Is Dragoon end game similar to FFXI where everyone hated on them and neglected them? I want to roll LNC so that i can try DRG out and am just wondering if im going to be excluded from opportunities due to job favoritism.

Its not impossible to get a ls who will take you as a drg but pick up groups will not often take a drg to most endgame. Right now you have to be war, whm, blm or brd to be favored and mnk is favored in some content. This will not likely change untill the lancer/dragoon buff in 1.22b which is a month or so away.
LNC was my first L50 class. Nowadays I never use it.
I find that you're better off staying as a lancer rather than dragoon, because you lose a lot of utility and survivability without all your sub class skills. People tend to complain a lot less if you can keep yourself alive and the healers don't have to pay so much attention to you.
If you have decent materia'd gear, you don't lose much in the way of dps either.
Sad truth is, most pickup groups only search for BLM/WAR, WHM & BRD. Some LS members of mine liked to say "loldrg" but they didn't had any experience with this job - Most of them keep quiet know that they saw me in action.
I'm in luck to run Garuda with DRG and my DPS is around 59-75, with parser rankings up to #1-2, sometimes only #3 when the acc goddess don't like me or Garuda moves too much. Most of the time i can only be outdmg'ed by one of our BLM's and he got two to tripple melded gear.

But to be frank, it's much easier to play BLM on fights like Garuda, the movement of hers makes it hard to land combos from the correct side, i have no trouble doing that but as i say: "Playing melee on garuda is hard, every minute in this fight makes me grow 1h older in RL" :D
We still haven't beaten her yet, but got her around 10-15% now... And up till now we managed all encounters with melee setups except chimära, even the speedruns.
What i wanted to say: DRG is definitely a incredible DMG dealer in endgame content. But most of the DRGs i see just don't cut it, DRG is a difficult but extremely fun Job to play, if you feeling up to the task and are willed to prove that you are good than you should have no problems... But when you are searching for easy time, pick BLM... BLM never gets old^^
BLM and WAR being OP and convenient just makes it hard for DRG and MNK. Nothing wrong with DRG or MNK, people only like to class stack these days, and DRG is not the popular one this patch.
It goes back and forth. It used to be that LNCs were overpowered and now they have fallen out of favor. Players look for the easiest/safest way to achieve results, and given the variability among classes/jobs, right now class stacking ranged classes/jobs is primary easy/safe way to achieve success for current content. My advice is to level what you want, find a solid LS, and you will end up happy.

DRGs WS cooldowns are way to high for it to keep up with a well to mid range BLM. Top that with sub par ACC and multi directional combos it takes way to much time to pull off a good amount of DMG in long fights. missing a combo for a melee kills DPS while a resisted combo from BLM is much easier to recover from given how easy it is to regain mp and low recast of spells. DRG and MNK are my two favorite classes to play, but that sad fact is i'm going to be stuck on BLM til either something major happens (recast fix amg please) or BLM is nerfed in the ground.
I just took Garuda down for the first time with my shell (speedrun with 1x DRG, 2x WAR, 2x BRD, 2x BLM, 1x WHM), if everything works as it should be your acc is around 96% (got 441 without brd song) and your combos should hit the mark. Only thing tricky is when chirada and suprana spawn and there is a huge clusterfuck. With a little practice only few combos fail because of bad positioning.
BLMs got thier problems aswell on a longer fight, it's hard to maintain enough MP without dying from convert in order to burn chirada down and with that much movement in the garuda fight the WS CDs are fine as they are.
Was ranked first on the kill and i'm sure that MNK could perform just as well. People just have to give it a try a few more times.
DRG has no place in WAR/BLM Fantasy XIV.
I don't know which game everyone else is playing, but we tend to use 3 DRGs on Princess. The problem is that DRG occupies a thin niche in the game at the moment, with solid single-target DPS and great consistent AoE DPS. Developers have already acknowledged that DRG needs some upward tuning.
DRG is fine people favor other classes because of easy class stacking.
You know DRG is a good Solo Job if you have the HP/DEF
Lets just hope 1.22b SE buff us a bit.
Direction combos are not that bad, but the timers are horrid.
I love how ppl say drg is fine when its clearly not lol. they give you way too much ramp up time for power surge, but they changed life to 250 tp and way lower recast? They gave us a Low acc ws that branches off into two of our best combos. We have lol hp/def and our crits are not even that impressive(glass cannon) where? all i see is the glass. I pray they do it right because all though i am excellent at running war in every raid etc. well you know the rest....Lets go SE balance balance balance.
speaking as someone who plays whm 99% of the time, and I think I can speak for most of us, WE HOPE YOU GET MORE HP!
I hope they fix a few things.
- Timers on WS's
- Adjust our Crit Rate
Our job according to them is suppose to be based on critical hit damage, not stat stacking STR and PIE necessarily. Even after combos, unless you are using blindside, our critical hit rate is minimal. If they fixed this, we would have quite the damage increase.
Yeah people say that about everything, noone wants any changes, I think it's mostly a matter of being afraid SE will make it worse somehow.
As it stands DRG is probably the most undesirable job, I love it and wish that I wasn't asked to play something else every time. That's not to say it can't be played, but it doesn't excel in any role as it is. It has plenty of drawbacks built in though.
Long WS recasts, Low acc WSs, relying on crit hits which are to say the least unreliable without blindside.
About it's only redeeming quality is range of attacks but even that isn't all that helpful since most mob centered AoE still forces you to run out of attack range or get hit for absurd(due to low defensive skills) amounts.
Life/Power Surge TP costs to upkeep cost us WSs, not a huge problem if the gain from them was more significant, but as it stands and extra WS can typically out do the extra damage/hit provided by Power Surge Attack Buff. Life Surges only returning HP on AAs leaves it something less than useful for survivability when you really need it.
Dread Spike, I gave up on trying to use it.
I don't care if I have low HP and next to no def, so long as I have something to offset it, damage output comparable to what I'm taking for instance. Life Surge returning HP on WSs as well as AAs at a reasonable %. Dread Spike not failing. Power Surge having a 3 min duration so the TP spent doesn't make the attack power gained not really worthwhile.
I wish they would just drop tiers on Power surge altogether and at the very least extend it's duration. I really don't see why it's got such a hard penalty for usage when the other sustained buffs have such lower penalties they barley even matter. MNK can easily keep MP to fulltime fist of element, WAR has resets, but the effects raise so fast it's a non issue, and the same can be said for raging strike on BRD.
