Why even bother queing, what a joke system

Sat through a 2 hour que while getting various tasks done on my computer. I got down to sub 700 and decided to walk my dog so I can play for 2-3 hours without interruption. Get back to my computer and im error 2002 and now in a 5k que. What a terrible que system that lets people get thanos snapped out of line.

Meanwhile I can't past the loading screen without "error 2002"... Got in for about 10-ish minutes with a 4k queue before being booted out with, you guessed it, "error 2002" :(

Kept getting the 2002 error while trying to get into the data center several times. Finally made it past that bottle neck and make it into the queue at around 4600. Around every 100 or so that the queue drops that nasty 2002 error hits and I quickly log back into the data center to not lose my place in queue. Get to around 3700 and 2002'ed again after an hour of the previously mentioned. Try to reconnect to data center only to be met with 2002 over and over again. Finally get past that and find my place in the queue is gone and have to start all over, and now the queue is at 6625.

I don't mind waiting in a queue, even an extremely long one, as long as there is a guarantee that that time will have a payoff. The fact that a player can be kicked out of the queue is ridiculous but at least there is a grace period you can get back in. Of course what's worse is if you can't connect to your data center due to that same 2002 error, that queue spot is gone and all that time completely wasted. I've suffered through some pretty rough launches of games but this might close to the top for me.

In true JP fassion, Square has managed to not be able to come up with a modern login solution for their MMO..

not having a reconnect button after a DC is just inexcusable at this point.. even wow has that.

If WOws so great then why are they not packed with overflowing servers? Could it be no ones playing that trash cuz they got a taste here?

He wasn't talking about the play experience of WoW versus FF14, he was talking about how outdated the login is for FF14 compared to WoW. Has nothing to do about quality of the games but rather the ability to access the games through the login. And he's right.

I've been reset from under 1000 back to 6000 3 times today. I get the servers are stressed but do something to remember people's position in queue this is a complete joke.

I feel like to get the queue moving they need a timer on playtime per session*.

Example:

Play 8 hours straight, get booted off and have to login back in / join the queue.

It would suck but at least the queue would be flowing better and 8 hours is reasonable.

With a queue flowing a bit better getting booted / forced to re-log may not be that bad.

I don't understand how we can't get a ticket or something connected to our account. Or something similar to a call back instead of waiting on hold on the phone for hours.

Sat through another 1k que to 2002 yet again and then tried 11 times to even back to login que and I cant even do that now. Jeez people get paid to make this crap que system?

That would fix any 3001 errors (world is full) but it would flood the login servers so much worse. Those would be the 2002 errors everyone is having.

I know right? If someone as awful as my ISP can figure out doing that idk why they can't. they already have an app for logging in just use the one time password codes for it.

I just got that 4004 too few minutes ago. Left the que for like one and a half hour, came back to "player in que: 1" and I knew something's gonna happen. Indeed, something happened...

Decided to try again 2 hours later.... Nothings changed rip

Lol imagine working block shifts and you only have 1 day to play FF and you log in at 8am and then get booted cause someone decided the guy who logs in every day at 5pm deserves the spot more.

What this showed us that we have bigger problems than a broken queue. We have a community problem that will defend these sort of things. That is the real rot.

This isn't new though, I that cost of repeating myself, SE has had issues with housing since housing came out, other older games have managed to have housing without the major flaws and yet SE can't seem to figure it out and the folks who have houses are always the first to say working as intended. There are other issues as well that folks just seem to gloss over.

I got down to 1 in the queue and then 2002'd.... and back to 4800 when I re-opened the client. I waited and fought multiple 2002s from 6:15pm until 8:30pm for nothing. :mad:

Are you implying only half of us get got?

(Seriously though, I tend to either get dropped upon attempting to connect to Data Center, within the first 5 minutes of my queue, or not at all.)

... To play the game? I've been getting on just fine.

How a modern queue system should be implemented for all game servers / any game data center access points / website with heavy loads:

1. Initial https account authorization (load balanced, which does indeed seem to be the case for the actual launcher currently).
2. Send an https async request to queue system (again load balanced web queue system, can also incorporate DDOS protection via known services).
- By the way there are already known services that provide async queue systems available. (Playstation direct uses such a system and other online stores have started to as well, saw several during this Black Friday. They even referenced who it was powered by.)
3. Queue system sends back a queue token identifier.
4. No need for an always connected tcp / udp connection running to data center / servers yet.
5. The queue token provides the following: An unique Queue ID. Your assigned position number. Estimated wait time. Async Retry time.
6. No need to close out the client due to error 2002, because there is no active connection at this point. Client sits waiting to re-query the queue async callback, based on the provided retry time, until it is given the okay to establish a primary tcp / udp connection.
- Position number can be returned from the async callback so client gets an updated position view.
7. If you try to connect via tcp / udp without a queue token or queue token is not allowed yet then the connections are simply ignored and instantly closed.
8. If it is your Queue ID turn and you fail to establish a direct tcp / udp connection after x minutes, then and only then is your queue token nullified. At this point you would indeed have to start over.
9. Your queue token will also be nullified after successful entry into game.
10. Once in a game, a new identifier is created to allow you to bypass queue system for a one time use in the following cases: Improper Network Disconnect or Client Crash.
11. If you exit game normally then the one time use queue pass is revoked.
12. the one time queue pass expiry time is constantly updated as long as you are really online. Once a improper disconnect event has happened, does it no longer update. Giving you about a 2-5 minute window to reconnect your account and get back in game.

It is not complex to implement. And once again, there are already services designed and are available specifically for this and in use by websites all over already in the ecommerce space. However, these queue services do not require it to be a website only, as they are just API services.
