentivizing doing side quests for xp. Given that we have plenty of better ways to level, I don't really mind either. Means I can just pick and choose the sidequests I'm actually interested in, and leave the rest.

I appreciate that there are other ways to level fast, not to mention buying boosts, but it would be nice if I could do side quests to level without doing them for abysmally low XP rates. Sometimes I just want to login and quest but under the current system it's wasted XP on my main job and unrewarding on my alt jobs. I know I can run roulettes for much better XP gains but sometimes I don't want to do that and having the choice to explore the side quests in a truly rewarding way would be nice.

I'd like to see the addition of a buff to side quest XP, even if you need to fully cap one DoW/DoM job to get this, so that you get XP rates that match the XP reward from MSQ quests. I've done a few side quests so far but mostly a few notable ones that have been pointed out to me, everything else are just a giant collection of markers that'll stay on my map until there's a decent reward from them. Call it personal preference but I'd like to cap all my DoW/DoM jobs without farming the same roulette queues over and over again (I'm aware of Bozja/Zadnor for 71 to 80).

But why?

They're limited supply and one time only, so they can't hurt roulette queues. They're also pouring hours of dev time into making them. It seems such a waste to keep churning them out, then discourage most players from even looking at them.

Yeah. I do agree that the XP from sidequests is very low. I've done a few because I liked the characters or storylines involved (and, yes, I did enjoy them for that reason) but as soon as I noticed I could get basically the same XP from doing a single non-XP doubled FATE I put them firmly in the "only if I'm bored and have nothing else to do" slot.

It really is a shame because I'm sure at least some of the side quests are legitimately enjoyable but it does feel they're almost actively pushing players away from doing them. As Liam says, they're already in limited supply. There's no reason to not do more to encourage players to do them (or at least further reward the players who do).

It is to low and you get more xp from doing fates. The rewards from most the side quests is very poor. Other expansions got glamours, minions, and other nice stuff. Not just food or gear.

Those were all buried deep in chains, usually a capstone quest to two separate chains (like the Great Serpent requiring one chain which started in Fanow and another which started in Slitherborough), so if you're comparing the one-offs to the ones in the chains, you're probably comparing apples with oranges right now.

I don't know, I was always the right level, they handed me side quests at the perfect pace to fill the EXP gap left by MSQ...and I never had to grind, FATE or do Duty Finder.

It was perfect. No complaints here. I was level 90 well before I needed to be.
