Deepvoid Slave.

First off I want to make this clear. I didn't know where to post this or if this has been posted before. Also don't berate me if you were able to easily beat this and I can not at this time. Thankyou for your cooperation.

So I have been having trouble beating Into The Dark (Gridania) as my Lancer. I don't really want to switch to another class as I have became very firmiliar with the mechanics of a Dragoon. I have been battling this thing for what seems like ages and I would very much like to get my AF armor. So I come here to humbly ask for help after 29 wipes on what I should be doing and looking out for in this fight. I just had about here with the darkhold that I have to resort to this. :confused:

You need to hit level 50 first preferably.

Im actually level 48. Don't let the sig and main class fool you. Hasn't been updated.

Have you look for a better party members?

If your tank have been tanking him in one spot without moving, tell him to move when ghost popped around him, up and down, up and down.

Wth the tank stay on one SPOT? are they following that outdated strategy when all the stats and skills are still not reformed yet?

up down up down strategy :)

you don't need to move at all, all the tanks has to do is be in the top area,

if you wipe once, dont go barging back into the room

use walkmode and go down the left side to get back into position
if need be, have someone make a macro for when goes change positions to alert others in the pt who aren't paying much attention

melee stay on his flanks, dont attack from the rear

move tank on top near cave and let him stay there , the boss has to be and stay high.
whm , blm etc move to center and heal him from there , when ghosts move .. the party moves to the left and go up, heal tank from the left, ghost move -> back to the center heal from below.
Reason is if you tank boss below your party will get the tailswipe wich will wipe the party or at least make it very hard because you gotto heal your own party too.
Works perfectly because none of the party get hit by his tail , because of the difference in height when in the center of the / boss party

The tank in one spot seems to work best for my linkshell. Just have to make sure everyone's competent. It's mostly a ranged job's fight. Try to bring a lot of BLMs, they can bring it down in no time. Make sure you are going with 8 people though. I know it says you can enter with 4, and I've seen the whole thing beaten with 4, but if you're just starting out you should probably go with 8. Getting to 50 should also help your DPS/survivability. I'd do that first.

Very old video 4 man ogre, but this is what i meant by moving up and down, less risk and very melee friendly because everyone and their mom only knows how to do this with ranged classes.

wow people still use that one spot thinggie strat? seriously guys? moving up and down is much more better and more safer for the whole party.

Moving isn´t really that important with a decent party with Monk´s you can kill him before the ghosts even move, i assume you make this in a 8 man Pty which makes it a lot easier for beginners than with less people.

This is true, but since i'm doing with usually 5-6 ppl only, i did that strategy. but in a situation with 8 ppl, i just stay down 1 time and it is done when the ghost disappeared.

Whenever I go as DRG and the tank stays in one spot I just get as close as I can to the little nook and hit the ogre from the side, thanks to the range of the lance. You really shouldn't be having any problems.

As long as your healers are healing and your tank is tanking, the ogre will go down easy as pie. Really, you only need 4 or 5 people to beat the whole thing, since batraal is a push over now. It's tank and spank while avoiding the ghosts, they go up, mages go down and vice versa. Small heals in the first phase, bigger heals when the ogre goes red. Keep stoneskin up, rotate SS if you have more than one whm as in any other fight.

Uhn... I'll add this here given my experiences: Deepvoid Slave, like any other boss battle in this game, requires having a good synch with your party regardless.
My LS took like 8~ or so tries (with 3 out of our 8 having done that fight and won it previously, also a handful of us were derping there) until we realized that actually attacking that sucker from the back IS a good idea, if used properly. The thing is, if you attack it from the back it'll do the elbow drop, which is a conal AoE, and that takes priority over all of it's other moves, so you can essentially keep it busy elbow-dropping all the time and prevent it's AoE skill and prevent it from causing too much damage to the tank.

I just usually tank&spank it while staying in one spot with 2 WHMs healing. Safe and easy. I've seen ogre wipe a party more than once when trying to move him too fast up or down, and he does that ranged fire breath of doom. Just so much easier to tank in one spot. Mages and ranged DD just move up and down with ghosts, melee can hit ogre when ghosts are down.

Moving him up and down is really easy, just make sure your tank moves in baby steps at a time. You have a ton of time between the Ghosts teleporting and actually starting their attacks, and if they move slowly the ogre won't do the fire breath crap that will murder your party.

As a DRG, you can keep the ogre "locked" but you have to be on the ball. Attacks from behind will cause him to counter with Hip Drop, which is a heavy dmg rear conal AOE. It has a decently long windup and leaves him "stunned" for a few seconds after it. You can hit him and run to the front to avoid it, mages/archers will be out of range of it. It will help out a lot with keeping pressure off the tank, but make sure not to do it when the ghosts disappear as you need the ogre to be able to move to follow the tank.

Thanks for the video, Chard. These strategies make a lot of sense when you see them in action. I especially like how your party keeps the Ogre from dealing almost any damage at all by forcing him to do elbow drop over and over.

EDIT: And thanks to everyone posting strategies/information here. I'm not the OP, but I've found all of this really useful. :)

Or if you just have a few suicidal, yet powerful monks, they can burn the Ogre down on the bottom level before the first ghost switch. Its funny how ridiciously fast he can die.

wait till the content finder then you can be what ever you want.

Guys, you don't need to move the ogre, just tank him up top in the nook. Only the mages, brds, and dd move up or down.

I usually let Seirra do everything...while i eat my popcorn and twirl my lance around lol yeah basically you go up and down when the ghost appear its the safest strat for new players.

New players aside, it's also one of the easiest strategies in general.

You don't have to attack the ogre from behind to force Elbow Drop; you just need to be behind him with enmity. One time I was WHM doing that when everyone but the tank and I fell and I couldn't cast Raise. It was going well until Golden Week's server stress caused a connection drop.

However, I'm questioning if you even need to have enmity. With the way my log is set up I won't see skills used unless I have some level of enmity. One time I was just walking around and dodging by animation, no log messages. It's possible there was a mage too close, but I'm not sure. I think it's worth checking out, just to see.

its the best strategy... only one ghost should be hitting the tank, and with a warrior, they dont hit that hard. as long as your party isnt dumb and attacking from the back, with decent DDs, this thing goes down fast.

Ghosts will hits melee DPSs because they keep moving to combo.

Even with a Paladin they don't get hit that hard. The one spot strategy is so easy it's ridiculous.

Hello,

I've noticed with a decently equipped party it's possible to:
Start tanking up top.
All ranged start attacking from bottom.
When ghosts appear, everyone goes up.
Finish off the ogre.

(Do not even have to go back down again as he dies pretty quickly. Well, you have to go back down to get the chest, but that's it ^.^ )

I don't see the big deal this is the ogre, once a tough & long fight turned into a 30 sec fight. I'm sure someone on the server can run you through this.

I did this dungeon with a party of 4 without a problem, but we are fully leveled and geared. I may have missed it but what is your party a setup like?

its not a bad strat as long as your melee know what they are doing as well as the tank. If you happen to need to move it then the tank cant get to far away or he will spit on everyone and that can easily take out a few members.

This was exactly the way the group I went with not too long ago used. We had 2 whitemages and a War Tank I believe. It went off without much of a hitch. Someone specific watched the ghosts and had a macro to let everyone else know when to move up or down. Tank stayed put. It was only a month ago so I don't believe it is an "outdated tactic"

The ogre dies in about 20 seconds, think some of you people are over complicating it a bit.

Thankyou for all the strategies and tips. As a representative of Distant World Masamune I give you our humblest thanks. With your help we were able to create a strategy of our own using alittle bit of everything. We will test it and get back to you with the results of the battle.

I've always found the real trick to this fight is to have a single melee focus on attacking its back to force elbow drop and then dodge it. Prevents the ogre from doing other more devastating things.

The only other thing i constantly have to tell people is, When the Ogre Rages, Dont Run Away From Him!!!!! If the person with hate gets too far away from the Ogre he does a Cone AOE Fire Spit that can one shot people and will put everyone one to two hits away from death. You HAVE to walk.
